GROUP ASSIGNMENT
(35% of total assessment)

The management of your company has decided to expand the existing company business by building a
new chemical industry / process industry. In a group of 5 to 6 members, you are required to provide a
project proposal for a new chemical plant. You need to prepare a technical report and the content of the
reports should include the following information and each subtopic must be submitted as listed:

1 Perform the process selection by comparing the process and technology for each 10%
of selection. The selection must consist of 3 processes only.

2 Provide the process description on the proposed process including the SDS. 10%

3 Construct the PID by providing a clear and concise illustration of all equipment 10%
and instruments. Please ensure the P&ID is labelled completely and correctly

4 Perform the HAZOP on the proposed process (Limit to 5 study nodes only). 20%

5 Assess the HIRARC on the proposed process (Limit to 5 activities only). 20%

6 Construct the fault tree or event tree diagrams on your proposed event. 15%

7 Improved the PID based on the outcomes of HAZOP. 15%

Submission Information:

1. Submission of softcopy (full report and presentation slide) must not be later than week 11.
2. Late submission will be deducted 10% marks.

Presentation Information:

1. Each group will be given only 30 minutes of presentation which inclusive of 10 minutes of Q&A
session.
2. Each of the team members must do the presentation (individual mark basis).

Assessment Information:

1. Full report (Group mark): 15%

2. Presentation (Individual mark): 10%
3. Peer evaluation (Individual mark): 10%

Plagiarism policy: Any forms of plagiarism are strictly prohibited. If found guilty, you will be
heavily penalized and obtain mark ZERO for the assignment!
