To assist in the transition process for students transitioning from Year 6 to Year 7.
Mathematical activity to assist students with maths transition.
Opportunity to form relationships and identify possible future teachers.

Risk Management Plan

Each student, before participating in this excursion has completed a permission slip. All adults attending the excursion
will be informed of children requiring special attention and how to deal with emergency situations if they arise. In cases
where specific treatment of injury or illness is required staff will follow parent guidelines. Teachers will bring a list of
emergency contacts for each child.

Staff members, Mia Quarrington-Rhodes and Megan Drennan will be permanent at the event and will administer
medication as required and ensure food allergies (if any exist) are managed.

The duty of care of students lies with the teachers. They will complete an attendance check prior, during and at the
completion of the excursion to ensure student numbers and locations are accurate. Students will be signed out at the
front office and signed in upon return.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN


▪ All first aid equipment will be taken to the excursion.
▪ Asthma Action Kit & Plans will be taken
▪ Epipens (Dexter Kanny and Alyssa) will be taken and kept with the First Aid equipment
▪ All staff will have mobile phones, contacts are already in staff members phones
▪ A list with all current parent contact details will be taken.
▪ A staff member will attend to all first aid incidences. This allows the other teacher to remain available for the
other students in case of first aid incidents.
▪ Mr Ben Doyle (mobile number 0403 434 674) will be notified as soon as physically possible of the situation,
along with the child’s parents if a child is taken to hospital.
▪ Education assistant (Jo McGuire) to support students with special needs (Tali Weaver & Mary Nygren)

ACTIVITIES PROCEDURE
▪ At commencement of the day (8.30am) students will come to the classroom and roll will be taken by the
classroom teachers.
▪ The day will be outlined, students briefed on behavior expectations, and safety instructions.
▪ Students will be signed out at the front office before leaving the school.
▪ Students will line up and walk to Nagle via Cathedral Avenue crosswalk.
▪ Upon arrival at Nagle Catholic College we will meet together as a group with the Nagle Supporting Staff.
▪ Nagle staff may choose to go over any information that will assist the students with the day.
▪ Students will be split into three groups, these will be assigned the day before.
▪ Students will break into 3 groups. Each rotation goes for approximately 40mins with 5 minutes extra for change
over between rotations.
o Rotation 1 – Climbing Wall. This will take place in the gym. Students will take turns climbing the rock
climbing wall with appropriate safety gear/equipment provided by Nagle Catholic College. Run by
Mischa Westlake and supporting Nagle PE Staff.
o Rotation 2 – Scavenger Hunt. This will take place in the Study Hall. Students will take part in a
scavenger hunt involving mathematical games and activities, while also incorporating movement
around the school. Run by Emily Sardo and supporting Math Department staff.
o Rotation 3 – Art. This will take place in Room 407. Art activity run by Matthew Grigsby and supporting
Nagle Staff.
▪ At the conclusion of all three rotations, students will sit together under the trees near the basketball courts to eat
morning tea. Muffins will also be provided by Nagle Catholic College.
▪ Prior to Nagle’s morning tea at 11:25, we will walk back to St Francis Xavier PS together, via the Cathedral
Avenue crosswalk.
▪ Supervising teachers will assess all aspects of the venue and the activity to determine risks and possible
hazards prior to the excursion.
▪ In case of emergency, Teachers & Students will follow the directions of the Nagle Catholic College evacuation
plans.
▪ Any limitations and boundaries will be made explicit to the children on arriving at the venue.
▪ Teachers will complete an attendance record at school and at the commencement of the activity. A copy of
attendance will be kept with the classroom teacher.
▪ Supervising adults will have view of the students at all times and constant evaluations will be made regarding
the conditions during the activity and appropriate action will be taken if deemed necessary.
▪ If in the event of a crisis the school’s crisis management plan will be enacted. (Ben Doyle will be contacted

Students will walk to and from Nagle Catholic College via the Cathedral Avenue crosswalk.

Assess the student’s capacity


Students are all capable to attend the excursion. Students unable to complete the Rock Climbing rotation will observe
their peers and follow the instructions given by Nagle PE Staff..

Assess the capabilities of the Supervisory Team


Collectively the supervisory team has the skills to:
• Identify and establish a safe activity environment
• Effect a rescue and/or render emergency
• Monitor weather and environmental conditions before and during activities
o Students will wear appropriate sun protection when outdoors, they will need to sit under trees to
eat their morning tea.
• Monitor the physical well-being of the students
o Regular water breaks will be encouraged.

▪ 57 students will attend Nagle Catholic College. At least 4 staff will be supervising from St Francis Xavier, as well
as a minimum of 2 Nagle teacher per 20 students.

▪ Students will wear school hats when outdoors.
▪ Head counts will occur upon leaving the school, at the commencement of each rotation, and upon leaving Nagle
Catholic College.
