MODULE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

On successful completion of the module, you will be able


to:

1) Critically evaluate and apply appropriate innovation


and creativity tools and techniques to solve a technical
problem to achieve a sustainable future.
2) Reflect objectively on your own career aspirations and
potential professional development for the next 10
years to produce a suitable output for dissemination.
MODULE CONTENT:

Innovation and Creativity Concepts and Tools for Engineering


Problem Solving:
Various creativity, techniques will be studied including brainstorming,
modelling, diagramming, multi-criteria analysis, Triz, and stakeholder
analysis. You will also explore how the design process, intellectual
property, research and development and technology transfer can
enhance creativity. You will also consider how legislation appropriate
to your discipline can affect innovation and study appropriate
standards such as (e.g. ISO 9001, 14001, 18001, 26001 and other
related standards such as the WEEE directive). You will also access
environmental life cycle analysis and appropriate future
technologies.
Continuing professional development:
As part of your continuing professional development you
will assess how ethical engineering concepts and your
responsibility of as an individual engineer is part of your
future career as an engineer striving for a sustainable
future for the planet. You will also consider how this
interaction with the responsibilities of governments,
industrial companies and nongovernmental institutions.
You will plot your career path using an appropriate
technique such as trajectory diagram and produce an
enhanced CV for external use.
The course work is made of two parts:

Assignment 1 (80%):
Application of Innovation in Sustainable future.
- 10 minutes ppt presentation (16%)
- Individual technical report of about 2500 (64%)

Assignment 2 (20%):
An individual reflection about 2000 words
Module Marks: Anything from 0 - 99

Example 1:
Student ‘x’: 65% Assignment 1
50% Assignment 2
Total marks = (65 × 0.8) + (50 × 0.2) = 62% (pass)

Example 2:
Student ‘y’: 85% Assignment
10% Assignment 2
Total marks = (85 × 0.8) + (10 × 0.2) = 70% (Fail) why?
