AMENDMENT NO. 3 JUNE 2018

TO
IS 15658 : 2006 PRECAST CONCRETE BLOCKS FOR
PAVING — SPECIFICATION
(Page 3, clause 4.2.1.4) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:

‘4.2.1.4 The nominal maximum size of coarse aggregate used in production of

paver blocks shall be 12.5 mm. However, in case of paver blocks of single layer
of 80 mm or above thickness, the nominal maximum size of the coarse
aggregate may be increased up to 20 mm.’

(Page 4, Table 1) — Delete the word 'Recommended' in the title.

[Page 5, Table 2 (see also Amendments No. 1 and 2)] — Delete row (vii).

[Page 6, clause 6.2.6 (see also Amendment No. 1)] — Substitute the
following sentence for the last sentence:

‘The results shall satisfy the limits as agreed to between the purchaser and the
manufacturer subject to the following limits of loss in volume (∆V):

a) Loss in volume for individual sample shall not be more than

20 000 mm3 per 5 000 mm2; and
b) Average loss in volume shall not be more than 18 000 mm3 per
5 000 mm2.

(Page 6, clause 6.2.6) — Insert the following new clauses at the end:

‘6.2.7 Tensile Splitting Strength

The tensile splitting strength (T) of paver blocks shall be determined as per the
method given in Annex F. The requirement shall be as follows:

a) Tensile splitting strength for individual sample shall not be less

than 8 percent of the specified compressive strength of paver block
at 28 days as given in Table 1; and
b) Average tensile splitting strength shall not be less than 8.5 percent
of the specified compressive strength of paver block at 28 days as
given in Table 1.

Amendment No. 3 to IS 15658 : 2006

6.2.8 Flexural Strength/Breaking Load

The flexural strength (Fb)/breaking load of paver block shall be determined as

per the method given in Annex G. However, for evaluating the flexural strength,
the test may be conducted on the longest rectangular slice cut out of the paver
block. The width of the slice so cut shall be minimum 40 mm, if the maximum
size of the coarse aggregate used is 12.5 mm or minimum 60 mm wide, if the
maximum size of the coarse aggregate (in 80 mm or above thick paver blocks) is
20 mm. The requirement shall be as follows:

a) Flexural strength of the individual sample shall not be less than 10

percent of the specified compressive strength of paver block at
28 days as given in Table 1; and
b) Average flexural strength shall not be less than 11 percent of the
specified compressive strength of paver block at 28 days as given
in Table 1.’

(Page 6, clause 6.3.1 and 6.3.2) — Delete.

(Page 6, clause 7.3, line 3) — Substitute ‘Annex B to G’ for ‘Annex B to E’.

(Page 6, clause 7.3, line 6) — Substitute ‘Annex H’ for ‘Annex F to H’.

[Page 7, Table 4, col 3, Sl No. (vi)] — Substitute ‘6.2.7’ for ‘6.3.1’.

[Page 7, Table 4, col 3, Sl No. (vii)] — Substitute ‘6.2.8’ for ‘6.3.2’.

(Page 7, clause 9.1.4) — Substitute the following for the existing clause:

‘9.1.4 The paver blocks selected in accordance with Table 4 shall be subjected
to compressive strength, abrasion resistance, tensile splitting strength and
flexural strength tests and shall meet the requirements given in 6.2.5, 6.2.6,
6.2.7 and 6.2.8, respectively.’

[Page 7, clause 9.2 (see also Amendment No. 1)] — Delete ‘tensile
splitting strength, flexural strength/breaking load,’.

(Page 11, clause B-5) — Delete ‘plan area,’.
