ASSIGNMENT-4

Determine the safety of the submarine hull with dual skin arrangement of inner diameter 5m with an outer
shell thickness of 50mm and an inner shell thickness of 50mm operating at a depth of 150m below mean sea
level. Yield strength of material is to be taken as 345 MPa. The height, thickness and spacing of stiffening rings
is 500mm, 25mmm and 1m respectively. The longitudinal bending of the hull shall be estimated using the
empirical formula M=0.05 L2w in which w is the weight of hull /m and L is the length of the hull = 200m.
