Evidence 4: Summary “Product distribution: the basics”

The distribution process of the products is one of the fundamental parts in the
logistics of a company, so important decisions must be taken, in order to analyze
which is the best option, depending on the type of product that we are going to
commercialize, so that this one arrives at its final consumer conserving its quality
and in the established times.
There are different factors that must be taken into account when choosing which
means of transport we are going to use and which is the best to keep our product in
optimal conditions and satisfied customers, such as: What special care the product
needs, since they all have a different treatment and packaging, so you must identify
if it is perishable products, delicate cargo, dangerous, expensive goods, etc. And
what are the delivery times, the costs I can assume, the type of client, among others.
To do this it is necessary to know all the means of transport that exist today and
thus make the best decision, we can find the following:
The road, which is generally the best known and used for land transport of goods, for
its flexibility and ease of use and can be more economical.
Maritime, which is used for international transport, this compared to other means of
transport is slower and delayed, so it is not recommended to transport perishable
goods, but in turn is more economical. It is indicated for voluminous and bulk
cargoes.
Air transport, this means compared to sea transport is a little more expensive,
because delivery times are shorter compared to others and certain additional costs
have to be assumed.
And then there is rail, which is also a type of land transport and depends heavily on
other means of transport, so it can also be later, but is also economical.
