INTRODUCTION
TO THE BASIC CONCEPTS
OF KABBALAH

The book of Genesis in the Bible mentions about the Tree of Life: "...
The tree oflife also in the midst of the garden" (Genesis 2:9). According to
kabbalistic lore, the High Priest Melchizedek taught Abraham the Kabbalah
and the Tree of Life. But who the High Priest Melchizedek was is difficult
to say. There is an Order of Melchizedek' in ancient times, and even up to
now. So it is quite likely that there is not just one High Priest Melchizedek,
but several or many High Priests Melchizedek, and that the name "High
Priest Melchizedek" is a title. Moses also taught the Kabbalah and the Tree
of Life to his more spiritually evolved priests. The origin of the Tree of
Life is very ancient. How old it is, or where it comes from, is difficult to
say because many of the inner teachings were taught orally and, to more
advanced disciples, were telepathically transmitted.
The Tree of Life is very complex and abstruse. It can be studied from
many levels and many aspects. It can be studied from the human level,
the planetary level, the solar and galactic levels, and from the universal
level. In this book, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life will be studied from the
human level only. By studying and knowing one's self, it is possible to
have a glimpse of the macrocosm. According to the ancient teaching and
principle, "As above, so below," man is the microcosm and a "reflection"
of the macrocosm.
Central to the teaching of Kabbalah is the Tree of Life. The Tree of
Life is divided into Three Pillars. As shown in Fig. 2, the central pillar is

**The author has retained the traditional Kabbalistic presentation where Netzach
is on the Pillar of Mercy, and Hod is on the Pillar of Severity. In the author's opinion,
however, Netzach, which means "victory and power," shou ld be on the Pillar of Severity
while Hod, which means "glory or splendor," should be on the Pillar of Mercy.

the Neutral Pillar, the left pillar is the Pillar of Mercy, and the right pillar
is the Pillar of Severity. Does the left pillar really symbolize the left side
of the body? Does the right pillar really symbolize the right side of the
body or vice versa? According to traditional Kabbalah, the "Tree of Life"
is supposedly a mirror image of the physical body: the Pillar of Mercy
supposedly corresponds to the right side of the body, the Pillar of Severity
to the left side and the Neutral Pillar to the center of the body. However,
esoteric teachings maintain that the Pillar of Mercy is actually on the left
side of the body while the Pillar of Severity is on the right side. What is
the truth?
The reason for these differences is that most kabbalists in ancient
times were not aware of the relationship of the body to the brain. They did
not know that the right brain controls the left side of the body, and the left
brain controls the right side of the body. Since Chokmah corresponds to
the right side of the head or the right brain, obviously it must control the
left eye, the left ear and the left side of the body. That is why the left side
of the body corresponds to the Pillar of Mercy. Binah, which corresponds
to the left side of the head or the left brain, controls the right side of the
body. That is why the right side of the body actually corresponds to the
Pillar of Severity.

The Kabbalistic Tree of Life

and its Correspondence to the Physical Body

Kether corresponds to the crown.

Chokmah corresponds to the right brain, known as the intuitive
brain. The right brain controls the left eye and the left ear. Therefore,
Chokmah corresponds also to the left eye and the left ear.

Binah corresponds to the left brain, which controls the rational

brain. Since the left brain controls the right eye and the right ear, Binah,
therefore, corresponds also to the right eye and the right ear.
Daath corresponds to the throat.
Chesed corresponds to the left shoulder and the left arm, while
Gevurah corresponds to the right shoulder and the right arm.
Tiphareth corresponds to the navel, not to the physical heart. If
you look at Fig. 3 carefully, all the energies from the different sephiroth
converge on Tiphareth. The yogi, after meditation, would gather all excess
energy, generated by the spiritual practice, to the navel to produce the
golden ball of energy.
Netzach corresponds to the left hip and left leg, while Hod
corresponds to the right hip and right leg.

Yesod corresponds to the pubic area, the generative organs, while

Malkuth corresponds to the soles of the feet.
The left side of the body corresponds to the Pillar of Mercy since it
is controlled by the right brain, which corresponds to Chokmah. The right
side of the body corresponds to the Pillar of Severity since it is controlled
by the left brain, which corresponds to Binah. The central part of the body
is the Neutral Pillar. This is repeated for emphasis.

The Chakras and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life

The sephiroth are energy centers or chakras. There are 10 sephiroth

and one hidden sephirah, which makes a total of 11 sephiroth or chakras.
Where are the 11 chakras located? Traditionally, only 7 chakras were
revealed to yogis and spiritual practitioners. The existence of the other four
chakras was known only to a very few advanced kabbalists and spiritual
gurus. In Pranic Healing, at least 11 major chakras have been revealed.
These correspond to the 10 sephiroth, plus one hidden sephirah, making
a total of 11.
For thousands of years, only the physical correspondence of the
sephiroth has been revealed to the rabbis and esoteric scholars, not the
corresponding energy centers. The actual correspondence of the chakras
in relation to the sephiroth has been a tightly guarded secret. In this book,
the secret is hereby revealed.
Kether corresponds to the crown chakra which is located on
the crown. Chokmah corresponds to the forehead chakra, the center of
intuition or wisdom. Binah corresponds to the ajna chakra which controls
the higher abstract mental faculty for understanding of concepts and
principles. Daath corresponds to the throat chakra which controls the
concrete mental faculty, which is needed for acquiring knowledge. Chesed

corresponds to the heart chakra, the center ofloving-kindness, mercy and

compassion. Gevurah corresponds to the solar plexus chakra, the center of
righteous indignation or justice, courage and strength. It also negatively
corresponds to anger, hatred and criticalness.
Why do Chesed and Gevurah correspond to the shoulders and
the arms? The answer is quite interesting: To show kindness, mercy or
anger very often requires the use of the arms. That is why the physical
correspondence of Chesed is the left shoulder and the left arm, while
that of Gevurah is the right shoulder and the right arm. The reader must
remember that most people are right-handed, and acts of violence are
normally done through the right arm, not through the left arm. Tiphareth
corresponds to the navel chakra. Netzach corresponds to the spleen
chakra. Hod corresponds to the meng mein chakra. Why do Netzach and

11
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Hod physically correspond to the left hip, left leg, and right hip, right leg?
Netzach and Hod "energetically support" the etheric body and the physical
body, while the left hip, left leg, right hip and right leg "physically support"
the upper part of the body. Yesod corresponds to the sex chakra which
controls and energizes the generative organs. Malkuth corresponds to the
basic chakra. The feet and the sole minor chakras are extensions of the
basic chakra. That is why the feet correspond physically to Malkuth.
In general, modern people are so busy that they do not have the
time to plow through thick books. This book is written in a clear, simple
and concise manner. It has been deliberately written in a compressed form,
while retaining the essence of the teachings, so it can be read in just two
or three sessions.
Good luck! Enjoy your reading.

Fig. 8 Crown Chakra Fig. 9 Kether and the Tree of Life

Kether - Crown Chakra: Center of Oneness

Kether in Kabbalah means "crown". It corresponds to the crown

chakra and is located at the top of the head. The crown chakra has two
sets of petals: the 12 inner petals contain predominantly golden prana,
and the 960 outer petals contain light violet, blue, yellow, green, orange,
and red pranas.

IS
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

Kether is the center of spiritual consciousness and divine oneness.

It is also called the "center of higher buddhic or Christ consciousness." In
psychology, it is called "cosmic consciousness." Through Kether - crown
chakra, a person experiences the expanding of consciousness, illumination
and divine oneness. It is through this chakra that one feels loving-kindness
for all. Kether is also the center of universal love, which manifests as the
will to love or the will to do good.
Kether is also the center of illumination or self-realization. This
is the meaning of yoga: it is union. Union with what? Union with one's
higher soul; eventually, and inevitably, it is oneness with all. It is through
Kether that one experiences the Buddha nature within and oneness with
the higher soul.

Physiological Functions

The crown chakra controls and energizes the pineal gland, the
brain, and the entire body. Malfunctioning of this chakra may manifest as
diseases of the pineal gland and the brain, which may manifest as physical
or psychological illnesses. Modern scientific research shows that the pineal
gland is connected with aging and anti-aging processes.

Intuitive Intelligence and Mental Intelligence

The crown chakra - Kether is the center of higher intuition or the

higher buddhic faculty. This faculty, when fully developed, manifests as
"direct knowing" or "direct inner perception". It is knowing without having
to study. What is learned through the buddhic faculty in few minutes will
require weeks, if not months, to put into words. A person with only a

16
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

developed mental faculty will have to unravel or plow through a problem;

whereas, a person with even only a partially developed buddhic faculty has
a quick overall grasp of the problem and its possible solutions.
Unfortunately, our present educational system does not encourage
the development of the intuition, on the grounds that the solution or
conclusion is not rationally arrived at. Direct perception or intuition is
not logical or rational. The truth is that the intuitive faculty is beyond
logic; it transcends logic and the rational mind. In Buddhism, direct inner
perception or intuition is called Budhichitta.
Kether is the intuitive center. What is intuition? What is the difference
between intuitive intelligence and mental intelligence? The difference is
similar to a man who can see and a man who is blind. If a blind man wants
to know an elephant, he has to touch it for quite some time, gather data
and process them to have an idea of the shape of the elephant. A person
who has eyes to see will simply open his eyes and will know exactly what an
elephant looks like and will say, "That is an elephant". Intuitive intelligence
is just like opening your eyes and saying, "I know what that is". Mental
intelligence requires the study and the use of logic through inductive and
deductive reasoning.
Many scientific discoveries are made through intuitive intelligence.
Ideas simply flash in the minds of some scientists. Many good businessmen
have intuitive intelligence. They "look" at certain transactions and they
go straight to the point in executing plans. The prolonged practice of the
Meditation on Twin Hearts helps a person in his ability "to see" and "to
penetrate" very quickly. People with intuitive intelligence will become very
superior. (For more information on the "Meditation on Twin Hears," read
Achieving Oneness with the Higher Soul by the author.)

17
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

Fig. 10 Man- the Inverted Tree of Life

The spiritual root is the spiritual cord of light on top of the head

18
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

Man: Th e Inverted Tree of Life

In the Kabbalistic tradition, man is spiritually an inverted tree.

What is the meaning of this? Kether is the entry point of the divine
energy. It is through Kether that one is spiritually rooted upward to
the higher soul and ultimately to God. This spiritual root or spiritual
cord is called sutra atma in Sanskrit. It comes from two words: sutra

"Kether is the entry point of the divine

energy. It is through Kether that one is
spiritually rooted upward to the higher
soul and ultimately to God."

which means "thread," and atma which means the "self" or the "soul".
In ordinary people the spiritual root is as thin as a hair strand. As
a person practices and masters the virtues or develops strong inner
character, the spiritual root becomes thicker. By meditating or praying
regularly the spiritual root becomes bigger. Man is truly a spiritual
inverted tree, with the higher soul and the divine spark as the source
of the spiritual root.
When a person has a strong spiritual connection with his higher soul,
the person is whole or has integrity. This manifests as wholesomeness.
To be more accurate and correct, it is not a matter of whether a person is
connected with the higher soul or not, but the degree of connection. Some
people are internally weak, and have very thin spiritual cords. The spiritual
root of people who are more spiritually developed can be seen as a pillar
of light. Just as the physical root absorbs physical nutrients, the spiritual

19
The Spiritual Essence of Man

root draws in spiritual nutrient. In Christian terminology, the drawing in

of spiritual nutrient is called the "descent of the Holy Spirit" or "spiritual
energy". In Chinese, spiritual energy is called Tian chi. Tian, in its deeper
meaning, means "God". Chi means "energy." Tian chi, therefore, means
"God's energy" or "divine energy." It has been mistranslated as "cosmic
energy."
According to the author, in one of his books, Achieving Oneness with
the Higher Soul (Formerly known as Meditations for Soul Realization):
From the divine spark or monad, an energy cord
extends "downward." It is brilliant "white" light and
is called the divine cord. The divine cord goes down
to the higher soul. From the higher soul, it goes down
to the incarnated soul.
The divine cord, as it passes through the higher soul
going "down" to the incarnated soul, is differentiated
into three silver cords: The silver cord oflife, the silver
cord of emotion, and the silver cord of consciousness.
These three silver cords are encapsulated in the divine
cord ... the combination of the divine cord with the
three silver cords is called the spiritual cord [root] or
the spiritual antenna.

Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

Lord Krishna and The Inverted Tree of Life.

Lord Krishna gave a spiritual discourse to Arjuna before the Great

War in chapter 15 of the Bhagavad-Gita (as translated by Barbara Stoler
Miller). Under the section "The True Spirit of Man;' Lord Krishna says
to Arjuna:
Roots in the air, branches below,
the tree of life is unchanging ...
Its form is unknown
here in the world
Unknown are its end,
its beginning, its extent ...
Then search to find
the realm
that one enters
Without returning:
I seek refuge
in the original spirit of man,
from which primordial
activity extended.

Lord Krishna taught Arjuna that man -the soul is the Inverted Tree
of Life with roots in the air. "Roots in the air;' as stated earlier, is the sutra
atma or the spiritual root. "Without returning I seek refuge in the original
spirit of man;' refers to achieving union or yoga with the divine spark or
Paramatma. This is one of the most profound teachings of Lord Krishna
which has been a puzzle to most swamis and readers for thousands of
years.

21
The Spiritual Essence of Man

The Upanishads and the Tree of Eternity

The Tree of Life as mentioned by the Great Avatar Krishna in the

Bhagavad-Gita is called the Tree of Eternity in The Upanishads, in a
translation by Eknath Easwaran:

The Tree of Eternity has its roots above

And its branches on earth below.
Its pure root is Brahman [Supreme God] the immortal
From whom all the worlds draw their life, and whom
None can transcend. For this Self [I AM] is supreme!

The cosmos comes forth from Brahman and moves

In Him. With his power it reverberates,
Like thunder crashing in the sky. Those who realize [H ] im
Pass beyond the sway of death ....

If one fails to realize Brahman in this life

Before the physical sheath [body] is shed,
He must again put on a body
In the world of embodied creatures.

The Blue Pearl

The crown chakra is rooted in the pineal gland. Inside the pineal
gland is the "seed of consciousness" which looks like a blue pearl. It is
smaller than a very tiny grain and is bright bluish violet, surrounded by
gold and rainbow colors. Sometimes it looks like a blue spot or a small
indigo blue sphere. This is why in India, yogis call this seed of consciousness
the "blue pearl."

22
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

Fig. 11 The Blue Pearl

23
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Fig. 12 The eye of the peacock feather symbolizes the blue pearl.

24
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

The blue pearl is connected to the higher soul, but it is not the higher
soul. The blue pearl is like a computer terminal, while the higher soul is like the
mainframe computer. Just as the terminal gives you access to the mainframe
computer, by meditating on the blue pearl one can come in contact with the
higher soul and have access to the inner worlds or inner universes. One can
also come in contact with great beings and teachers from whom one can
receive priceless teachings and blessings.

Lord Krishna and the Blue Pearl

Lord Krishna is usually pictured with a peacock feather on his head. In

Sufism, Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and other traditions, the peacock feather
is considered a sacred symbol. What is its meaning and significance?
If you examine the peacock feather carefully, you'll notice that it has
a bluish dot surrounded by golden, green and other colors. The "eye" of the
peacock feather symbolizes the blue pearl, which is surrounded by a golden
aura and rainbow light. By meditating on the blue pearl, one can achieve soul
realization, illumination and oneness with one's higher soul. This is why the
peacock feather is considered sacred.
Lord Krishna has a peacock feather on his head so as to tell his devotees
that to achieve illumination and divine oneness, one must direct one's attention
to the crown chakra or pineal gland where the blue pearl is located.
The higher soul may appear as a blue person. The spiritual guru may
also appear as a blue person, sometimes as a blinding light. This is why in
the Indian tradition, the Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord
Krishna are shown with a blue-color skin. This does not literally mean that
they have blue skin. Blue or bluish violet is the symbol of spirituality. In the
Egyptian mystery schools, some deities are also shown in blue.

25
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Fig. 13 The Great Avatar Krishna with the Peacock Feather

There are many pictures ofKrishna that show him with a peacock feather and
a cobra. The peacock feather symbolizes the blue pearl. The cobra symbolizes the
kundalini energy. By meditating on the blue pearl, the kundalini energy is awakened,
eventually manifesting as samadhi. There will be a corresponding downpour of
divine energy going to the base of the spine where the kundalini energy is located.
It is this divine energy that regulates and awakens the kundalini energy and brings
it up to the brain and crown chakra. When this is done over and over again for a
certain period of time, the yogi will experience illumination.

In Sufism, the peacock is considered a sacred symbol. The eye

of the peacock feather corresponds to the blue pearl. The blue peral is
called the "essence" in Sufism.

28

Fig. 16 King Ludwing II and the Blue Pearl

King Ludwig II (1845-1886), who was a Catholic Bavarian

monarch, was fully aware of the existence of the blue pearl. In his
palace at Herrenchiemsee is a huge bronze statue of a peacock, and in
his bedroom is a large cobalt blue glass ball which, when lighted, looks
like the blue pearl. King Ludwig II was too advanced for his time.

29
The Spiritual Essence of Man

The Holy of Holies and the Blue Pearl

The Ark of the Covenant was put in the Holy of Holies in the
Temple of Solomon. According to 1 Kings 8:6 (Lamsa's Translation). "And
the priest brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord to its place,
into the temple, to the inner house, the Holy of Holies, under the wings
of the cherubim." Through the Ark of the Covenant, Moses communed
with God and received instructions from Him. Exodus 25:1, 22 (Lamsa's
Translation ) tells us "And the Lord spoke to Moses saying ... 'And there
I will meet you, and I will commune with you from above the mercy
seat, from between the two cherubim which are upon the ark of the
testimony, of all the things which I will command you concerning the
children of Israel."' The Ark of the Covenant is also known as the Ark
of the Testimony (Exodus 30:6).
The Holy of Holies is a small room containing the Ark of the
Covenant. A room built by the hands of man cannot possibly be the
Holy of Holies. In a spiritual sense, the Holy of Holies is the Spirit of
God within the Ark of the Covenant, for nothing could be holier than the
Spirit of God. The Ark of Covenant with the Spirit of God, in relation
to the physical body, corresponds to the pineal gland and the blue pearl.
By meditating on the blue pearl, which is inside the pineal gland, one
can eventually receive guidance from one's higher soul. Probably, very
few of the advanced kabbalists and rabbis still know of this secret.

Taoist Yoga and the Blue Pearl

In Taoist Yoga, one of the esoteric practices is to meditate on the

pineal gland and the blue pearl.

The Lord Jesus said in Luke 17:21, "Neither shall they say, Lo here!
Or, lo there! For, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." In modern
English, it means that heaven is not here, there or anywhere, but within
you. There are several interpretations: First, heaven is actually a state of
consciousness. Second, the blue pearl, which is physically within you, is
the gateway to heaven. In the Indian tradition, a less well-known name
for the crown chakra is Brahmarantara, which literally means "gateway
to God." By meditating on Kether - crown chakra or the blue pearl,
one can experience "heaven" while still having a physical body. This is
the meaning of yoga.

Locating the Blue Pearl

The blue pearl is lodged in the crown chakra and in the pineal
gland. How do you locate the seed of consciousness? Touch the tip
of your right ear and the tip of your left ear. Imagine a straight line
connecting them. Touch the area between your eyebrows and also the
back of your head. Imagine another straight line connecting them.
The two lines now form a cross. The intersecting point is roughly the
location of the blue pearl. The pineal gland lies behind the area between
your eyebrows. The pineal gland and the blue pearl are located almost
at the center of the head.

31
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Kether

The Sanskrit term for Kether is Sahasrara chakra. The blue pearl
is called Manon Mani which literally means "mental jewel." In esoteric
terminology, Manon Mani is called the mental permanent seed or the
seed of consciousness. In Tamil (Southern India), it is called Poottellu
varmam. In Taoist yoga, it is known as bai hui, which literally means
"meeting point for the hundreds." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds
to the acupuncture point DU (GV) 20. Bai hui is the entry point of
Tian [God] chi. The downpouring of the spiritual energy or Tian chi
is called, in Christian terminology, the "descent of the Holy Spirit".
Therefore, Kether - crown chakra is a very important spiritual center.
A certain degree of physical and psychological preparations is needed
to activate Kether. To tread the spiritual path without inner and outer
purifications will adversely affect the physical body and will eventually
result also in psychological imbalance. This is the meaning of the verse
in Matthew 9:17, "Do not put new wine in an old wine bag."

Kether and Divine Healing

Kether - crown chakra is the entry point of divine energy and

can be used for self-healing or for healing other people. To heal other
people, the healer has to concentrate on Kether and on his hands
simultaneously, and direct divine energy to the affected part( s) of the
subject. In Advanced Pranic Healing and Pranic Psychotherapy, this
divine healing technique is called crown-hand chakras technique. In
the Christian tradition this is called "laying on of hands." Some healers
may mimic the external act without doing the inner practice. This will

32
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

Fig. 17 Divine Healing

33
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

not do. It is important to concentrate on Kether - crown chakra, and

to humbly invoke for God's blessings and spiritual energy.
The healer, instead of energizing the affected part directly, may put his
hand on the crown of the subject. Energizing the Kether or crown chakra
has the effect of energizing the whole body. It is similar to pouring water
on a funnel, causing the whole body to be flooded with healing energy.

The First Commandment

Kether corresponds to "Our Father," the first phrase in the Lord's

Prayer. The inner meaning of the correspondence is that one should
not identify oneself with the physical body or even with the desires. It is
important to remember who you are, where you come from, that you are
a child of God and of the Most High (Psalms 82:6). To identify oneself
with the physical body and with the desires is to worship false gods. To be
enslaved by the body and the desires is symbolized by the enslavement of
the Israelites in" Egypt." It is when one identifies oneself with the Soul, a
spiritual being connected with the higher soul, that one is liberated from
"enslavement." It is when you start to identify yourself with your true
nature- the Buddha nature, the Christ in you, the Atma in you-that you
gradually achieve liberation or freedom from enslavement.
Kether also corresponds to the first commandment (Exodus 20:3,
Lamsa's Translation), "You shall have no other gods except me." Although
there are archangels and other great beings, it is important to remember
that we are children of God, that we come from Him and that we should
worship God, the Supreme Being.

34
Lord Krishna and the Inverted Tree of Life

The Divine Name of Kether

The divine name of Kether is Ehieh, which means "I AM That I AM."
In the Indian tradition this is called So Ham or Hong So.

The Third Eye

Fig. 20 Forehead Chakra Fig. 21 Chokmah and the Tree of Life

Chokrnah - Forehead Cha.kra

Chokmah in Kabbalah means "wisdom." It corresponds to the

forehead chakra and is located at the center of the forehead. The forehead
chakra has 144 petals with 12 divisions. Each division has 12 petals and
contains light violet, blue, red, orange, yellow, and green pranas.

39
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The Chokmah - forehead chakra is the center of lower buddhic or

cosmic consciousness. It is the center of wisdom or lower intuition. The
activation of the forehead gives one access to the spiritual world.

Physiological Functions

The forehead chakra controls and energizes the pineal gland and
the nervous system. Malfunctioning of the forehead chakra manifests
as ailments of the nervous system. Energizing this chakra has a similar
funneling effect like the crown chakra, causing the whole body to be
flooded with prana.

Higher Intuition and Lower Intuition

What is the difference between the higher intuition ofKether and the
lower intuition of Chokmah? Both of them correspond to the faculty of
direct inner perception or intuition. In the case ofKether- crown chakra, it
is direct inner perception without form. It is pure knowing. Direct knowing
without inner visions or sounds is higher intuition. On the other hand,
Chokmah - forehead chakra is direct inner perception with form. Direct
knowing with clairvoyancy is lower intuition. Chokmah is the center of
higher clairvoyancy. It gives a person the ability to see truth using the third
eye or the spiritual eye. The real third eye is on the forehead chakra, not
on the ajna chakra. Lower clairvoyancy uses the lower chakras.
In esoteric Buddhism where the teachings are orally taught or
telepathically transmitted, the forehead chakra is called the "lower
Budhichitta;' while the crown chakra is the "higher Budhichitta;' or simply
Budhichi tta.

40
The Third Eye

Chokmah and The Third Eye

Chokmah is the center of wisdom or the lower intuitive center.

Wisdom is knowing through "direct inner perception" accompanied by
inner vision. Chokmah or the forehead chakra is the third eye. With the
use of Chokmah or the third eye, one can see the true nature of things or

"With the use of Chokmah or the third

eye, one... can understand the nature of an
object just by direct inner seeing, without
having to study, without having to use logic
and reason."

events. One can understand the nature of an object just by direct inner
seeing, without having to study, without having to use logic and reason.
One just simply sees with the "inner eye" and knows. King Solomon asked
for wisdom ( 1 Kings 3:11, Lamsa's Translation). He was given the power to
discern the quality of the heart of a person without having to use logic or
reason. All he had to do was to see with his third eye, which was located
on his forehead, and he would know whether a person was guilty or not.

The Third Eye and the Chinese Esoteric Tradition

Ancient Chinese character is pictographic in nature. The ancient

Chinese character for "to see" or "to look" is [~] an eye with two legs. As
time passed by, the Chinese character became more angular and stylistic.
The Chinese character for "to see" or "to look" became like this [ Ill. The
upper part of the character symbolizes the eye, and the lower part the legs.

41
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Fig. 22 The White Tara with the Third Eye

The third eye is located on the forehead chakra

42
The Third Eye

This character is very strange because when you examine it closely you
will notice that the eye, instead of being horizontal, is vertical. Obviously,
the ancient Chinese sage was hinting on the third eye. If one wants to
have a deeper comprehension, it is important to investigate not only
with the physical eyes, but also with the third eye. In many Chinese and
oriental artworks, you will notice that the third eye is actually located on
the forehead, and not between the eyebrows. In many so-called New Age
literature, the third eye is supposedly located between the eyebrows. This
is incorrect. This is a "blind" that has been put up by the earlier gurus to
prevent immature seekers from knowing the reallocation of the third eye.
The condition has changed. The truth is hereby revealed.

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Chokmah

In Taoist yoga, Chokmah - forehead chakra corresponds to shen ting,

which means "hall of the divine." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to
the acupuncture point DU (GV) 24.
The forehead chakra in the Indian oral tradition is called the Lalaata
chakra. In Tamil (Southern India), it is called Kumbidu kaala varmam.

The Second Commandment

Chokmah corresponds to the second commandment (Exodus 20:4,

Oxford Bible), "You shall not make for yourself an idol." This commandment
should not be taken literally or to the extreme. This does not mean that you
are not allowed to have pictures and statues of saints, prophets, avatars,
Buddhas, spiritual teachers, deities, and others. Having a picture or statue
of the Messiah, Avatar or Buddha is all right, but one must remember that

43
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

the great spiritual teacher is actually the great Soul that occupies the body,
and he is not the body as represented by the picture or statue. It is with
the use of the third eye or Chokmah that the disciple is able to see beyond
the physical form and see the spiritual nature of the Guru.

The Divine Name of Chokmah

Chokmah also corresponds to the phrase in the Lord's Prayer, "Who

Art In Heaven." Its corresponding divine name is Yehovah.

Active Intelligence

Fig. 25 Ajna Chakra Fig. 26 Binah and the Tree of Life

Binah - Ajna Chakra

Binah in Kabbalah means "understanding." It corresponds to the

ajna chakra, and is located at the area between the eyebrows. The ajna
chakra has 96 petals, and has two divisions, each having 48 petals. In some
persons, one division is predominantly light yellow, and the other division
is predominantly light violet. Others have whitish green in one division
and light violet in the other. The predominating color pranas in the ajna
differ from person to person, and the colors change according to person's
psychological state.

47
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The ajna chakra - Binah is the center of the higher mental faculty or
the abstract mind. It is also the "directing" center or the "will" center.

Physiological Functions

The ajna chakra controls and energizes the pituitary gland, the
endocrine glands, and energizes the brain to certain extent. It is called the
"master chakra" because it directs and controls the other major chakras
and their corresponding endocrine glands and vital organs. It also affects
the eyes and the nose. The malfunctioning of this chakra manifests as
diseases related to the endocrine glands. Energizing the ajna chakra causes
the whole body to be energized also but the mechanism is different from
that of the crown and the forehead chakras. Instead of the usual funneling
effect, energizing the ajna chakra causes the other chakras to light up in
a certain rapid sequence, thereby energizing the whole body. That is why
in divine healing, the healers touch with their fingers or palms either the
crown or the forehead or the ajna chakra of the patients. The sudden
intense rushing in of prana into the head area causes some patients to
lose consciousness.

Active Intelligence

The ajna chakra - Binah is the center of the higher mental faculty,
which is responsible for understanding abstract concepts and principles.
This is why Binah is called "understanding." It is the center of the intelligent
will, and has a directive function. The combination of understanding and
directing others manifest as active intelligence. Active intelligence is very
different from sterile intelligence. You may encounter people who seem

48
Active Intelligence

to be intelligent and you may be impressed when they talk, but they are
not productive. They do not produce results. This is an example of sterile
intelligence. The proper function of the ajna chakra - Binah manifests
as intelligence in motion or dynamic intelligence. Some executives have
sufficiently developed ajna chakras. Executives in Europe are called
"directors" because they direct activities of people under them. In the
United States they are called "executives" or "managers" because they use
their intelligence to manage resources and people. Their function is to
manifest active intelligence. Their job is to make others produce results.

"The ajna chakra - Binah ... is responsible

for UNDERSTANDING abstract concepts
and principles . ... The proper function of
Binah- ajna chakra manifests as intelligence
in motion or dynamic intelligence."

Types of Will

The ajna chakra - Binah is the center for active directing will, which
is based on intelligence. It is intelligent will - the higher type of will.
The solar plexus chakra - Gevurah is the center of emotional drive or
the emotional will - the lower type of "will." The strength of the masses
comes predominantly from the solar plexus, while that of a refined, highly
developed person comes predominantly from the ajna chakra - Binah,
directing the solar plexus chakra. The ajna chakra - Binah and the solar

49
The Spiritual Essence of Man

plexus chakra - Gevurah are closely interconnected. They affect each

other.
A lot of people have unregulated chaotic emotions. To overcome this
problem, the ajna chakra - Binah must be activated. This will enable the
person to regulate his thoughts and emotions. It is advisable for a pranic
psychotherapist to activate the ajna chakra - Binah of a psychologically
imbalanced person to facilitate a greater degree of self-control.
According to many books on Kabbalah, the crown chakra - Kether
is supposed to be the will center. This seems to be in conflict with what
the author has just stated. Kabbalah is an abstruse subject. Binah or
understanding is the center of intelligent will, while the solar plexus is
the center of emotional will. What then is Kether? Kether is the center of
universal love, manifesting as the will to love, the will to manifest goodness,
and the will to do good. Kether is the center of the right divine motive.
When Kether has been substantially activated, it will unceasingly drive the
spiritual disciple to serve others, to become a servant, a divine servant, a
servant of God.

More About Chokmah and Binah

Chokmah is knowing through direct inner perception. This wisdom or

knowingness must be translated or stepped down into concepts, principles,
and words. This manifests as Binah or understanding. Knowing something
through Chokmah requires only seconds or minutes. But translating
intuition into understanding, manifesting as concepts, principles, and
words may take weeks, months, or years. The difficult task is translating

so
Active Intelligence

these overwhelming visions or inner impressions into words that can be

understood by the common people, or at least by the intelligentsia.
Chokmah corresponds to the forehead chakra. Physiologically, it
corresponds to the pineal gland, the right brain, which is the intuitive
brain, and the left eye and ear. Binah corresponds to the ajna chakra.
Physiologically, it corresponds to the pituitary gland, the left brain, which
is the rational brain, and the right eye and ear. The right brain controls the
left eye and ear, and the left parts of the body. That is why the left side of
the Tree of Life is the Pillar of Mercy. Binah, which corresponds to the left
brain, controls the right eye and ear, and the right parts of the body. That
is why the right side of the Tree of Life is the Pillar of Severity.

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Binah

In Taoist yoga, Binah corresponds to yin tang, which means "hall

of impressions." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to the acupuncture
point EX-HN 3.
Binah corresponds to the ajna chakra, which is a Sanskrit term. In
Tamil (Southern India), its correspondence is Thilardha varmam.

The Papal Cross and its Inner Meanings

The triple cross symbolizes the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. It is also

known as the Kabbalistic Cross. The Catholic Church calls it the Papal
Cross. If you look at the Papal cross, you'll notice that it has three horizontal
bars, instead of one horizontal bar.

51
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The Meanings of the Kabbalistic Cross are the following:

1. The top part of the cross symbolizes Kether - crown chakra.
2. The left end of the first horizontal bar corresponds to Chokmah-
forehead chakra.
3. The right end of the first horizontal bar corresponds to Binah-

Some of the early Christian Popes and Fathers were knowledgeable

on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The three horizontal bars correspond to
the three pairs of complementary opposites.
The triple cross is also used by the Christian Orthodox Church and
also by the Freemasons. The Freemasons call the cross with three horizontal
bars as the "Grand Cross;' while the one with two horizontal bars is known
as the "Patriarchal Cross."

The Papal Cross and the Patriarchal Cross

The Patriarchal Cross has only two horizontal bars. This means that
the kabbalist or spiritual practitioner has not been able to go beyond Daath
or the lower mental world.

63
The Spiritual Essence of Man

First Pair of Complementary Opposites: Intellect and Intuition

The ajna chakra- Binah corresponds to the intellect, while the

forehead chakra- Chokmah corresponds to intuition. The intellect and
intuition are the first complementary pair of opposites. The intelligentsia
uses predominantly the intellect and sometimes they don't even recognize
the existence of the intuition. They consider it as not rational, and not
objective. Geniuses use intuition and are far superior to the intelligentsia
and the masses. A genius uses intuition to know the truths and extracts
secrets from Mother Nature; he uses the intellect to validate or check what
has been learned intuitively. A genius is one who uses both intuition and
intellect in a coordinated, effective and objective manner. It is the purpose
of the human race to eventually develop the intuition.

The Bible and the Kabbalistic Tree of Life

According to Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan, in his book Sefer Yetzirah, The

Book of Creation, the names of the sephiroth are derived from the Bible.
In Exodus 31:1-3, God said to Moses, "See, I have called by name
Bezaliel ... And I have filled him with the [S]pirit of God, with wisdom,
with understanding, with knowledge .. ." The Spirit of God in modern
terminology is called Divine Energy. The entry point of the Divine Energy
is Kether. That is why the Spirit of God corresponds to Kether. Remember
that man is spiritually an inverted tree.
Wisdom corresponds to Chokmah, and understanding corresponds
to Binah. Knowledge corresponds to Daath, which is the hidden sephirah
of the Tree of Life. Daath corresponds to the throat chakra.

The Spiritual Essence of Man

Proverbs 24: 3-4 states, "With Wisdom [Chokmah] a house is built,

with Understanding [Binah] it is established, and with Knowledge [Daath]
its rooms are filled."
Another verse, 1 Chronicles 29:11, states, "Yours 0 God are the
Greatness ..." This corresponds to Gedulah, which is another name for
Chesed; "the Strength" corresponds to Gevurah, "the Beauty" to Tiphareth,
"the Victory" to Netzach, "the Splendor" to Hod, "for all in heaven and in
earth;' to Yesod, and "Yours 0 God is the Kingdom," to Malkuth.
The last phrase in The Lord's Prayer states, "For Thine is the
Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory, Forever and Ever. Amen." The Kingdom
corresponds to Malkuth, Power to Netzach, and Glory to Hod. Amen
corresponds to Kether.

The Third Commandment

In kabbalistic teachings, Daath is Sometimes combined with Binah.

This is why Binah and Daath correspond to the third commandment
(Exodus 20:7, Oxford Bible), "You shall not make wrongful use of the name
of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses
his name." With understanding and knowledge of the divine names comes
power. It is very important not to misuse power.

Warning

The author experimented on a certain divine name of God in a

situation that did not seem improper at the time. He heard an inner voice
say, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord your God in vain." He
stopped immediately. People who repeatedly misuse the divine names of

68
Active Intelligence

God have been known to suffer serious adverse consequences, including

suicide.
The use of the divine names to activate the chakras is to be done only
by senior disciples, not by probationary and junior disciples, and definitely
not by neophytes or the masses. Premature use of the divine names in
relation to the chakras may result in serious physical and psychological
health problems. Relationships may deteriorate and financial condition
may be adversely affected. Appropriate warning has been given to the
readers.

The Divine Name of Binah

Binah and Daath also correspond to the phrase in the Lord's Prayer,
"Holy Be Thy Name." The divine name of Binah is Elohim.

Why is this chapter called Chapter 11 instead of Chapter 4? In the

kabbalistic tradition, each sephirah or chakra corresponds to a certain
number, and this correspondence is followed strictly. Although Daath is
a hidden sephirah that comes after Binah, numerically it is number 11.
This is the reason why this is Chapter 11.

73
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

Kabbalah and Numberology

Kabbalah frequently uses numerology. The sephiroth or chakras have

co rrespo nding numerological values:

---
Chakra Sephirah Numerological Value

Forehead Chokmah 2
Ajna Binah 3
Heart Chesed 4

Table 3 The chakras and sephiroth and their numerological correspondence

Since Daath is a hidden sephirah , it is assigned the number 11.

The Sephiroth-Chakras and the Tarot

The tarot card is derived from the chakras or the sephiroth. The
minor arcana of the tarot card correspond to the sephiroth. There are
four suits in the minor arcana of the tarot. The wand corresponds to fire
and the will. The sword corresponds to air and intellect. The intellect is

74
The Hidden Centere

used for mentally dissecting the object that is being studied. A person
with a highly developed mind is described as having a sharp mind that
can cut through abstruse subjects. This is why the sword corresponds to
the intellectual faculty and to air. The cup corresponds to emotion and to
water. The pentacle corresponds to the earth and to physical manifestation.
It is usually connected with financial and material affairs.
The crown chakra - Kether corresponds to the ace. The forehead
- Chokmah corresponds to card number 2 in the minor arcana. The
ajna chakra - Binah corresponds to card number 3. The heart chakra -
Chesed corresponds to card number 4. The solar plexus chakra - Gevurah
corresponds to card number 5. The navel chakra- Tiphareth corresponds
to card number 6. The spleen chakra- Netzach corresponds to card number
7. The meng mein chakra - Hod corresponds to card number 8. The sex
chakra- Yesod corresponds to card number 9. The basic chakra- Malkuth
corresponds to card number 10.
By understanding the 11 major chakras, it is very easy to derive the
meaning of the sephiroth and the corresponding cards in the minor arcana.
Sufficient guidelines have been given to the readers to be able to deduce
the meanings of the cards in the minor arcana.

Daath - Throat Chakra

Daath in Kabbalah means "knowledge." It corresponds to the throat

chakra, which is located at the center of the throat. It has 16 petals and
contains predominantly blue prana with some green and violet pranas.
Since the throat chakra also controls the mouth, and the mouth is used for
chewing and digesting food, a lot of green prana is produced in a person
when he is eating. Green prana has a breaking-down effect.

75
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The throat chakra - Daath is the center of the concrete mind or

the lower mental faculty. It is through the use of the throat chakra or the
concrete mind that a person acquires knowledge. It is also the center for
higher creativity.

Physiological Functions

The throat chakra - Daath controls and energizes the throat, voice
box or larynx, air tube or trachea, thryroid glands, parathyroid glands
and the lymphatic system. To a certain degree, it also influences the sex
chakra - Yesod. Malfunctioning of the throat chakra - Daath manifests as
throat - related ailments such as goiter, sore throat, loss of voice, asthma,
sterility, etc.

Center of Higher Creativity

The throat chakra - Daath is the center of the lower mental faculty
or the concrete mind. It is used when meticulous details are involved in
such activities as studying, planning, painting, etc. When a person worries
too much, the throat chakra- Daath is overactivated. This manifests as the
mind becoming over - meticulous.
The throat chakra - Daath is also the center of higher creativity,
while the sex chakra is the center of "physical creativity" or procreation.
When Daath is quite strong and active, the sex chakra - Yesod is also
quite strong. This is why artists or creative people have strong sexual
drives. However, sex energy can be sublimated by bringing it up to the
throat chakra.

76
The Hidden Centere

Many artists, successful politicians, and businessmen have highly

developed throat and sex chakras. This explains why some of them tend
to have sexual affairs. It is impossible for a person to be highly creative
and still have an underactivated sex chakra, be impotent or frigid. For
the throat chakra -Daath to be highly activated, it is necessary for the sex
chakra- Yesod to be strong. But the reverse is not necessarily true. A highly
activated sex chakra - Yesod does not necessarily mean a highly activated
throat chakra - Daath.

Abyss and Daath

The throat chakra - Daath is also called the "abyss." Why? To

comprehend this, it is necessary to understand spiritual anatomy.
You actually have two souls: The higher soul, which is pure, and
the incarnated soul, which can be contaminated and is not pure. The two
souls are connected by a spiritual root or cord. The higher soul, in the
process of incarnating physically, extends a portion of itself"downward."
This portion of the soul that is incarnated is called the incarnated soul.
Unfortunately, the incarnated soul tends to forget where it comes from
and who it actually is. It tends to identify itself with the physical body,
the instincts, the desires, the emotions, the thoughts and the mind. The
incarnated soul, in the process of living its life, tends to be contaminated
and entangled by grosser and lower desires, emotions and thoughts.
This is why some religions have the concept of the purgatory after
the physical body dies. The incarnated soul is gradually purified until it
is able to go to the higher world and finally unite with the higher soul.
Through inner purification, a yogi or spiritual practitioner is able to go
to the higher world or heaven and experience union with the higher soul,

77
The Spiritual Essence of Man

even when the physical body is still alive. The word "yoga" means union
with one's higher soul.

"Daath is the abyss going down to the

lower world, but for a person trying to
develop spiritually, it changes its role from
being the abyss to being a spiritual bridge
to the higher world."

The crown chakra - Kether, forehead chakra - Chokmah, and ajna

chakra - Binah, which are usually underdeveloped in most people, are
chakras connected with the higher soul. The throat chakra - Daath,
the heart chakra - Chesed, the solar plexus chakra - Gevurah and other
lower chakras are connected with the incarnated soul. This is why the
throat chakra - Daath is called the abyss because anything below the ajna
chakra - Binah is connected with the incarnated soul which tends to be
psychologically contaminated. Through the throat chakra - Daath, the
incarnated soul descends to the "lower world." At the same time, it is also
a bridge to the higher world. Daath is the abyss going down to the lower
world, but for a person trying to develop spiritually, it changes its role
from being the abyss to being a spiritual bridge to the higher world. This
is one of the esoteric secrets that has been partially revealed just recently.
The throat chakra - Daath contains certain abstruse secrets. This is why
in Kabbalah very little explanation has been given about Daath.

78

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Daath

In Taoist yoga, the throat chakra corresponds to lianquan, which

means "stream of purity" or "clear fountain." In Chinese medicine, it
corresponds to the acupuncture point RN (CV) 23.
The Sanskrit term for the throat chakra- Daath is Vishuddhi chakra.
In Tamil (Southern India), it is called Ottu varmam.

Kosher Speech

Associated with Daath is a very important teaching necessary for one's

spiritual development: What comes out of the mouth is more important
than what goes in. This is implied in Mark 7:15-21 and Ephesians 4:29. If
what goes into the mouth is dirty, it just dirties the physical body. If what
comes out of the mouth is dirty, it dirties the incarnated soul. It is of great
importance to practice "kosher thoughts" and "kosher speech" rather than
put excessive emphasis on kosher food.

The Divine Name of Daath

Binah and Daath correspond to the third commandment. The divine

name of Daath is Yehovah Elohim.

Chesed - Heart Chakra

Chesed in Kabbalah means "mercy and loving-kindness." It

corresponds to the heart chakra, which is located in front of the heart or
at the center of the chest. The heart chakra has 12 petals. The front heart
chakra contains golden and light red pranas. There is also a back heart
chakra, and it is located at the back of the heart. The back heart chakra
contains golden, red, orange, and yellow pranas. The slight difference in
appearance between the front heart chakra and back heart chakra, however,
is that the front heart chakra contains more golden prana with some light
red prana.

Center of Higher Emotions

In pranic healing, when you want to calm a person down or make

him receptive to healing, activate the heart chakra - Chesed. This will
give him a sense of inner peace. It will also facilitate cleansing of his solar
plexus chakra. This is why psychologically ill patients must practice the
Meditation on Twin Hearts once or twice a day for several months. It will
be better if they practice it daily for the rest of their lives. In acupuncture, a
hysterical person can be calmed down by stimulating certain acupuncture
points that activate the heart chakra.
Chesed is the center of the emotional heart. Compared to the solar
plexus chakra- Gevurah, the heart chakra- Chesed is the center of higher
emotions such as peace, serenity, joy compassion, kindness, gentleness,
tenderness, caring, considerateness, patience, sensitivity, etc. The solar
plexus - Gevurah, which is the center of lower emotions, is self-oriented.
The heart chakra - Chesed is "others-oriented," as in "What are the needs
of other people? ... What would other people feel? ... and What would
other people think? Both qualities of being self-oriented and being others-
oriented are equally important. If you want to achieve a balance between
the physical or material, and the spiritual aspects of your life, both the
solar pleYus chakra - Gevurah and the heart chakra - Chesed must be
developed evenly.
If the heart chakra - Chesed is overdeveloped and the solar plexus
chakra- Gevurah is underdeveloped, there is a tendency that other people
will take advantage of you, abuse and misuse you. If the solar plexus chakra
- Gevurah is overactivated, there is a tendency to be too selfish, and maybe
even ruthless. To become psychologically healthy, the development of the
solar plexus chakra - Gevurah and heart chakra - Chesed must be balanced.

84
Th e Key To Prosperitye

This is called balancing loving-kindness with self-interest.

To agitate the solar plexus is also to agitate the heart chakra. This is
why negative emotions eventually have detrimental effects on the physical
heart. By activating the heart chakra - Chesed, the lower emotional energies
can be transmuted into higher forms of emotional energies.
The activation of the heart chakra - Chesed ensures that the enhanced
intellectual faculty and the increase in will power will be used properly and
harmlessly. The crown chakra - Kether can only be sufficiently activated
when the heart chakra - Chesed is first activated. The heart chakra is a

replica of the crown chakra. It is the center for compassion, joy, affection,
consideration, mercy, and other refined emotions. It is only by developing
the higher and refined emotions that one can possibly experience divine
love. Explaining divine love and illumination to an ordinary person is just
like explaining what color is to a blind man.
With the pervasiveness of modern education and the advancement
of careers that require the use of much of the mental faculty, the throat
chakra - Daath is developed in a lot of people. The development of the
heart chakra - Chesed has been neglected, and because of this, you may
encounter a person who is quite intelligent and successful in his career but
is very abrasive. This type of person has not yet matured emotionally or has

85
The Spiritual Essence of Man

a heart chakra that is quite underdeveloped. Although he is intelligent and

"successful;' his human relationship skills may be very poor. By practicing
the Meditation on Twin Hears, a person may become harmoniously
balanced.
Without the development of the heart chakra - Chesed in most
people, world peace cannot be possible. This is why the development of
the heart should be emphasized in the educational system.

Physiological Functions

The front heart chakra controls and energizes the heart and thymus
gland, while the back heart chakra controls and energizes the lungs, the
heart, the thymus gland, and the circulatory system. Malfunctioning of the
front heart chakra manifests as heart and circulatory ailments. The solar
plexus chakra is quite sensitive to emotions, tension and stress, and has
a strong influence on the physical heart and the front heart chakra. The
front heart chakra is closely connected to the front solar plexus chakra by
several big energy channels, and is also energized by the front solar plexus
chakra to a certain degree. Patients with heart problems usually have a
malfunctioning solar plexus chakra. The back heart chakra primarily
controls and energizes the lungs and, to a certain degree, the heart and
the thymus gland. Malfunctioning of the back heart chakra manifests as
lung problems such as asthma, tuberculosis, and others.
The heart chakra also affects the ability of the body to fight infection.
From a medical viewpoint, the thymus gland is an important factor in the
defense system of the body.

86
The Key To Prosperitye

Giving - The Way to Prosperity

In Kabbalah the heart chakra is also called Gedulah, which means

"greatness" or "abundance." When a person is merciful and compassionate,
she gives and shares generously. Giving is the secret of prosperity and
abundance. That is why Saint Francis of Assisi said, "It is in giving that
we receive." Saint Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:6 (Lamsa's Translation) also
said, "He who sows generously shall reap also generously." And in Luke
6:38 (King fames Version) Jesus said, "Give and it shall be given unto you;
good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over..."
According to Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching, "The more he gives, the more
he has." By showing compassion and mercy, and by sharing and giving,
one is blessed with tremendous abundance and prosperity.

'Thy Kingdom Come'

This phrase corresponds to the heart chakra and the virtues of

compassion, mercy, love, giving, and sharing. It is by giving and sharing
that one generates prosperity karma or "inherits the kingdom."
By meditating on the heart chakra and on the deeper meaning of
the phrase "Thy Kingdom Come," the heart chakra is activated. This tends
to make a person more giving, more compassionate and generous. It also
creates in the person a great sense of peace.

87
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

Love as a Gateway to Illumination

Chesed or the heart chakra is the emotional heart. When you love
your partner, parents, children or relatives, it is Chesed that is manifesting.
However, there is also a divine heart and this is called Kether, also known
as Sahasrara chakra in Sanskrit. Kether is the center of divine love, the
center of divine union or yoga. Unless your Kether is activated, you will
not experience soul realization or divine union with your higher soul. But
before it can be activated, Chesed must be activated first. Kether involves
universal love. When a person does not have love for his own parents or
relatives, how can he expect to have love for many people, including other
beings?
Based on clairvoyant observation, Chesed or the heart chakra is the
lower correspondence of the crown chakra. The crown chakra has 960
outer petals and 12 golden inner petals. The 12 golden petals of the heart
chakra is a reflection of the 12 golden inner petals of the crown chakra.
This is why the crown chakra connot be activated without first developing
the heart chakra. Without love, illumination and divine oneness are not
possible.

Auric Cleansing and Achieving Inner Calmness

When a person does Meditation on Twin Hearts, spiritual energy

comes down through the spiritual cord into Kether - crown chakra and
into Chesed- heart chakra; it radiates out into the aura, causing turbulent,
noisy thoughts and emotions to be flushed out or disintegrated. This is
why it is very easy to achieve calmness when doing Meditation on Twin
Hearts.

88
The Key To Prosperitye

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Chesed

In Taoist yoga, the front heart chakra corresponds to yu tang,

which means "hall of jade." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to the
acupuncture point RN (CV) 18.
The Sanskrit term for the front heart chakra is Anahata chakra. In
Tamil (Southern India), its correspondence is Kadhir.
The back heart chakra, in Taoist yoga, corresponds to ling tai, which
means "divine or spirit's platform" or "Temple of the Soul." In Chinese
medicine, it corresponds to the acupuncture point DU (GV) 10. In Tamil,
the correspondence of the back heart chakra is Mel kaala varmam.

Energizing the Physical Heart

Through the Back Heart Chakra

The heart chakra - Chesed also affects the ability of the body to
fight infection. From a medical viewpoint the thymus gland, which can
be energized through Chesed (back heart chakra), is important in the
defense system of the body.
Energizing Chesed or the physical heart is done through the back
heart chakra, through which prana can easily flow into the heart, lungs,
and other parts of the body without causing the physical heart to be
congested. Energizing the front heart chakra directly and immediately
energizes the physical heart; however, the pranic energy tends to localize
and does not spread easily to other parts of the body. This may result in
serious heart pranic congestion. It is therefore advisable not to intensely
energize the front heart chakra for a long period. Experienced pranic

89
The Spiritual Essence of Man

healers energize through the back heart chakra. This does not have a
localized effect on the physical heart, because excess prana can easily flow
to the other parts of the body. The whole body could be energized through
the back heart chakra.

The Physical Permanent Seed

The physical permanent seed is located in the heart chakra- Chesed,

and the physical heart. The physical permanent seed is also called the "life
seed;' since it gives life to the physical body. From the higher soul, soul
life energy is infused into the physical permanent seed from where it is
distributed into the different parts of the physical body, making the body
whole and integrated. It also gives the physical body the ability to absorb
prana. Once the soul life energy is withdrawn from the physical permanent
seed, the body dies.
Before the higher soul extends a portion of itself downward to
incarnate, it consults first with an extremely intelligent higher being. With
the help of this great and superior being, a plan or destiny of the person
is formulated and encoded in the physical permanent seed. Therefore, the
physical permanent seed contains your destiny.

The Fourth Commandment

Chesed corresponds to the fourth commandment (Exodus 20:8,

Oxford Bible), "Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy." It corresponds
to mercy and love. Sabbath means to rest from physical activity. It does
not necessarily mean Saturday. It could be any day, and any time when

90
The Key To Prosperitye

a person temporarily rests from physical activity in order to pray, to

meditate and to spiritually turn inward. It could also be a period when
a person practices loving-kindness and mercy by donating his time and
energy doing service for the benefit of others. This is why the Lord Jesus
also healed on Sabbath day.

Gevurah - Solar Plexus Chakra

Gevurah in Kabbalah means "severity, judgment, and strength." It
corresponds to the solar plexus chakra, which is located at the hollow area
between the ribs. The back solar plexus is located at the back of the front
solar plexus. The term Gevurah or solar plexus chakra shall mean both
the front and the back solar plexus chakras.
The solar plexus chakra has 10 petals and contains red, yellow,
green, and blue pranas. It also contains a little of orange and violet
pranas. More green prana is produced when a person is eating. When
a person moves his bowel, a lot of orange prana and some yellow
prana are produced by the solar plexus chakra and the navel chakra.

95
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

When yellow prana comes in contact with orange prana, this produces
a triggering effect on the large intestine. This is why treatment of
constipation uses orange prana or yellow prana, or both.

Physiological Functions

The solar plexus chakra - Gevurah and the navel chakra - Tiphareth
control and energize the gastrointestinal system. The solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah controls and energizes the diaphragm, pancreas, liver, and
stomach. It is easier to energize the pancreas through the back solar plexus
chakra. To a certain degree, the solar plexus chakra - Gevurah energizes the
large and small intestines, appendix, lungs, heart, and other parts of the
body. Patients suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, autoimmune ailments
and lupus erythematosus have malfunctioning solar plexus chakra and
liver. Malfunctioning of the solar plexus chakra - Gevurah may manifest
as difficulty in breathing due to a malfunctioning diaphragm, diabetes,
hepatitis, pancreatic, digestive and gall bladder ailments, high cholesterol
level, and heart and blood ailments.
The solar plexus chakra also affects the quality of the blood, because
it controls and energizes the liver, which detoxifies the blood. Through the
liver, it controls the cholesterol level of the body and, therefore, affects the
condition of the heart.

The Energy Distribution Center

Subtle energies from the lower chakras and from the higher
chakras pass through the solar plexus chakra. The whole body can be
energized through the solar plexus chakra - Gevurah. On rare occasions,

96
Balancing Severity with Mercy

overenergizing the solar plexus chakra without thoroughly cleansing

first may result in pranic congestion, thereby partially paralyzing the
diaphragm, and causing difficulty in breathing. Congested prana should
be removed immediately. An exhausted person can be revitalized rapidly
by energizing the solar plexus chakra. This chakra also controls the heating
and cooling systems of the body. The solar plexus chakra - Gevurah can
be easily disturbed or imbalanced by negative emotions.

Center of Lower Emotions

Solar plexus - Gevurah is the center of both positive and negative

lower emotions: Positive emotions include ambition, daringness, courage,
perseverance, strength, righteous indignation, justice and fairness. Negative
lower emotions include anger, irritation, hate, envy, greed, destructiveness,
violence, cruelty, resentment, worry, anxiety, tension, fear, selfishness,
aggressiveness, abrasiveness, addiction, etc. When a person is very angry,
the solar plexus chakra pulsates erratically. This causes the diaphragm to
move erratically, resulting in irregular shallow breathing.
When a person is physically violent, the solar plexus chakra- Gevurah,
the basic chakra - Malkuth, and the meng mein chakra - Hod become
overactivated. But the main chakra that influences the other chakras is the
solar plexus chakra - Gevurah. By normalizing the solar plexus chakra -
Gevurah through cleansing and energizing, a violent person can be calmed
down in a short period of time. In healing psychological ailments, the solar
plexus chakra - Gevurah is usually, if not always, treated. When a person
is under stress or harbors a deep-seated grudge towards other people, the
solar plexus chakra - Gevurah becomes congested with dirty red energy.

97
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Will Center of the Masses

The term "lower emotion" is not necessarily bad. The solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah, as stated earlier, is also the center of courage, daring,
strong drive, perseverance, and the desire to win. This is the "I" center, as
in "I want this, I want that, I need that ...." To be successful, the solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah has to be strong. It is the center of assertiveness.
In general, the masses are emotionally driven. Therefore, the solar
plexus chakra - Gevurah is where the lower will is located; it is the will
center of the masses. This is why in Kabbalah, the solar plexus chakra -
Gevurah is also called "Strength." In more developed people, the will center
is located on the ajna chakra - Binah which is active intelligence. This is
the will center for the intelligentsia or the more developed people. The
intelligence is used to will or to direct the activities of other people. That
is why managers or executives in Europe are called "directors." This type
of intelligence is called "active intelligence," "directing intelligence" or
"creative intelligence," which is different from "sterile intelligence." There
are people who dress and talk but do not produce results. This is sterile
intelligence.

Aligning Gevurah with the Higher Will

Although the will center for the masses is located in the solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah, a person has the option of following either the urges
of the lower nature, or the will of the higher soul. When the lower will of
man is aligned with the will of the higher soul, man treads the path of Tao
or the spiritual path of righteousness.

98
Balancing Severity with Me rcy

Gevurah corresponds to the phrase "Thy Will Be Done" in the Lord's

Prayer. By meditating on the deeper meaning of the phrase, solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah will be properly activated. The inner strength of the
person increases, as he is under the influence of his higher soul.

"When the lower will of man is aligned

with the will of the higher soul, man treads
the path of Tao or the spiritual path of
righteousness."

Emotional Permanent Seed

The emotional permanent seed is lodged in the solar plexus chakra

and the liver. It is pinkish rose-red to predominantly rose-red with rainbow
colors around it. The emotional permanent seed contains the design of
your emotional body. Why is this subtle body called the emotional body?
Because through this subtle body a person is able to experience intense
emotions ranging from anger, irritation, fear, love, sweetness, and others.
With the use of the emotional body, two lovers in the inner world can
unite in intense divine ecstasy. The emotional body is also called the "astral
body" because it is made oflight. It looks like starry light. When the body
is sleeping, the incarnated soul transfers to the astral body and travels in
the inner world.

Gevurah and Chesed

100
Balancing Severity with Mercy

Second Pair of Complementary Opposites:

Balancing Severity with Mercy

The Solar plexus chakra - Gevurah corresponds to severity and

justice. The heart chakra- Chesed corresponds to love and mercy. Severity
and mercy are the second complementary pair of opposites.
Severity and justice must be balanced by love, mercy and healing. Too
much severity and justice manifest as cruelty and barbarism. Too much
mercy, love, and tolerance manifest as chaos. Left alone by itself, Gevurah
tends to be cruel. A state that is strongly influenced by Gevurah manifests
as a police or totalitarian state, a country where people live in fear and have
no freedom. Punitive justice must be balanced with Chesed, manifesting
as transformative justice or therapeutic justice. Politicians and lawmakers
should realize by now that people who break the law are not really bad.
They are just stressed out or psychologically sick. Therefore, they require
love, psychological counseling and pranic psychotherapy.
Imprisonment should be used only as a last resort and not as the
first plan of action. It should be used on people only because they pose a
serious danger to society and not because they have decided to go against
the law or "the will of the few" manifesting as the law. Laws created by
human beings are forever changing. Activities that are supposedly illegal
may become legal in the future while those that are legal may become
illegal. What is legal or illegal sometimes does not depend on what is right
or wrong. Sometimes, it depends on the strength and influence of certain
groups with vested interests. In such case, the judiciary system becomes
just a tool for these powerful groups.

lOl
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The Pentagram and Gevurah

The symbol of Gevurah is the pentagram or the five-pointed star.

Gevurah also means justice. This is why in general, the sheriff, marshal,
police or similar agencies used the five-pointed star. The Scale ofJustice has
also five points. When the points are connected, they form a five-pointed
star or a pentagram. Gevurah is severity and strength manifesting as
military power. This is why the military headquarters of the United States
is housed in a pentagon. A pentagon is actually a pentagram.

The Pentagram and the Five Virtues

According to Omraam M. Aivanhov, in his book New Light on

the Gospels, the pentagram corresponds to the five virtues, which are
symbolized by the five wise maidens (Matthew 25:1-13). The five foolish
maidens correspond to the five vices or weaknesses.
The five virtues correspond to the five sephiroth, with Binah and
Daath considered as one. The lack of development of these sephiroth or
chakras manifests as opposites of these five virtues. The five wise maidens
that correspond to the five virtues are: goodness or goodwill - Kether,
wisdom - Chokmah, truth - Binah and Daath, love and kindness - Chesed,
and justice - Gevurah. The five foolish maidens that correspond to the
five vices or weaknesses are opposites of the five virtues: the opposite of
goodwill or goodness is maliciousness and ruthlessness; the opposite of
wisdom is foolishness; the opposite of truth is lie; the opposite of love is
hatred; the opposite of justice is injustice.

In Taoist yoga, the front solar plexus chakra corresponds to zhong

wan, which means "center of stomach." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds
to the acupuncture point RN (CV) 12.
The back solar plexus chakra in Taoist yoga corresponds to zhang
shu, which means "center of body," or with ji zhang, which means "center
of spine." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to the acupuncture point
DU(GV) 7 and DU(GV) 6, respectively.
The Sanskrit term for the solar plexus chakra is Manipura chakra.
In Tamil (Southern India), the correspondence of the front solar plexus
chakra is Ner varmam, while the back solar plexus chakra is Sangudhiri

The Fifth Commandment

Gevurah- solar plexus chakra corresponds to the fifth commandment

(Exodus 20:12, Oxford Bible), "Honor your father and your mother."
Gevurah means justice and strength. Parents pass through much difficulties
and experiences in life. With inner and physical strength, they sacrifice a
lot to support and bring up their children. In general, they are capable
of judging what is good for them. It is expected that children should
honor, respect and love their parents. Parents should be treated with deep
gratitude.

Tiphareth - Navel Chakra

Tiphareth in Kabbalah means "beauty." It corresponds to the navel

chakra, which is located on the navel. It has eight petals and contains
predominantly yellow, green, blue, red, and violet pranas. It also contains
a little of orange prana. The navel chakra - Tiphareth produces "synthetic
golden chi:' which facilitates or helps in the circulation of prana within the
meridians. Synthetic golden chi facilitates the drawing in of prana by the
etheric body. Persons with more synthetic chi can draw in more prana.
The word "chi" is used quite loosely to mean subtle energies. Chi is
sometimes used to mean air prana, ground prana, red prana and other
types of prana. It is also used to mean a type of"biosynthetic chi" produced
109
The Spiritual Essence of Man

by the navel chakra. This biosynthetic chi is quite different from prana
or life energy. It affects one's ability to draw in, distribute, and assimilate
prana. During bad weather conditions, the quantity of air prana is quite
scarce. Persons with lesser biosynthetic chi have greater difficulty drawing
in air prana; therefore, compared to the average person, they tend to feel
more tired or low.
The body gets nutrients by drinking and eating and, in the process,
produces hormones through the endocrine glands. Food, water, and juices
correspond to different types of pranic energies, which are absorbed by
the energy body. The hormones produced by the body correspond to
the biosynthetic chi produced by the energy body. The biosynthetic chi
produced by the navel chakra is golden in color.

Physiological Functions

The navel chakra - Tiphareth controls and energizes the small and
large intestines and the appendix. It affects the speed of giving birth and
the general vitality. Malfunctioning of the navel chakra may manifest as
constipation, loose bowel movement, inability to assimilate food nutrients,
appendicitis, intestinal ailments, difficulty in giving birth, low vitality, and
other diseases related to the intestines.
The navel chakra - Tiphareth is the center of the instinct for knowing.
For example, when you practice martial arts, you do not think about the
next move you have to make. You instinctively know what to do when
confronted by an opponent.
When the navel chakra - Tiphareth is dirty and is not functioning
properly, the upward flow of energy from the sex chakra to the navel chakra,
and to the higher chakras may be blocked. If this happens, the person may
become sexually overactivated.

110
Beauty and the Golden Ball

Tiphareth and the Golden Ball of Chi Energy

Tiphareth is called Beauty. The navel chakra concretizes spiritual

energy into a "golden ball of chi energy," which looks like a golden sun,
surrounded by rainbow-color light.
By meditating on Tiphareth and on the phrase "On Earth As It Is
In Heaven" in the Lord's Prayer, the navel chakra is activated and more
golden chi energy is produced. Golden chi energy is necessary for the
rapid evolution of the physical body. Just as a computer software of a
higher version requires a computer hardware of a higher model, so must

"Golden chi energy is necessary for the

rapid evolution of the physical body."
J
the accelerated evolution of the soul be accompanied by the accelerated
evolution of the body. Otherwise, the body will not be a suitable vehicle
for the highly evolved soul.
The phrase "On Earth As It Is In Heaven" in the Lord's Prayer also
means good action. This corresponds to the navel chakra - Tiphareth
which controls and regulates the basic chakra - Malkuth, the center of
actions. Good thoughts correspond to the ajna chakra- Binah; good words
correspond to the throat chakra - Daath; good heart corresponds to the
heart chakra - Chesed; goodwill corresponds to the solar plexus chakra -
Gevurah; and good actions correspond to the navel chakra - Tiphareth.
Good thoughts, good words, good heart, and goodwill must be manifested
as good actions.

In Taoist yoga, the navel chakra corresponds to shen que, which means
"divine vault." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to the acupuncture
point RN (CV) 8.
The correspondence of the navel chakra in Tamil (Southern India)

The Sixth Commandment

Tiphareth - navel chakra corresponds to the sixth commandment

(Exodus 20:13, Oxford Bible), "You shall not murder." The navel chakra
controls and energizes the small intestine, which is responsible for
assimilating nutrients from the digested food. Without this, the body will
die. In the Japanese tradition, the navel chakra is called hara, the life center.
In the Chinese tradition, the secondary navel chakras, located roughly
about 1 1/2 inches (3.75 centimeters) below the navel chakra and 1 1/2
inches inside, are called Qi Hai which means "ocean of chi or life energy."
From this, it becomes clear why the sixth commandment "You shall not
murder" corresponds to Tiphareth - navel chakra.

Netzach - Spleen Chakra

Netzach in Kabbalah means "victory" or "power." It corresponds to

the spleen chakra. The spleen chakra is the source of power and life energy.
Without power and life energy, a person cannot be successful or victorious.
It is through the spleen chakra that air prana is absorbed, digested and
distributed to different chakras or sephiroth. The spleen chakra is the
source of life energy for the other chakras. It draws in air prana or "white"
prana, and breaks it down into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet
pranas, which are then distributed to the other major chakras and to the
entire body. This means that the other major chakras and vital organs are
substantially dependent on the spleen chakra for pranic energy.

li S
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

When the spleen chakra becomes dirty, as in the case of a

contaminated healer, the person will experience chronic fatigue syndrome
and will not be able to work or to heal. Since he cannot work or heal, he
is not successful or victorious in life. Unless the spleen chakra is healthy,
a person does not have enough pranic energy to do anything, more so to
achieve success in life.
The spleen chakra is located at the center of the left bottom rib. The
back spleen chakra is located at the back of the front spleen chakra. Both
the front and the back of the spleen chakra have the same functions. The

"Netzach in Kabbalah means victory or

power. It corresponds to the spleen chakra

spleen chakra, which has six petals, is normally about 1/3 to 1/2 the average
size of the other chakras.

Physiological Functions

The spleen chakra - Netzach controls and energizes the physical

spleen of the body. The physical spleen removes abnormal particles. It
purifies the blood of diseased-causing germs, and destroys worn-out blood
cells. It also produces antibodies. It is through the spleen chakra that the
body is "victorious" over diseased-causing germs.
The functions of the spleen chakra are the following:
a) It controls and energizes the physical spleen;

116
The Source of Life

b) It affects the pranic energy level or the general vitality of the

body;
c) It affects the quality of the blood; and
d) It affects the immune system of the body.
Malfunctioning of the spleen chakra - Netzach may manifest as
ailments of the physical spleen, low vitality, lower immunity level, dirty
blood or blood ailments, arthritis and rheumatism. Rheumatoid arthritis
patients have dirty spleen chakras.
The spleen chakra - Netzach apparently plays a vital part in a person's
general well-being. It affects the physical and psychological energy level
of a person. If the spleen chakra - Netzach is clean and highly energized,
the person will feel strong and healthy. If it is weak, the person will also
feel weak. A weak spleen chakra means a weak physical body and low
pranic energy level. A person who is quite depressed has a depleted spleen
chakra - Netzach.

Netzach and Tiphareth

The spleen chakra - Netzach is closely related to the navel chakra

- Tiphareth. When the navel chakra - Tiphareth is highly energized and
activated, the spleen chakra- Netzach also becomes substantially energized
and partially activated, thereby drawing in more air prana. This condition
increases the pranic energy level of the entire body.
A person can be energized by just concentrating on the navel chakra -
Tiphareth. This will substantially activate and energize the spleen chakra-
Netzach, which in turn energizes the other chakras, and thus the entire
body. The navel chakra- Tiphareth is also closely related to the meng mein
chakra - Hod.

It is advisable not to overenergize the spleen chakra of patients

with hypertension or with a history of hypertension, because this may
increase the blood pressure. It is also advisable not to energize the spleen
chakra - Netzach of infants and young children - unless really necessary
-because they may faint as a result of pranic congestion. However, should
this happen, just apply general sweeping.
On the other hand, based on clairvoyant observations, the spleen
chakra - Netzach of patients suffering from cases of severe infection is
adversely affected. Such patients are very weak or very depleted; therefore
their spleen chakra must be treated to facilitate and speed up healing.
Only experienced or advanced pranic healers, however, should energize
the spleen chakra.

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Netzach

In Taoist yoga, the front spleen chakra corresponds tofu ai, which
means "abdomen of depression." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to
the acupuncture point SP 16.
The back spleen chakra in Taoist yoga corresponds to wei cang,
which means "stomach's storage." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to
the acupuncture point BL 50.
The correspondence of the spleen chakra in Sanskrit is Prana chakra.
In Tamil (Southern India), it is called Kaareeral varmam.

Netzach is the entry point for prana or life energy of the body. In
the Lord's Prayer, it corresponds to the phrase "Give us this day our daily

bread." The word "bread" symbolizes life energy, which is required by the
physical body in order to survive. Similarly, the Hawaiian Kahuna term
for life energy is manna, and in Chinese it is called chi. The condition of
Netzach affects the physical and psychological energy level of a person.

The Seventh Commandment

The Netzach- spleen chakra corresponds to the seventh commandment

Hod - Meng Mein Chakra

Hod in Kabbalah means "glory." It corresponds to the meng mein

chakra, which is located at the back of the navel. The meng mein chakra -
Hod has eight petals, and contains predominantly orange prana and less of
red prana. It also contains smaller amounts of yellow and blue pranas.

Inner Alchemy: Transmuting 'Lead into Gold'

The meng mein chakra - Hod serves as a "pumping station" in the

spine. It is responsible for the upward flow of subtle pranic energies coming
from the basic chakra. To be more exact, the meng mein chakra - Hod
acts as an "energy accelerator" that increases the rate of vibration of the
lower pranic energy. This causes the lower pranic energy to gush out with

123

tremendous speed through the back meridian and spread to all parts of
the body and up to the crown.
The meng mein chakra- Hod has the power to transmute "lead into
gold." Lead symbolizes lower pranic energy which is predominantly red.
Gold symbolizes golden energy. The lower pranic energy is transmuted
into golden energy by the time it reaches the crown chakra.
There are several alchemical centers. Of these, there are three
important alchemical centers corresponding to the three types of Hod-
glory. The first is the meng mein chakra, which is the etheric alchemical
center or the etheric Hod - glory. The second one is the back heart chakra,
which is the emotional alchemical center or the emotional Hod - glory.
The third one is the crown chakra, which is the spiritual alchemical center
or the spiritual Hod - glory.

chakra - Hod controls and regulates the adrenal glands. The adrenal glands
produce hormones that temporarily give a person extraordinary strength
or power. The other chakras involved in this function are the solar plexus
chakra - Gevurah and the basic chakra - Malkuth.

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Hod

In Taoist yoga, Hod corresponds to ming men, which means "gate of

The correspondence of the meng mein chakra in Tamil (Southern
India), is Kachai varmam.

'Forgive Us Our Trespasses . ..'

In the Meditation on the Lord's Prayer, the phrase, "Forgive us our

trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us;' corresponds to
Hod - meng mein chakra. This phrase also corresponds to Chesed (back
heart chakra) and Kether (crown chakra), both of which facilitate the act
of forgiveness and inner healing.
Hod (meng mein chakra), Chesed (back heart chakra) and Kether
(crown chakra) have the power to transmute lower, grosser energy into
spiritual energy. By doing so, the higher chakras are activated. This enables
a person to see things as they are. Every person is evolving, and evolution
implies process, time, and mistakes. Once a person realizes that everybody
makes mistakes and that this is a part of the natural process of spiritual
evolution, forgiving others and also one's self becomes easy. Once there

Physiological Functions

The meng mein chakra - Hod controls and energizes the kidneys and
the adrenal glands. It also controls the blood pressure. Malfunctioning of
the meng mein chakra- Hod may manifest as kidney problems, low vitality,
blood pressure ailments, and back problems, and may even manifest as
abnormal growth rate of cells when the other major chakras are also
malfunctioning.
The size of the meng mein chakra- Hod is only about 1/3 to 1/2 the
size of the other major chakras, and should be treated only by experienced
or advanced pranic healers. When the size of the meng mein chakra - Hod
is normal, the blood pressure is normal. When it is overactivated, or its
size ratio is higher, then the blood pressure is above the normal level. If the
meng mein chakra - Hod is underactivated, or its size ratio is lower, then
the blood pressure is below the normal level. The meng mein chakra - Hod
of infants, children, pregnant women, and elderly people should not be
energized- unless really necessary- because of possible adverse effects.
The meng mein chakra - Hod and sex chakra - Yesod control and
energize the urinary system. It is also closely related to the spleen chakra
- Netzach. When the spleen chakra - Netzach is highly energized, the
meng mein chakra - Hod is also substantially energized. When the spleen
chakra- Netzach is activated, the meng mein chakra- Hod is also partially
activated. This is why it is not advisable to energize the spleen chakra -
Netzach of a patient with hypertension.

Third Pair of Complementary Opposites:

Balancing Victory with Glory

The third horizontal bar of the triple cross or Grand Cross

corresponds to the third pair of complementary opposites - balancing
victory with glory. In the Orthodox Cross, the third horizontal bar
inclines to the right. Is this accidental or is there an inner meaning to it?
In situations of conflict, there are two possible alternatives. First is the
confrontational or combative approach. The degree of conflict is escalated
to the level of enmity, hostility, crisis, quarrel, feud, battle or war until one
is victorious. But this victory is achieved at a great cost. The escalation of
conflict is done through the following:
1. The parties involved react emotionally and mindlessly;
2. By lack of self-restraint or group-restraint;
3. By adapting the policy of provocation; for example, one party
may insist on discussing or emphasizing sensitive topics or issues
that may be trivial or inconsequential, and which may cause
the other party to react emotionally, hysterically or fanatically.
This is like rubbing salt on an open wound. Provocation is not
limited to verbal provocation; it may come in different forms;
and
4. By adapting the policy of retaliation or severe retaliation, which
will determine the course of future actions. An eye for an eye or
an eye for 10 eyes, or a tooth for a tooth or a tooth for 10 teeth

is not exactly a policy that will encourage harmony and peace

on a regional or global level.
The second alternative is the harmonizing and transformative
approach. This is done by defusing the degree of conflict:
1. By emotionally remaining calm;
2. By practicing self-restraint or group restraint;
3. By establishing communication lines and promoting
communication;
4. By adapting the policy of understanding and forgiveness;
5. Through the use of negotiation;
6. Through diplomatic, political and/or economic approach;
and
7. Through compromise.

"This is the meaning ofglory- to transform!

a potentially or an actually volatile,
violent and destructive situation into
understanding, harmony and peace."

This is the meaning of glory - to transform a potentially or an

actually volatile, violent and destructive situation into understanding,
harmony and peace. This is why the third horizontal bar of the triple cross
is inclined to the right. Since the right hip corresponds to Hod, it inclines
to the right to emphasize the use of the harmonizing and transformative
approach. Its inner significance is that when there is conflict, the emphasis
should be to defuse it rather than to escalate it, and to try to restore
harmony and peace.

129
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Netzach
Victory

Hod
Glory

Fig. 69 Triple Cross of the Orthodox Church: Third

horizontal bar inclines to its right

In a potentially violent situation, the emphasis should be on decreasing the

level of conflict by utilizing the harmonizing and transformative approach.

130
Inner Alchemy

Sometimes the third horizontal line of the Orthodox Cross inclines

to the left. What is its meaning? Some kabbalistic schools hold the belief
that the Tree of Life or Kabbalistic cross is a mirror image of the body. Since
Hod or glory corresponds to the right hip of the body, it will appear on the
mirror as the left hip. That is why in the Christian Orthodox Church, the
third horizontal bar is sometimes inclined to the left, again emphasizing
the use of the harmonizing and transformative approach, rather than the
confrontational approach.
Even up to the present, the Christian Orthodox Church supposedly
has two sets of teachings:
1. "Written traditions"; and
2. "Unwritten traditions"
The written traditions are the literal teachings. The unwritten
traditions are oral teachings connected with those that are given
symbolically. St. Paul stated in 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (Oxford Bible), "So
then brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that
you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by our letter." [Italics
added.] The oral teachings are called the "mysteries of the kingdom of
heaven." Heaven means "the inner world." In other words, the mysteries
of the kingdom of heaven are the "inner teachings" orally transmitted to
those who are more spiritually mature.
The harmonizing approach can be used between husbands and
wives, parents and children, workers and employers, between different
groups or companies, between tribes and between nations.

131
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

For this approach to work:

1. The parties involved must be honest and sincere in their desire
for peace;
2. Their constituents must practice group restraint. Without it,
there will be chaos;
3. The demand must not be excessive or fanatical, but must be
realistic.
It is preferable to use the transformative approach through
diplomatic, political and/or economic means to solve regional problems,
but sometimes peace is just simply used as a tool to gain time and strength.
The confrontational approach should be used only when it is absolutely
necessary and as a last option when all means have failed. If ever military
action has to be taken, the strategy has to be well formulated and well
executed. A military operation should be efficient, effective, fast and short.
Very often the strategies are formulated based on wrong premises. What is
supposed to be a war lasting only for several months ends up to several years
or more. A long military operation is extremely costly in terms of business
losses, lives lost, and physical and psychological damage to civilians and
soldiers. It is economically expensive and debilitating.

The Eighth Commandment

Hod- meng mein chakra corresponds to the eighth commandment

(Exodus 20:15, Oxford Bible), "You shall not steal."

The divine name of Hod is Adonai Tzabaoth.

Yesod - Sex Chakra

Yesod in Kabbalah means "foundation." It corresponds to the sex

chakra, which is located at the pubic area. The sex chakra - Yesod is the
foundation of physical creation- the foundation of the physical world. It
has six petals and contains red prana of two different shades, and orange
prana.

135
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The sex chakra - Yesod is the center of sexual instinct. Persons with
strong sex chakras usually have strong sexual drives.
The sex chakra- Yesod is the physical creative center for procreation.
The throat chakra - Daath is the center for higher creativity. It is the
higher correspondence of the sex chakra - Yesod. The two are closely
interconnected. This is why highly artistic or very intelligent people tend to
have very strong sexual drives and lots of sexual scandals. It is not possible
for a person to be very creative or intelligent and be sexually impotent or
inhibited at the same time.
Part of the sex energy is transmuted by the body to a higher form of
pranic energy to be utilized for creative, intelligent and spiritual functions.
The transmuted sex energy is required for the proper functioning of the
throat chakra and the chakras in the head area. Mentally retarded patients
have depleted sex chakras. That is why their throat, ajna, forehead and
crown chakras are also depleted and do not function properly. In older
people, the sex chakra- Yesod and the basic chakra- Malkuth are depleted.
This is one of the factors why older people tend to become senile. The
science and art of transmuting sex energy into creative energy, and into a
higher form of pranic energy to activate the brain cells is taught in Arhatic
Yoga.
Mentally retarded people have severely depleted sex chakras- Yesod.
A strong, healthy sex chakra is necessary for a healthy throat chakra, which
is also responsible for the development of the mental faculty. Therefore, it
is very important to treat the sex chakra of mentally retarded people for
a prolonged period of time.

136
Sacred Sex

Physiological Functions

It has been clairvoyantly observed that when a person is urinating,

his sex chakra and meng mein chakra produce more orange prana, which
is used in expelling and eliminating waste matter from the body.
The sex chakra - Yesod controls and energizes the sex organs, the
bladder and the urethra. It also affects the legs, the throat, and the head.
The ajna chakra - Binah, throat chakra - Daath and basic chakra -
Malkuth have a strong influence on the sex chakra- Yesod. Malfunctioning
of any of these chakras may adversely affect the sex chakra - Yesod.
Malfunctioning of the sex chakra - Yesod may manifest as:
a) urinary problems
b) impotency
c) sterility
d) enlarged prostate gland
e) other sexual ailments

Chinese and Indian Correspondence ofYesod

In Taoist yoga, the sex chakra corresponds to qu gu, which means

"crooked bone." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to the acupuncture

The correspondence of the sex chakra in Sanskrit is Swadhishtana

137
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Transmutation of Sex Energy into Love and Spiritual Energy

Besides the three pairs of complementary opposites, there are two

pairs of polar opposites. The first pair of polar opposites is Kether and
Yesod- spirituality and sexuality. Are they interdependent? The answer is
yes! A strong, healthy sex chakra is needed for spiritual development. Sex
energy can be transmuted into love and spiritual oneness. Sex is sacred.
When it is done properly, it manifests as divine union of two souls, oneness
with their higher souls and, eventually, oneness with all.

----
"Sex is sacred. When it is done properly,
it manifests as divine union of two souls,
oneness with their higher souls and
eventually oneness with all."

There are several schools of thought. One extreme school of thought

has the negative attitude that sex is dirty and must be avoided. With this
kind of attitude, spiritual development is impossible. Why? The reason is
that sex energy is suppressed and inhibited; therefore, it cannot go up to
the upper chakras. Without the transmuted sex energy, the crown chakra-
Kether, the center of illumination and divine oneness, cannot be activated
and cannot function properly.
The other extreme school is the liberal sexual school where sex
energy is just simply wasted. In this case, the sex chakra is depleted to such
an extent that there is hardly enough sex energy left to be transmuted for
utilization by the upper chakras, especially the crown chakra - Kether.

138
Sacred Sex

Fig. 74 First Pair of Polar Opposites

Spirituality and Sexuality
Kether and Yesod

139
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

The practical approach would be the middle path, which is to

consider sex as natural and healthy, and to transmute sex energy. The
transmutation of sex energy can be done solo, without a sex partner. This is
practiced by the Northern Taoist School. On the other hand, the approach
in the Southern Taoist School is done through the sexual act with a partner
of the opposite sex. Sex energy is transmuted during the sexual union,
manifesting as illumination and divine oneness. Both Taoist schools are
equally valid. For a person to practice transmutation of sex energy with
or without a sex partner, it is absolutely necessary that (s)he must have
a healthy and wholesome attitude towards sex. (S)He must consider the
sexual act as natural and sacred. Whether a person should be celibate or
not is his or her own personal choice.

Lord Krishna and Bramacharya

There's an interesting story in the Mahabharata about Lord

Krishna. In the last part of the story, they were looking for rishis who were
bramacharyas or celibates in order to revive a baby who had been killed.
None of the rishis-bramacharyas volunteered to touch the baby because
they might be celibates physically, but not internally. Finally, Lord Krishna
was asked to revive the baby. When he touched the baby, the baby became
alive. Why? Lord Krishna said that when he had sexual union with his
legal wives and his gopis or female lovers, he spiritually became one with
them, and one with Parabrahman, the Supreme God. He is, therefore, a
real Bramacharya. By becoming "spiritually one" with all his beloved, Lord
Krishna became "one with God" and one with all.

140
Sacred Sex

To understand the concept of celibacy or bramacharya, it is important

to understand the root word of bramacharya. The term "bramacharya"
comes from two words: Brahman, which means "Universal Supreme
God," and acharya, which means "one who practices." When the two
words are combined, bramacharya means "one who practices union with
the Universal Supreme God" through the transmutation of sex energy.
Sexual celibacy does not necessarily mean abstaining from sexual activity
and definitely not suppressing sexual desire. The true meaning of sexual
celibacy is the regulation of sexual desire and transmutation of sex energy
to accelerate one's spiritual development and ultimately to achieve divine
oneness. Boddhisattva Padmasambhava, an Avatar, and the founder of
Tibetan Buddhism and Lamaism, is known to have had a spiritual consort.
He is one of the foremost experts in the science and art of transmuting
sex energy to achieve "Divine Union."
To transform the physical sexual act into sacred sex, three important
elements must be present:
1. There must be mutual love and respect for one another;
2. There must be mutual recognition of the divinity within each
other; and
3. The sexual fluid or semen of the man must be preserved and
retained once in a while, and if possible, regularly; it would be
best if this were done most of the time. This technique must be
preferably learned from a reliable source.

The Spiritual Essence of Man

Sexual Problems Encountered in the Spiritual Path

There is an important factor in spiritual practice that is not written

in books but which occurs frequently. During meditation, higher spiritual
energy goes down to the sex chakra - Yesod and basic chakra - Malkuth,
awakening the kundalini energy or the fiery serpent at the base of the
spine. Together with the spiritual energy, the kundalini energy and
some of the sex energy are brought up to the upper chakras and to the
crown chakra, manifesting as divine bliss and eventually as illumination
and divine oneness. When the meditator is sexually inhibited or has a
negative attitude towards sex, the kundalini and sex energy, instead of
going up, will get stuck in the lower chakras. When this occurs, the
person will experience intense sexual excitement, accompanied by a
dramatic change in the breathing pattern. On the other hand, it does
not tend to occur if a person has a positive attitude towards sex. The
solution is to realize that divine energy has come down to the sex and
basic chakras. There is a lot of sex energy that can be transmuted into
spiritual gasoline or spiritual energy. One should utilize this priceless
opportunity to bring up the sex energy and awakened kundalini energy
to the crown chakr-a - Kether. This will eventually manifest as bliss,
illumination and divine oneness.
When a person has a puritanical attitude towards sex, the sex
energy and kundalini energy get stuck in the lower chakras. Since the
sex energy and kundalini energy cannot move up to the upper chakras,
the person may eventually be overwhelmed by the intense sex drive.
Should this happen temporarily or for a prolonged period of time, (s)he
may become sexually promiscuous and overaggressive, with a voracious
and unregulated sexual appetite. Several of the saints were like this
before achieving sainthood. This also explains why some priests, nuns,

142
Sacred Sex

monks, swamis, yogis and other religious people experience intense

sexual desire, which is very difficult to regulate. This may eventually
manifest as sexual scandals.
Religious people are not to be blamed. They are victims of a faulty
religious system, not the culprits. The system requires them to be sexual
celibates, but they are never taught how to transmute sex energy and the
proper attitude towards sex. It is impractical and harmful for them to
practice celibacy and not be taught the science and art of transmuting
sex energy at the same time. They have been sexually and psychologically
deformed because of the unrealistic and impractical demands imposed on
them by the religious system. These so-called sex offenders should not be
treated with harshness and severe criticism, but rather with understanding
and compassion. They should undergo pranic psychotherapy and proper
psychological counseling.
It is easy to criticize and to judge, but it is difficult to understand,
to show compassion, to love and to serve. There is a tendency among
people to focus on a few scandalous events, and to forget and ignore
the tremendous contributions made by churches and other religious
organizations: orphanages, centers for abandoned women, hospitals,
schools and universities, and other centers engaged in charitable and
humanitarian activities. All of these contributions are of tremendous
benefits to society. It is a pity that some people from the media exaggerate
and exploit issues of this nature just to generate wider circulation and
higher sales. Some people tend to be ungrateful and even opportunistic
by taking advantage of the psychological problems of religious people in
exchange for financial considerations.
Churches and religious organizations are not exactly blameless. They
should have not ignored and buried these problems. Instead, they should

143
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

have courageously, compassionately and realistically addressed the issues,

and taken the proper necessary action. Burying one's head in the sand like
an ostrich will not make the problem go away.

How to Transmute Sex Energy

1. Invoke for divine blessings.

2. Connect the tongue to the palate.
3. Scan the crown chakra.
4. Using both hands, sweep the divine energy from the crown chakra
down to the sex chakra while inhaling simultaneously. Imagine
electric violet light going down.
5. Scan the sex chakra.
6. Sweep the sex energy slowly up to the crown chakra and exhale
simultaneously.
7. Steps 3 to 6 consist of one cycle. Repeat the procedure seven times,
ending with the downward sweeping motion towards the sex
chakra.
8. Step one foot towards the back, and slightly bend your body backward.
Be aware of your back and your spine for about 10 seconds. This is to
distribute the excess transmuted sex energy to the back of the body.
9. Move your right footto the right side and lean to the right. Raise your
right arm on shoulder level, with the elbow bent and the arm parallel
to the ground. Be aware of the left brain and the right side of your body
for about 10 seconds. This is to distribute the excess transmuted sex
energy to the left brain and the right side of the body.
10. Stand straight. Move your left foot to the left side and lean to the
left. Raise your left arm on shoulder level, with the elbow bent and

11. Give thanks.
12. Shake the body and do some exercises.

Transmutation of sex energy can be done everyday, especially

if a person does not engage in any sexual activity. This can be done
by adolescents or teenagers to accelerate their mental and spiritual
development. It should not be practiced during menstruation or when a
person is very irritated or angry.

'Do Not Let Us Enter into Temptation . . :

Meditating on Yesod and on the deeper meaning of the phrase, ''And

do not let us enter into temptation, but deliver us from evil," (Matthew
6:13, Lamsa's Translation) facilitates the transmutation of sex energy into
regenerative, loving, creative energy, and divine energy. The transmutation
of sex energy is necessary for one's spiritual development. Sex energy, once
transmuted, provides energy to the upper chakras. It is necessary for the
proper functioning of the brain and the nervous system. Whether one is
celibate or not, the transmutation of sex energy is extremely useful.
It is very important to have a proper attitude towards sex, because
a negative attitude causes the sex energy to get stuck in the sex chakra,
preventing the sex energy from flowing upward to the higher chakras, and
causing psychological and physical health problems.
Sex is natural and wholesome, but it has to be regulated and

152

transmuted into divine union with the higher soul. This can be done
through the "Meditation on The Lord's Prayer." For more information,
read Universal and Kabbalistic Chakra Meditation on the Lord's Prayer by
the author.

The Ninth Commandment

The Yesod - sex chakra corresponds to the ninth commandment,

"You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor" (Exodus 20:16,
Oxford Bible).

The Divine Name ofYesod

The divine name of Yesod is Shaddai El Chai.

Malkuth - Basic chakra

Malkuth in Kabbalah means "kingdom." It corresponds to the basic

chakra, which is located at the base of the spine or coccyx area. The basic
chakra - Malkuth has four petals and contains red and orange pranas. It
also contains a very minute amount of unnoticeable yellow prana. The
red prana from the basic chakra - Malkuth is used for energizing and
strengthening the entire visible physical body.

157
- - - - - - - - - -- - - - -

The Spiritual Essence of Man

The basic chakra - Malkuth is the center of self-preservation or

instinct of self-survival. Persons who are depressed or those with suicidal
inclinations have depleted and underactivated basic chakras. To prevent
a person from committing suicide, activate the basic chakra. If the basic
chakra is big and strong, committing suicide is almost impossible since this
chakra is the center of self-preservation or the instinct of self-survival.
Some people with underactive and depleted basic chakra - Malkuth
tend to be sluggish, impractical and unrealistic. In some severe cases, they
tend to be completely out of touch with physical reality.
The practice of one's profession involves survival. If a person has
problems in finding a job, in work performance, or in business, the
basic chakra - Malkuth should be treated. Persons who, in spite of their
qualifications and their relatively good health, have difficulty in getting a
job, have partially depleted and underactivated basic chakras. There was
a man who, at one point in his life, had mounting financial debts. When
his basic chakra was scanned, it was depleted and underactivated. After
several treatments, his work performance and productivity improved in a
matter of one to two months. Not long after, he was promoted to a higher
position, thereby making it possible for him to earn a higher income
and to solve his financial problems. If the basic chakra - Malkuth is too
overactivated, the condition may manifest as hyperactivity, restlessness or
insomnia. Hyperactive children have overactivated basic chakras. People
with insomnia have overactivated basic chakras.
The basic chakra - Malkuth is not only the center of self-survival,
but it is also the center of dynamic activities. A dynamic executive or
somebody who is successful in business tends to have a highly activated and
energized basic chakra. A person with a small and depleted basic chakra
has a tendency to make plans, but not to implement them. He also tends

!58
Sleeping Beauty and Th e Fiery Serpent

to procrastinate or keep things on hold. The basic chakra- Malkuth needs

to be treated because it is the chakra of action.

Physiological Functions

The basic chakra - Malkuth controls and energizes the muscular

and skeletal system. It also energizes and strengthens the whole physical
body.
The basic chakra- Malkuth controls and energizes the bone marrow;
therefore, it affects the production of the blood and the quality of the
blood produced.
The heart is basically made up of muscles. The basic chakra -
Malkuth, which controls and energizes the muscular system, also affects
the physical heart. Patients with severe heart ailments have malfunctioning
basic chakras. The basic chakra of some heart patients is predominantly
orange and yellow, instead of being predominantly red and orange. This
is an abnormal condition.
Part of the pranic energy of the basic chakra - Malkuth also goes
to the brain; therefore, malfunctioning of the basic chakra - Malkuth may
also seriously affect the brain. Part of the transmuted basic energy is required
for the proper functioning of the brain and the chakras of the head.
Persons with highly activated basic chakras tend to be robust and
healthy, while those with less active basic chakras tend to be fragile and
weak. Elderly people usually have depleted or very depleted basic chakras.
This is why their bodies are weak and become smaller; their spines tend
to curve; the healing of wounds and broken bones tend to be slow; and
they tend to develop arthritis. A healthy basic chakra is a critical factor in
one's youthfulness and health.

159
The Spiritual Essence of Man

The basic chakra - Malkuth is like the root of a tree. If the root is
weak, the tree is weak. Similarly, if the basic chakra is weak, the body is
also very weak. Another term for the basic chakra is "root chakra."
The sole minor chakras and the basic chakra are the major entry
points for ground pranic energy.
In summary, the basic chakra - Malkuth controls, energizes and
strengthens the whole visible physical body:
a) the muscular and skeletal systems
b) the spine
c) production and quality of the blood
d) the adrenal glands
f) the tissues of the body and the internal organs
g) growth rate of cells
h) growth rate of children
i) general vitality
j) body heat
k) also affects the heart and the sex organs
Malfunctioning of the basic chakra - Malkuth may manifest as
arthritis, rheumatism, spinal problems, blood ailments, allergy, slow
healing of wounds, broken bones, growth problems, cancer and leukemia,
low vitality, heart diseases, brain ailments and sexual ailments.

160
Sleeping Beauty and The Fiery Serpent

Chinese and Indian Correspondence of Malkuth

In Taoist yoga, the basic chakra corresponds to chang qiang, which

means "abundance in strength." In Chinese medicine, it corresponds to
the acupuncture point DU(GV) 1.
The Sanskrit term for the basic chakra is "Mooladhara chakra." Its
correspondence in Tamil (Southern India) is Putti kaalam.
The basic chakra, in the Indian tradition, is symbolized by an
elephant. This is why in the Taoist tradition it is called "abundance in
strength."

Second Pair of Polar Opposites: Spirit and Matter

The second pair of polar opposites is Kether and Malkuth- spirit

and matter. The crown chakra- Kether is the entry point of divine energy.
The descent of divine energy is called the "descent of the Holy Spirit." In
the Chinese spiritual tradition, this is called the down pouring of Tian chi.
Tian means "God" while chi means "energy." The basic chakra - Malkuth
corresponds to matter. Located near the base of the spine is the kundalini
energy or Shakti. The kundalini energy is the energy that is responsible
for the manifestation of matter. Without it, the physical body as well as
the physical universe cannot exist. Although the kundalini energy is
concentrated near the base of the spine, its presence is everywhere. For
example, water is found in the lake, but it is pervasive since it exists in the
air as water vapor.
The kundalini energy is called by many names: the "serpent fire,"
"fiery serpent" or the "sacred fire." From this, it is possible to understand
John the Baptist's statement (Matthew 3:11, Oxford Bible), "I baptize you

16 1
The Spiritual Essence of Man

Fig. 86 Second Pair of Polar Opposites

Spirit and Matter
Kether and Malkuth

162
Sleeping Beauty and Th e Fiery Serpent

with water ... but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me .
. . . He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire." The Holy Spirit
symbolizes the divine energy that is coming down. The fire symbolizes the
fiery serpent located near the base of the spine. It is through divine energy
that the dormant, yet powerful, kundalini energy is awakened. However,
it is not a matter of whether it is awakened or not, but rather the degree
of awakening.
The awakening of the fiery serpent is necessary for the emotional,
mental and spiritual development of human beings. It is necessary for
the evolution of the human soul and also of the human body. As stated
earlier in this book, the evolution of the soul must be accompanied by the
evolution of the physical body. The quality of the brain and the nervous
system depends on the awakening of the kundalini energy and its ascent
to the head area. This technology is revealed in Arhatic Yoga. Without the
awakening of the kundalini energy, spiritual development is not possible.
Whether the spiritual practitioner is aware of the existence of the kundalini
energy or not is not relevant. When a person goes into the spiritual path,
the kundalini energy gets partially awakened.

Spiritualized Materialism

The second pair of polar opposites can manifest as balancing

spirituality with materialism. The reader should realize by now that
upon the death of the body, the soul cannot take to the inner world one's
passbooks, bank accounts, properties or any material wealth- not even a
single cent! To have material wealth is important for physical existence.
But you must realize that you are not the body but the soul!

163
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

What spiritual wealth can you bring to the inner world? Material
wealth, when properly utilized, can be used to accelerate spiritual
development, just as the kundalini energy can be used to accelerate spiritual

I ': .. upon the death of the body, the soul

cannot take to the inner world one's
passbooks, bank accounts, properties or
any material wealth - not even a single
cent!"

development. It is important to have the proper attitude that to possess

material wealth entails responsibility to use it properly. Material wealth
can be used to buy books on spiritual development, to attend classes on
yoga, meditation and spiritual discourse. Money can be converted into
good karma or spiritual wealth. How? Money, when donated for charitable
and spiritual purposes, and for building and supporting spiritual centers
or ashrams, will generate lots of good karma or spiritual wealth and will
greatly benefit mankind. Wealth and money may be used to generate more
jobs and to produce products and services that will benefit society. Such
use of material wealth generates good karma and infuses the incarnated
soul with more spiritual light. When used properly, money and wealth do
accelerate the development of the incarnated soul.
The costs of fulfilling real needs such as air, water and food are
minimal. On the other hand, the costs of buying yachts, sports cars and
other luxuries are very expensive. These items are not necessities but only
whims. Wasting money on whims is definitely not a smart thing to do. It
is ridiculous to work so hard and sacrifice one's health just to earn lots of

164
Sleeping Beauty and Th e Fiery Serpent

money, and then waste it on things that are of no importance and no lasting
value. When material wealth is not accompanied by discernment and self-
discipline, it may manifest as alcoholism, drug problems, gambling, broken
family, financial debts and wasting of money on expensive but trivial, if
not worthless, possessions.
Money and wealth can give freedom to a person. He has the
freedom to decide how to use his time and energy. With lots of money,
he can use his time to study spiritual books, to meditate, and to do inner
reflection. He has the opportunity to develop potentialities, manifesting
as mathematical, literary, linguistic, musical, and other skills. He can use
his time and money to do services and help other people. To have lots
of money is good, especially when it is utilized properly. On the other
hand, the masses have very limited wealth and are tied down to their work
from 9 am to 6 pm, Mondays to Fridays. They do not even own their time;
therefore, they do not have the freedom to do what they want, much more
to spiritually develop.

Magnification of Negative Qualities

Another problem encountered in the spiritual path, besides sexual

problems [Chapter Nine], is that the awakening of the kundalini energy
tends to magnify the good and bad qualities of a person. Unless he practices
character building or inner purification thoroughly and sufficiently in
the early stages of his spiritual development, awakening of the kundalini
energy will create a serious problem later as he continues with his spiritual
practice. If a person has any of the following weaknesses - uncontrolled
anger, hatred, pride, greed, tendency to lie and to steal, maliciousness,
ruthlessness, violent tendency, sexual excessiveness, emotional instability-

165
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

these defects will be magnified to a very high degree. Due to the magnifying
property of the kundalini energy, one tends to encounter people in the
spiritual path with noble qualities while simultaneously possessing a serious
character flaw. Therefore, character building or inner purification must be
emphasized and practiced. Otherwise, the disciple will spiritually fall and
may take a long time, if not several incarnations, to recover. This explains
why in ancient times the spiritual guru did not give any meditational
practices to a new spiritual aspirant for several years until his character
had been strengthened.

'For Thine is the Kingdom'

In the Meditation on The Lord's Prayer, the last few phrases state, "For
Thine is the Kingdom, the power and the glory. Forever and ever, Amen."
"For Thine is the Kingdom" corresponds to Malkuth -basic chakra, where
the kundalini fire or the fiery serpent is located. The spiritual energy is
brought down to Malkuth -basic chakra and unites with the fiery serpent.
The awakened kundalini energy is brought up to Kether by the spiritual
energy.
"The power" corresponds to Netzach - spleen chakra. "Glory"
corresponds to Hod - meng mein chakra. "Forever and ever, Amen"
corresponds to Kether- crown chakra. The spiritual energy and kundalini
energy are brought up to the crown chakra, eventually manifesting as
illumination and divine oneness.

166
Sleeping Beauty and The Fiery Serpent

Sleeping Beauty and the Fiery Serpent

The technique on how to awaken the kundalini energy is also known

in Europe through fairy tales. Snow White or Sleeping Beauty corresponds
to the sleeping kundalini energy, which is feminine in quality. Prince
Charming is the spiritual energy coming down, called by Christians as
"the descent of the holy spirit." Prince Charming must give the Sleeping
Princess a kiss to awaken her. Likewise, the spiritual energy must descend
to the base of the spine, and unite with the fiery serpent to awaken it. The
fiery serpent or kundalini energy is brought up by the spiritual energy to
the crown chakra, eventually manifesting as bliss, illumination and divine
oneness. The seven dwarves correspond to the seven chakras or energy
centers. In the New Swan Stone Castle in Bavaria, there is a painting
commissioned by King Ludwig II, showing Siegfried in a golden armor
approaching to kiss the sleeping Brunhilde in order to awaken her.

The Tenth Commandment

The Malkuth- basic chakra corresponds to the tenth commandment

(Exodus 20:17, Oxford Bible), "You shall not covet your neighbor's house;
you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or male or female slave, or ox, or
donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
The Malkuth - basic chakra is the center of the instinct for self-
survival. This sephirah, if unregulated, may manifest as covetousness.

The Divine Name of Malkuth

The divine name of Malkuth is Adonai Malkuth.

The Spiritual Essence of Man

There are supposedly only 11 sephiroth or chakras. But the book

of Revelation mentions the Tree of Life having 12 fruits: "... The tree
of life, which bears twelve manner of fruits ...." (Revelation 22:2). Did
Saint John the Beloved make a mistake in counting? This is very strange
because in traditional kabbalistic teachings there are only 10 sephiroth,
plus one hidden sephirah. However, in Pranic Healing and Arhatic Yoga
there are 11 major chakras within the body, plus the 12th chakra located
outside the body, 12 inches above the head. Therefore, in Pranic Healing
and Arhatic Yoga there are also 12 chakras. This is the meaning of the Tree
of Life bearing 12 fruits.

Ain Soph Aur and the Twelfth Sephirah

Above the Tree of Life are Ain Soph Aurand the 12th sephirah. The
literal meaning of Ain is "no;' Soph is "limit;' and Aur is "light." The literal
translation is, therefore, "no limit light" or "limitless light." Ain Soph Aur
means "Infinite Light." Where does this Infinite Light come from? Above
Ain So ph Aur is A in Soph, which means "no limit" or "infinite." The Infinite
Light comes from what is called "The Infinite," Ain Soph. The Infinite
what? Obviously "The Infinite Source." Ain Soph, therefore, means not
only The Infinite, but The Infinite Source from which The Infinite Light
comes from. Ain Soph comes from Ain, the literal translation for "No" or
"Nothing."

The Incarnated Soul

Ain Soph Aur is actually the incarnated soul. The incarnated soul
is "located in the 12th chakra or the 12th sephirah which is one foot or

170
The Unknown

30.5 centimeters above the head;' as stated by the author in his book
Achieving Oneness with the Higher Soul (Formety known as Meditations for
Soul Realization). The 12th chakra looks like a golden star. Sometimes it is
called the "Soul Star." The Tree of Life- the physical body and the energy
body is actually within the incarnated soul, Ain Soph Aur.
From the 12th chakra, the incarnated soul radiates outward, forming
the "soul aura." The three silver cords and the three permanent seeds, the
different bodies (the physical body, the energy body, the astral body and the
mental body) are infused with the essence of the soul. This is also called the
"Soul Energy." Just as the etheric body interpenetrates the physical body,
and it is inside and outside the physical body, likewise, the essence of the
soul interpenetrates the physical body; at the same time, it is beyond the
physical body. That is why the physical body is actually within the soul, and
not the soul within the physical body. The physical body is like a sponge.
If you put the sponge in a bathtub filled with water, the water is inside
and outside the sponge. In other words, the sponge is inside the water.
The physical body, energy body, astral body and lower mental body are
all inside the incarnated soul. Therefore, it would be accurate to define a
person as "a soul with a physical body," rather than "a physical body with
a soul." To express this more accurately, a person is a soul with a physical
body and other subtle bodies.
Why is the incarnated soul called The Infinite Light? To understand
this, it is necessary to have a certain degree of inner experience or spiritual
insight. You have to remember who you are. An intellectual comprehension
that you are not the body is the first stage in spiritual development. The
second stage is experiencing the body"disappearing." In the third stage, the
yogi experiences himself as a being of divine flame radiating simultaneously
in all directions throughout the inner cosmos. This is why the incarnated
soul is called Ain Soph Aur, The Infinite Light.

Sometimes the consciousness of a spiritual practitioner may keep on

expanding, but it may not even reach the limit or the Ring-pass-not in one
lifetime. There is, of course, a limit to such infinite expansion. Beyond the
Ring-pass-not is darkness. As a yogi continues with his spiritual practice, he
will expand beyond the darkness. Beyond the darkness is greater light.
In the Christian tradition, the 12th chakra and the incarnated soul
are referred to as the Pentecostal Fire. It is also called by Saint Paul as the
"Holy Spirit." There will be more elaboration about the Holy Spirit later.
In the Egyptian tradition the incarnated soul is called Ba. In the

- -· -

Hindu tradition, it is called ]ivatma. ]iv means "embodied" while atma

means "self" or "soul."

The Buddha Nature and the 'Spiritual Fetus'

In Tibetan Buddhism, the incarnated soul is called the "Buddha

nature." Sometimes during meditation, the meditator may notice light
going beyond his head. There he experiences his true Buddha nature as
light radiating in all directions. In Taoism, the incarnated soul is called
the "spiritual fetus." Taoist yoga teaches techniques that will accelerate

175
The Spiritual Essence oifMall

the development of the spiritual fetus or the incarnated soul. This is part
of the inner teachings and practices in Arhatic Yoga. The technique for
developing and experiencing the spiritual fetus or the Buddha nature must
preferably be learned from a living guru. The spiritual technique alone
is not enough. The help and blessings of the spiritual guru are necessary
and of utmost importance. At the moment of writing, there are only a
few accessible living gurus who can impart the proper technique, spiritual
help and blessings. A living guru must be treated with great respect and
gratitude.

The Higher Soul and the Causal Body

The Ain So ph Aur or Infinite Light comes from the higher soul. This
is why the higher soul is called The Infinite Source, the Ain Soph. The
higher soul resides in a vehicle that is called in theosophy as the causal body.
According to inner teachings, and also to Earlyne Chaney, 1 a great disciple,
the development of the causal body is the preoccupation of" Freemasons"
-the building of the great spiritual structure. This structure is not really a
physical structure but an inner structure. The old true Freemasons were
involved not only in building physical structures like the old cathedrals
of Europe, but also in building the great spiritual structure within them,
the causal body which houses the Ain Soph or the higher soul.

Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

Pure Energy with Consciousness and Pure Matter

Where does the higher soul come from? It comes from the divine
spark or the divine spirit- from Ain. Why is the divine spark or the divine
spirit called Ain or Nothingness?
To understand this, let us turn to physics for help. Science tells us that
matter can be converted into energy. This energy actually exists in particle
forms, and these particles actually have mass; therefore, what physics calls
"energy" is not really pure energy. Converting matter into energy simply
means that gross matter is split up into subtle matter or minute particles
of matter, which move at a very fast speed.
On the other hand, what we call matter is not really pure matter. The
closest thing to pure matter is a black hole. Even within the black hole
there is energy. So a black hole is not even pure matter. Imagine that before
the creation there is pure matter devoid of any energy. Imagine too that
coexisting with pure matter is "pure energy with consciousness" which is
literally "nothing." It has no mass; it is not a thing; it is literally nothing or
Ain. When pure energy with consciousness - Ain was combined with pure
matter, the world was created. Pure energy with consciousness is called
Ain. In Tao Te Ching, the fundamental essence of the Tao is Kung, which
also means "Nothingness." The Lord Buddha stated in the Heart Sutra
that the pure essence within man is Kung or Nothingness. According to
Hinduism, man's true essence is Sunya or Nothingness.

178
Th e Unknown

The Incarnated Soul, the Higher Soul and the Divine Spark

To summarize,Ain, which is Nothingness, the divine spirit or divine

spark, projects a portion of itself and manifests as the higher soul - Ain
Soph. The higher soul extends and projects a portion of itself, manifesting
as the incarnated soul - Ain Soph Aur.
In Hinduism, the incarnated soul is called ]ivatma, the higher soul
is Atma, and the divine spark is Sunya or Paramatma. In Tibetan Buddhism
and Mahayana Buddhism, the incarnated soul is called Buddha Nature,
the higher soul is Higher Buddha Nature, and the divine spark is Kung.
In the Egyptian tradition, pure energy with consciousness or the
divine spark is called Adhi which means "the First." Adhi is also a Sanskrit
term, which has the same meaning as the Egyptian Adhi. From the
divine spirit comes the higher soul, which is called Akhua or Aum Akhua
(pronounced as Omakhua). The incarnated soul is called Ba. 2 In Malaysia
and in Indonesia, I AM in its higher form is calledAku. In the Philippines,
the I AM is called Aka. Exodus 3:13-14 tells us that when Moses saw the
burning bush, he asked, "If the people ask me what is your name, what
shall I tell them?" From within the burning bush God answered, "I AM
that I AM."
In the Egyptian mystery tradition, the physical body is called Khat,
the energy body is called Khaibit. In Filipino, kabit means "one that
is attached." It also means "mistress" because a mistress is one who is
"attached" to a married man. Khaibit means "that which is attached to the
physical body;" that which is attached is the energy body. In the Hawaiian
Kahuna tradition, 3 many of the spiritual terms used are, amazingly, exactly

the same as that of the Egyptian inner tradition. The Kahunas also call
the incarnated soul Ea. The higher soul is Aum Akhua in Egyptian and
Omakhua in Kahuna. There are many other similarities. It is amazing
that Egyptian teachings and terminologies have somehow filtered into the
Malay and Hawaiian cultures as well as into other cultures.
In Theosophy, the incarnated soul is called "personality." This term is
used in different schools of psychology and should have not been used as
such because it creates confusion. At the same time, the word "personality"
does not imply immortality. The soul is immortal. The higher soul in
Theosophy is called "ego." This creates another confusion because "ego"
can be used in many ways. It could mean "ego" as used by Freud; it could
also mean pride. That is why readers of Theosophy are confused because
the terms are not chosen properly. The divine spark or Kung is called the
monad, another word that is very difficult to understand. Therefore, in the
study of Theosophy or the works of the Holy Master D. K., every time you
come across the term "personality;' change it to "incarnated soul"; with
the word "ego" change it to the "higher soul"; and with "monad" change
it to the "divine spark."

The Christian Viewpoint

From the Christian viewpoint, Ain Soph Aur is the Holy Spirit; Ain
Soph is the Son; andAin is the Father. Jesus says in John 14:6 (Oxford Bible),
"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me." What does this actually mean? The higher soul is the source
of life. It is called the I AM. From the higher soul, the silver cord of life is
projected down to the incarnated soul and is attached to the physical body.
When the silver cord is disconnected or unplugged from the physical body,
the body dies. This is the meaning of "I AM the life."

180
The Unknown

There are instances when people are in do ubt of what to do in

certain situations. They receive guidance from what is called the "voice
of conscience." This voice of conscience is actually from the higher soul.
It is from the higher so ul that one knows right from wrong. It is from the
I AM that a person receives inner guidance or intuition. The higher soul
is the source of truth. This is the meaning of"I AM the truth."
In the statement, "No one comes to the Father except through me,"
the Father means the divine spark. Nobody passes through the divine
spark without passing through the higher soul or the "I AM."
In Christian terminology, the incarnated soul is called the Holy
Spirit. Saint Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:1 9 teaches, "Do you not know that
your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit ... ?" Since the body is the temple,
you must be the Holy Spirit. Therefore, the incarnated soul corresponds to

the Holy Spirit. The higher soul corresponds to the Son or the I AM. The
divine spark corresponds to the Father. The higher soul is called the Son
because this comes from the divine spark. The higher soul is an extension
of the divine spark.

More About the Holy Spirit

The reader should realize by now that words are like fingers that can
be used to point at different things. The word "Holy Spirit" can be used
m many ways:
1. As used by Saint Paul in 1 Corinthians 6:19, Holy Spirit means
"the incarnated soul."
2. Another usage is "descent of the Holy Spirit." This simply means
the descent of spiritual energy or Tian chi from the higher soul,
and the higher beings and ultimately from God.
3. The term "Holy Spirit" is used in the phrase, "In the name of
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit." Here,
the word "Holy Spirit" is the third aspect of God, the Creative
Intelligence. In the Egyptian tradition, this is called "Horus"
while in the Indian tradition, this is known as "Brahma."

The Supreme Being and the Holy Trinity

How is it possible that the Universal Supreme Being will manifest in

the Holy Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit?
This is one of the mysteries that Saint Augustine tried to unravel. According
to the story, God took pity on Saint Augustine and sent an angel. The angel
appeared as a boy and Saint Augustine asked the young boy, "What are

182
The Unknown

you doing?" The young boy replied, "I will put the ocean into this small
hole." Saint Augustine told the young boy, "That is not possible." The boy
answered, "So it is with your limited mind. Your limited mind cannot
comprehend the infinite mysteries of God." After that, Saint Augustine
was internally pacified.
This book reveals the mysteries of the Holy Trinity. Imagine God as
an invisible light or white light. When the invisible light passes through a
prism, it is differentiated into seven colors. Out of these seven colors are
the three primary colors. When the three primary colors are combined,
the white light is produced.
What is the Holy Trinity? The Universal Supreme God differentiates
itself into three aspects: God the Power, God the Love and God the Creative
Intelligence. In Theosophy, God the Power is called The First Logos; God
the Love is called the Second Logos; and God the Creative Intelligence is
called The Third Logos.
In Hinduism, the Universal Supreme Being is called Parabrahman.
Why do the Indians call the Supreme Being Parabrahman? Because they
don't speak English. The Parabrahman differentiates itself into three
aspects. The Universal Shiva corresponds to God the Power. The nature
of Shiva is perfection. Perfection is achieved through creative destruction
- the destruction of obstacles, the destruction of old forms in order to
create new forms, the destruction of old ideas to make way for new ideas,
the destruction of old consciousness to give way to higher consciousness.
This is why Shiva is called "the Destroyer and the Restorer."
God the Love is called "Universal Vishnu" or "the Heart of God."
From the Heart of God come the avatars, the Buddhas, the boddhisattvas,
the prophets, the messiahs, the Zoroasters, and other great teachers. This
explains why in the Christian tradition, the second aspect of God is called

183
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

"God the Son" because the Great Messiah was incarnated in a male body.
Should the Avatar be incarnated in a female body, the second aspect of
God will be called "God the Daughter."
The third aspect of God is called "Universal Brahma." Brahma is
known as the Creator because it is through creative intelligence that God
created the whole universe.
In the Egyptian tradition, the Universal Supreme Being is called
''Amen;" God the Power is "Osiris;" God the Love is "Isis;" and God the
Creative Intelligence is called "Horus." When the Egyptians want to refer
to the physical sun, they use the word Ra. To specify the spiritual essence of
God within the sun, they used the term Amen Ra. Since God is omnipresent,
the essence of God that is within the sun and the solar system is called
Amen Ra. The Egyptians did not actually worship the physical sun but the
essence of God that resides within the sun and the solar system. This is
the meaning of what Saint Paul said in Acts 17:28 (Oxford Bible), "For in
him we live and move and have our being ..." This is also why in Judaism
the name of the true God is Amen. For this reason, the Jewish people end
their prayer by saying "Amen - In the name of the true God, so be it."
The Christians also end their prayer with Amen. The Muslims end their
prayer with ''Amin" which is another version of Amen. The Hindu word
for Amen is Aum or Om.
During his time, the Lord Jesus preached in Aramaic. According to
George Lamsa, who translated the Bible based on the Eastern text of the
Scriptures, the Aramaic term for God is Alaha, similar to the Islam word for
God which is Allah. There are 99 names of Allah with the different aspects
of the Universal Supreme God: God the Power is called AL-MUQTADIR
-Allah The Powerful; God the Love is known as AL- WADUD- Allah The

The Egyptian Tree of Life

The Egyptian civilization is extremely old. Part of its inner teachings

is the Egyptian Tree of Life. The Egyptian Tree of Life predates the
Kabbalistic Tree of Life. The concept of man as the Inverted Tree of Life is
very ancient and is older than the Egyptian civilization. According to Ra
Un Nefer Amen, author of Tree of Life Meditation System, the first sephirah
is Ausar, the second sephirah is Tehuti, the third sephirah is Seker, the
fourth sephirah is Maat, the fifth sephirah is Herukhuti, the sixth sephirah
is Heru, the seventh sephirah is Het-Heru, the eighth sephirah is Sebek,
the ninth sephirah is Auset and the tenth sephirah is Geb.

Universal God, Solar God and Planetary God

Christian tradition teaches that God is omnipresent. In Buddhism,

according to the Heart Sutra, Kung or Sunya, which is the essence of man
and everything, is everywhere. The nature of Kung is spiritual oneness.
According to inner traditions, another term for the essence of God
within the sun and the solar system is the Solar God or, in Theosophy, the
Solar Logos. The essence of God that is within the planet earth is called
the "Planetary God" or "Planetary Logos." Just as there is Parabrahman
or the Universal Supreme Being, there is also the Solar Brahman and the
Planetary Brahman. Just as there are the Universal Shiva, Universal Vishnu
and Universal Brahma, there are also the Solar Shiva, Solar Vishnu and Solar
Brahma, as well as the Planetary Shiva, Planetary Vishnu and Planetary
Brahma. The great avatars, Buddhas, boddhisattvas, prophets, messiahs,
Zoroasters and other great teachers actually come from the Heart of the
Planetary God- Planetary Vishnu.

The Kabbalistic Cross as Spiritual and Practical Symbols

The Kabbalistic Cross is an encyclopedic symbol that can be used

for spiritual and practical purposes on a daily basis. It may be worn as a
pendant or as a ring to remind a person how to live his life.
1. Kether- the top of the cross. It is a reminder to practice goodness.
It is also a reminder that you are the soul. You are not the body, you are
not the thought, you are not the emotion, and you are not even the mind.
The body is an instrument of the soul. You are actually a soul, a being of
divine light, love and power. You are connected and one with your higher
soul, you are a child of God, one with God, and one with all, regardless of
the capacity of the brain to experience the truth. By simply remembering
these truths three times a day- upon waking up, before lunch and before
sleeping- the size of the spiritual root will increase tremendously. What is
the advantage of having a bigger spiritual root? It increases the degree of
connectedness and oneness with your higher soul. The amount of inner
power and inner guidance that you can draw from your higher soul and
from the higher beings depends on the size of your spiritual root. The
amount of love that you can project to other people is also dependent on
its size. In other words, by having a big spiritual root, one can have access
to inner power, inner guidance, and inner peace and love.
2. Chokmah - the left side of the first horizontal bar. Chokmah
corresponds to wisdom or intuition. Chokmah is a reminder that to
gain wisdom, in the ordinary sense of the word, one must listen to and
learn from elders who have more experience. One must also listen to the
teachings of those who are more spiritually mature, and read books written
by great souls. In the process of listening, one must be receptive and, at

188
The Unknown

the same time, exercise discernment or intelligent evaluation. In serious

matters, one must think carefully before acting. It is very important not
just to depend on your rational mind or intellectual faculty, but also to
draw in inner guidance. To be able to do this, you need to remember that
you are the soul. Practice stillness for a few minutes a day.
3. Binah - the right side of the first horizontal bar. Binah means
understanding. Using intuition is good but you must also develop your
abstract mental faculty. The first horizontal bar corresponds to the first pair
of complementary opposites- balancing the intuition with the intellect. It
reminds us to use our intuition and, at the same time, to use the intellect
to validate whether the ideas that have been derived from the intuition
are correct or not.
11. Daath - the space after the first horizontal bar. Daath means
knowledge and corresponds to the concrete mind. This is to remind us
to practice truthfulness or honesty. In the process, one must do so in a
non-injurious way. Truthfulness or honesty must not be used as an excuse
to verbally hurt or embarrass other people.
Daath also reminds us that success not only depends on having a
good overall plan, but also on working out details meticulously. This is
one of the very important factors to achieve success in life.
4. Chesed - the left side of the second horizontal bar. Chesed
reminds us to practice the virtue of love and harmlessness. It also reminds
us that the key to abundance is to be kind, merciful and generous. Sharing
and giving generate prosperity karma. This is the basis for good luck and
abundance.

189
The Spiritual Essence of Man

5. Gevurah - the right side of the second horizontal bar. It

corresponds to justice, severity and strength. This is to remind us that in all
our dealings with other people, we must be fair and just. It is important not
to oppress other people. To maintain order, there must be justice. Tolerating
oppression or injustice will encourage the emergence of mini-tyrants.
Gevurah reminds us that we must have the courage and the strength to
stand up and fight for justice and what is right. There must be order in a
family, a company and in society. To implement justice, a certain degree
of severity and strength are required.
The second horizontal bar, which corresponds to the second pair of
complementary opposites, reminds us that it's very important to balance
severity with mercy. Too much severity will manifest as cruelty. Leaders who
are excessively severe will be considered as tyrants and will be overthrown.
At the same time, it's necessary to balance mercy with severity and justice
because too much mercy will manifest as chaos.
6. Tiphareth- the space after the second horizontal bar. This is to
remind us that after meditation, excess chi energy must be gathered to the
navel chakra, and stored in the secondary navel chakra. This is to increase
one's internal power.
7. Netzach- the left side of the third horizontal bar. It means
power and victory. It's very important to keep the body clean and healthy,
especially the spleen chakra. Unless the spleen chakra is in a healthy
condition, a person will not have power. Without power, there can be
no success. Netzach, therefore, reminds us to clean and to energize the
front and back spleen chakra regularly. This will ensure power which is
necessary for success.

190
The Unknown

Netzach also reminds us not to be wasteful, and to conserve and

utilize one's power properly by being one-pointed in achieving one's
objective. Victory or success is dependent on single-mindedness and
persistency.
8. Hod- the right side of the third horizontal bar. Hod means glory.
It reminds us that since we all make mistakes, we must learn to forgive
and forget. A person who does not forgive and forget will be filled with
bitterness, anger, hatred and vindictiveness. The aura of an unforgiving
person looks like a cesspool. To restore one's inner splendor, it is necessary
to forgive, to forget and not to be vindictive.
The third horizontal bar, corresponding to the third pair of
complementary opposites, is balancing victory with glory. In situations of
conflict, in general, we must use first the transformative or harmonizing
approach to reduce the level of conflict, rather than the confrontational
approach. The confrontational approach should be used only as a last
resort. A great leader must be a man of peace. Aggression should be used
only when it is absolutely necessary.
9. Yesod - the space after the third horizontal bar. Yesod is the
foundation, corresponding to the sex chakra. The first pair of polar
opposites corresponds to spirituality and sexuality. This is to remind us
that we must have a proper, wholesome attitude towards sex. Sex is good
and it is natural. However, the sex drive must be regulated. It is necessary
to practice transmutation of sex energy regularly to keep the brain sharp
and healthy, and to accelerate spiritual development.
10. Malkuth- The space after Yesod. Malkuth means the physical
world. The second pair of polar opposites, which corresponds to spirit and
matter, is a reminder to balance spirituality with practicality. It is important

191
The Spiritual Essence of Man

to have the right attitude towards money. To have lots of money is good, but
one must not become a slave to money. One must be a master of money.
One must be responsible enough to use money and wealth properly in
order to generate more employment, goods and services. Money must
also be converted to spiritual wealth by donating to charitable institutions
and spiritual centers.

Preparation: Physical Purification 1

The physical body and energy body have to be prepared to receive

a great amount of spiritual energy that will be generated during the
meditation. For those who intend to practice this meditation, the following
will have to be observed:

Proper Diet:
1. Avoid eating pork. Pork is energetically very dirty.
2. Avoid eating fish with no scales such as eel and catfish. They are
also energetically dirty.
3. Meat and fish may be taken in moderation.
4. For advanced disciples practicing higher levels of meditation,
it is necessary to be a vegetarian most of the time.

Unhealthy Practices:
1. Avoid smoking. Smoking dirties the physical body and energy
body. It causes heart problems, hypertension and other
problems.
2. Avoid excessive alcohol intake. A small quantity of alcoholic
drink may be taken. Alcoholism is physically and psychologically
detrimental to a person, and at the same time harmful to one's
family.
3. Addictive or hallucinogenic drugs must be avoided because they
dirty the energy body.

Physical Exercises

It is important to do physical exercises before and after meditation.

Before meditation, it is advisable to do about 5 to 10 minutes of physical
exercises. The purpose is to clean the energy centers and the energy
channels, so that higher energy, generated by the meditation, can easily
flow through your physical and energy bodies with minimal obstruction.
This is important to avoid or minimize pranic congestion, which will
manifest as physical discomfort or problems during the meditation. You
may do any form of exercise that you like: hatha yoga, jogging, aerobics
or whatever. But it is important that you exercise practically every part
of the body.
After meditation, it is important to do more exercises. This is to get
rid of old used-up energy and to release excess energy generated by the
meditation. You may follow the simple exercises prescribed on Chapter
11 of Achieving Oneness with the Higher Soul by the author.

Balancing Breathing Exercise2

After the physical exercises, it is important that you do the 6-3-6-3

alternate breathing or balancing breathing. This breathing technique
alternates inhaling and exhaling between the two nostrils.
Experiments done in India show that when a person does this
technique, he goes into a calm state in a matter of minutes. As a result,
the pulse rate slows down. This is very good for stress reduction. At the
same time, it increases the energy level. If this technique is done for seven
times, the energy level can expand three or more times the size of a room.

2
Mas ter Choa Kok Sui, Achieving Oneness with the Higher Soul, 197 - 199.

195
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

A pranic healer may do the balancing breathing technique before and after
healing several patients.
What are the benefits of practicing the balancing breathing technique?
Normally, one side of the brain has more energy. Likewise, one side of the
body is usually stronger than the other side. The balancing breathing
technique balances the energy level of the right and left sides of the brain,
and that of the right and left sides of the body. It also cleanses and energizes
the whole energy body, including the chakras and the energy channels.
How is 6-3-6-3 balancing breathing done?
1. Curl the tip of your tongue upto your palate and close your
eyes.
2. To control the airflow through your nostrils, use the right middle
finger or index finger to close the left nostril and the right thumb
to close the right nostril.
3. With your left nostril closed, inhale through the right nostril
for six counts.
4. Hold your breath for three counts.
5. Close the right nostril and exhale through the left nostril for six
counts.
6. Hold for three counts.
7. Inhale through the left nostril (where you have just exhaled)
for six counts.
8. Hold for three counts.
9. Close the left nostril and exhale through the right nostril for six
counts.
This is one cycle. Do this for five to seven cycles.

196
Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

When you practice balancing breathing, do not overdo it. It is

advisable to practice for five to seven cycles per session, with a maximum
of three sessions per day: once upon waking up; once before taking lunch;
and once before taking dinner. You have to observe whether your body can
handle the energy. If not, practice the balancing breathing technique for
only two sessions per day: once upon waking up, and once before taking
dinner. In the event that your body still cannot handle the energy, reduce
the practice to one session per day. It is definitely advisable not to do too
many of this breathing technique. The adverse effects may not be seen
immediately, but only after a few days. Overdoing the balancing breathing
may lead to kundalini syndrome which may manifest as adverse physical
and psychological effects. Kundalini syndrome is difficult to treat, unless
one is lucky enough to meet an experienced and powerful pranic healer.

Character-Building: The Five Virtues

More important than physical purification is inner or psychological

purification. How do you practice this? Watch what you think, feel and say.
This is the essence. What comes out of the mouth is more important than
what goes in. If you eat something dirty, the body gets dirty. But remember
that you are not the body. If what comes out of the mind or the mouth is
dirty, it dirties the incarnated soul. There is no point in eating clean food
if what comes out of the mouth is dirty. You have to speak courteously.
You cannot dirty somebody without dirtying yourself. Is it worth saying
or thinking bad things over and over again, and in the process letting your
incarnated soul wallow in mud? 3
Character-building is very important because it is a means to purify

down pouring of divine energy and awakening of the kundalini energy. The
kundalini energy magnifies all the good and bad qualities within a person.
Unless a person undergoes regular and thorough character-building, the
negative qualities will be magnified and the spiritual disciple will be blocked
from further spiritual progress and may seriously retrogress. Character-
building is an absolute necessity.
Character-building involves the development of the five virtues:

b. Verbal
c. Emotional and mental
d. Direct or indirect

Inner Reflection and Firm Resolution4

Spiritual evolution implies a process, and process implies time. It

implies mistakes. Some people in the spiritual path have an oversensitive
conscience. They think that they are the worst people on earth when they
make a small mistake. If you keep on recalling the wrong things you have
done and you keep on criticizing yourself, it will be almost impossible
to correct the mistake or remove the vice. What you meditate on, you
become. What should you do? First, mentally erase the unwholesome event.
Then imagine you are doing, saying and feeling the right thing. Imagine

too that the person involved is reacting in the right way. Why? This is the
power of materialization. What you think repeatedly with certainty will
tend to manifest. Repeated wholesome thoughts and emotions manifest
as wholesome action; repeated wholesome action manifests as virtue. The
same holds true for negative thoughts.
Do inner reflection and firm resolution for about 10 to 15 minutes
everyday before sleeping. In trying to develop spiritually, focus on just
one virtue for two months. When you have completed the practice of the
five virtues, which will last for 10 months, repeat the whole cycle for the
next three years.

Precautions in the Practice of the Meditation5

1. A person with a major physical or psychological ailment or defect

cannot practice this meditation everyday because the condition
will become worse. The practice of Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM
magnifies everything.
2. Pregnant women should not do this meditation because the energy
generated is too strong.
3. It is advisable for terminally ill patients to do this meditation
to prepare themselves for death as an opportunity for spiritual
liberation. Their stay in the physical body will be partially shortened;
therefore, their sufferings will also be shortened.
4. The physical and psychological conditions of each person vary. If
discomforts or adverse effects are experienced, the practitioner is advised
to stop the meditation immediately.

Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

The "Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM" is similar to "Meditation on

the Soul."

1. Physical Exercises and Balancing Breathing Technique.

Do physical exercises for about five to 10 minutes. Then do five to
seven cycles of the 6-3-6-3 balancing breathing technique. This will prepare
the physical body and energy body for the meditation.

2. Face east when you do the meditation.

3. Invocation for Divine Blessings.

Since we are dealing with power that is beyond human control, it
is important to invoke for divine blessings. Close your eyes and sit with
your spine erect. Rest your hands on your lap. You may use the following
invocation:

To the Supreme God,

To my Spiritual Teacher, all the spiritual teachers,
Holy masters, to all the Great Ones,
Holy angels, spiritual helpers,
To my soul, to my divine self,
Thank you for the great blessings,
for illumination, divine oneness,
divine guidance, help and protection.
Thank you for the blessings of abundance,

201
The Spiritual Essence of Man

good health and happiness

In full faith, thank you.
4. Connect the tongue to the palate.
Curl the tip of your tongue up the palate. This completes the
connection between the front and the back channels in the aura, thus
increasing the energy level and its circulation.

5. Affirmation on I AM
Before proceeding with this meditation, it is important to say the
following:

Affirmation on I AM

I AM THAT I AM.
I Am not the body.
I Am not the emotion.
I Am not the thought.
I Am not the mind.
I Am the soul.

I Am a spiritual being of Divine Intelligence,

Divine Love, Divine Power.
I Am one with my higher soul.
I AM THAT I AM.

I Am one with the Divine Spark within me.

I Am a child of God.

202
Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

I Am connected with God.

I Am one with God.
I Am one with all.

6. Locate the seed of consciousness.

Imagine a line passing from the upper tip of your right ear to the
upper tip of your left ear. Imagine also a line passing from between your
eyebrows to the back of your head. The intersecting point of these two cross
lines is where the pineal gland is located, where the seed of consciousness
or the blue pearl is located. This is the approximate point. Be aware of the
area above the tongue, above your palate. Very gently and slowly move
towards the center of your head. Move towards the intersecting point of
these two imaginary lines. Gently locate an area where you will experience
inner peace, inner stillness and divine bliss. Do not use your will. Do not
overconcentrate. Just relax. There is no hurry. Gently explore and locate
this spot. When you have found the right spot, you will automatically
experience inner stillness, inner peace and divine bliss. Take your time.

7. Be aware of the stillness, the peace and the bliss.

With gentle concentration, be aware of this inner peace, stillness
and divine bliss. Continue your meditation. Do not use force. Maintain
your awareness, but be focused at the same time. In the stillness, you will
eventually become one with your higher soul. Do this for a few minutes.

8. Silently chant the Mantra Ehieh.

As you silently chant the mantra EHIEH, be aware of the interval
or rest between the two EHIEHs. At the interval, there is inner stillness,

203
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

inner peace and divine bliss. Be aware of all of them simultaneously.

Silently repeat this for seven times. EHIEH is pronounced as follows: E
as in "elephant:' H as in "h," I as in "inside:' E again as in "elephant:' and
H as in "h."
"E-E-E-H-H ... 1-I-E-E-E-H-H .. .
E-E-E-H-H ... 1-I-E-E-E-H-H .. .
E-E-E-H-H ... I-I-E-E-E-H-H .. .
E-E-E-H-H ... 1-I-E-E-E-H-H .. .
E-E-E-H-H ... I-I-E-E-E-H-H . . .
E-E-E-H-H ... I-I-E-E-E-H-H .. .
E-E-E-H-H ... I-I-E-E-E-H-H ... "

9. Be aware of the inner stillness.

Stop chanting the mantra EHIEH. Continue being aware of the inner
stillness, inner peace and divine bliss, and just simply let go. Do this for
a few minutes. When you meditate on the stillness, you will eventually
achieve yoga- oneness with the higher soul.

10. Release excess energy by blessing.

Gently return to your body and move your fingers. After the
meditation, raise your hands with palms facing outward. Imagine a small
earth in front of you. Release the excess energy by blessing the entire earth
and silently saying:

Let the entire earth be blessed

with divine light, divine love, divine power.
Let every person, every being be blessed
with happiness, good health, success,
abundance, and illumination.
Blessings be to all.

204
Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

11. Release excess energy by rooting.

Gently be aware of your feet or the base of your spine. Gently
bless the earth either through your feet or through the base of your spine.
Imagine light going down three meters or 10 feet deep into the earth. Bless
the earth and silently say:

Let Mother Earth be blessed with

divine light, love and power.
Let Mother Earth be revitalized and regenerated.
Blessings be to beloved Mother Earth.
I am connected to Mother Earth.
I am rooted to Mother Earth.

It is important to be rooted to Mother Earth to maintain one's

practicality.

12. Apply distributive sweeping.

After doing this meditation, you must sweep the excess energy from
the head area so your body does not get sick.
a) Sweep the excess energy with both hands, from the crown to
the front of the head, down to the trunk of your body, to your
right leg and your left leg. Do this seven times.
b) Using your right hand, sweep the excess energy from the crown
to the left side of your head, down to your left arm. Next, using
your left hand, sweep the excess energy from the crown to the
right side of your head, down to your right arm. Do this seven
times.

205
Th e Spiritual Essence of Man

c) Visualize the back of your body and sweep the excess energy
from the crown to the back of the head, down to the spine. Do
this seven times.
d) If your head is still congested, do more distributive sweeping.

13. Give thanks.

Close the meditation with the following thanksgiving prayer.

To the Supreme God,

To my Spiritual Teacher,
all the spiritual teachers,
Holy masters, to all the Great Ones,
Holy angels, spiritual helpers,
To my soul, to my divine self,
Thank you for the great blessings,
In full faith, thank you.

Gently open your eyes. Relax and smile.

14. Further release of excess energy through more physical exercises and
massagmg.
It is important to shake the body and do more physical exercises after
the meditation. It is also advisable to massage the different parts of the body,
especially the areas of the liver and kidneys. This is to further release the excess
energy, expel used-up energy from the body, and thus cleanse and strengthen
the body. This will also facilitate the assimilation of the fresh pranic and
spiritual energies, thereby enhancing the beauty and health of the practitioner.
Massaging and exercising after meditation also reduce the possibility of pranic
congestion in certain parts of the body, which may lead to illness.

206
Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM

15. Duration of the Meditation

Do the Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM once a day for about 10 to 15
minutes only. Do not overdo it. Should the spiritual disciple experience
certain physical and/or psychological problems, he is advised to rest for a
few days or weeks until the condition normalizes.

Living Spiritual Master

The Kabbalistic Meditation on I AM has been written down in such a

manner that just by following the instructions carefully a person can do it
by himself. However, it is still best to learn it from a living spiritual master
in order to clarify certain matters that may not be clearly understood,
and to receive blessings for more spiritual guidance, help, protection and
energy.
Spiritual technology in the form of meditational techniques is not
enough. The need for the blessings of the spiritual master is an absolute
necessity to accelerate the development of the disciple.
