Observation
We have found that the frogs in irrigation system are died and also blind which where the
irrigation system has contaminated by hot chemical waste. Then, we also found a vegetable garden
sprayed by pesticides near the irrigation plant.

Problem
Which is the main cause of death and blindness of frogs (whether pesticides or hot chemical
waste) ?

Hypothesis
1. Pesticides kill insect which it is the food of frog (frog died by starvation).
2. Chemical waste contaminate the irrigation water (where frog live) that caused frog’s dead.
3. Pesticides cause the blindness of frog.
4. Chemical waste has killed frog’s prey that live in irrigation (frog died by starvation).
5. Pesticides has contaminate the irrigation water (where frog live) that caused frog’s dead.
6. Chemical waste cause the blindness of frog.

Experiment
Experiment 1
Frog eats insects. included one kind of insects that live in aquatic plants. In this case, the
irrigation system is contaminated by chemical waste, then plants that live in water also can not live.
Thus, the insects that live in the water plants also can not settle there. Then the frog also loses its
food.

Near the irrigation system, there is vegetable garden which also be the source of frog’s food.
Frog’s also losses it’s food because pesticides killed vegetable insect.

This experiment will show us what heppen to the frog if it losses their food in it’s habitat.

Step 1

We placed a frog in a container filled with water, then placed inside a cage with an area of
plant, and a box full of insect in the other corner.

Step 2

After one hour, we check out the frog, and found out that the frog is already in the area of
plant (seeking of food). Then we leave it.

(note : plant area in this cage have humid air around it, so it will be the first destination of frog in
search of food instead of other place )

Step 3

After one hour we check out the frog and found that frog are in the box filled full of insect.

Conclusion/ result of experiment

This experiment show that frog can survive and always move to the place where food are
available, even if the place are not its origin place (habitat).

This experiment ignored hypothesis number 1 and 4.

Explanation : Even if pesticides and chemical waste killed the food frog in it’s habitat, it will
not kill frog immediately in that place. Because frog usually can move wherever the foods are
available (even if not in it’s habitat).

Experiment 2
This experiment aimed to make us know and understand the reaction of frog’s body to the
liquid of chemical waste and pesticides. Then we can detremine what is the true factor that causing
the death and blindness of frog, either chemical waste or vegetable pesticides.
We use chemical waste from chemical industry and liquid pesticides that commonly used to
kill pest in vegetable. The chemical waste temperature is 90◦C while pesticides temperature is 25◦C
& Both chemical waste and pesticides have sting scent.
Step 1 :
We prepare two aquarium then we put up three frog in each aquarium. The first aquarium is
the aquarium that would we fill with pesticides, and the second aquarium with chemical waste.
Step 2 :
We begin to fill each aquarium with 30 ml pesticides and chemical waste.
 First aquarium : the frogs still in good condition, no visible symptoms of decreased
body function.
 Second aquarium : the frogs are immediately jump out of the aquarium.
Step 3 :
We add the substance of liquid pesticides as 30 ml to be 60 ml into first aquarium. (the
second aquarium are already empty since we fill the chemical waste, thus there is no further
observation).
 After 5 minutes :
All of frogs in the aquarium seen to have critical eye infection.
 After 20 minutes :
1 out of 3 frogs is dead, while two others seen blind and experienced reduces body function.
Step 4 :
We add the liquid pesticides as much 30 ml to be 90 ml.
 After 3 minutes :
1 out of 2 frogs that still alive is dead.
 After 5 minutes :
The last frog is dead.
Conclusion/ result of experiment
The experiment reveal the true factor that causes the blindness and dead frog arround the
irrigation. Increased use of pesticides causes a decrease in body function in frogs (especially eyes)
exposed to certain substances causing death on frogs.

This experiment ignored hypothesis number 2 and 6.

Explanation : hot chemical waste stimulate the frog to stay away from this (heat source). If
we implemented in actual circumstances, the frogs actually will not be exposed directly by the
chemical waste because it has the instinct to stay away from this thing (chemical waste).
Conclusion
The leftover hypothesis is our solution of our problem; “Which is the main cause of
death and blindness of frogs (whether pesticides or hot chemical waste) ?” Which is
hypothesis number 3 and 5.
The pesticides are the factor that cause the blindness and the death of frog by it’s
increased substance use.
