If I were an inventor...

“HeadProtech”

a. What is your invention? What does it do?
I have decided to come up with an invention that is a combination of a neck pillow and an
airbag equipped in cars. I call this “HeadProtech” which aims to reduce life-threatening
injuries sustained when a person suddenly falls or collapses. It could be among the wearable
technology which is specifically made for the elderly and those with histories of falls and
sudden collapse. It mainly functions as a head protection which can deploy before an
individual hits the ground (approximately 1 meter from the ground) to cushion and protect
the head from impact. As soon as it detects that it has hit the ground, it will slowly
adjust/deflate just enough to allow the neck to rest in a natural position. It is also capable of
notifying the emergency contact person as well as the nearest hospital and the emergency
responders once this occurs.

b. How is your invention similar to or different from existing tools or technologies

in terms of function and features?

My invention has the features and functions similar to an inflatable neck pillow, airbag in
cars, and the automatic crash notification (ACN) system.

Inflatable Neck Pillow

- allows for support on all sides of the head which ensures that the neck rests comfortably in
a natural position.

In “HeadProtech”: its shape is similar to a u-shaped neck pillow which can be placed
over the shoulders. This can be concealed as it is deflated when worn and may also
come in different colors that may match the clothes.

Airbag in cars
-restraining device that is designed to inflate rapidly during an automobile collision. This
prevents the driver and passenger from hitting the steering wheel or window. It is designed
to only inflate during moderate to severe frontal crashes.
-it inflates as soon as the car starts to slow down in an accident and deflates as soon as the
head presses against it. In this manner, the head would not just bounce back off it, which
minimizes further harm.

In “HeadProtech”: It inflates upwards and extends towards the forehead to protect

the back of the head and the forehead about 1 meter before the person hits the
ground. It will also slowly adjust/deflate as soon as it detects that it has hit the
ground, just enough that the neck would not be in an awkward position.

Automatic Crash Notification System

- a safety technology that enables immediate notification of emergency responders when a
car crash has occurred and its location.
-this system decreases the time it takes for emergency medical services to arrive at a crash
scene and transport the victims to a hospital. In this way more lives can be saved and the
severity of injuries may be reduced as medical attention is immediately given.
 In “HeadProtech” As soon as “ProtectH” is deployed, an emergency notification will
be sent to the emergency contact person, including the emergency responders and
nearest hospital containing the exact location of the person and the time it
happened.

c. Why is there a need for this invention? How will this invention make the world
a better to place to live in?

We have heard stories about people, mostly elderlies, who died or whose condition became
complicated when they slipped and fell, or suddenly collapsed and hit their head. This
invention will help reduce life-threatening injuries, the number of accidents/instances
associated with falls, and minimize sudden death, thus allowing us to spend more time with
our loved ones. This is also useful for those who are living alone, including those who would
prefer to visit places where help might not be available right away. This may also give ideas
to other inventors to improve or invent technologies similar to “HeadProtech” that may
address other needs of the society.
