PROBLEM:
Note: The chi-square test is frequently used to determine if two or more populations are
homogenous
Instruction
In an experiment involving two groups of samples, 100 males and 100 females, subjects were
asked to state a preference between frozen orange juice and newly developed type of
preserved juice. Do the preferences of the two groups differ? Use 1% level of significance.
Orange Juice Preference
SOLUTION:
DF = (r – 1) (c – 1)
DF = (2 – 1) (2 – 1)
DF = 1
3. Set your tabular value
The tabular value at 1 DF and 1% significance level is :
2
𝑋𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 = 6.635
𝑿𝟐 = 𝟗. 𝟎𝟖𝟐
6.635 (tabular value) < 9.082 (computed value), Since the chi square test
statistics falls in the rejection region, we, therefore reject the null hypothesis
and conclude that the preferences of the two groups differ at the 1%
significance level.
