In Service Training
For two days at the start of the school year, English teachers were brought together for an
in-service training. The focus of this training was that administration needed us to align our
content standards and create pacing guides for the year. We had to discuss distance days and
ensure that we were providing content for those days, This in-service training is vital for
content standards, but this year it was important for those teachers to also align as they could.
The English department is capable of this due to us all teaching literature and writing, just in
different degrees of intensity and specific content. Due to Covid-19 and the chance of us going
all virtual, and current virtual students, administration decided that it would be easier if every
English teacher was teaching along the same schedule and lines. If a student wanted to come
back from virtual learning, they could jump back in and not be behind or ahead. This was an
important aspect of the school year that administration had to decide upon.
Administration is also in charge of ensuring that students receive five full days of
instruction. That was a big factor of whether school was going to work or not. To continue this
hybrid model, teachers must provide instruction on the days that students are gone. This in-
service required us to begin the discussion with an administrator present about how we wanted to
