Before we will start with the lesson let me test your prior knowledge about mixture through KWL Activity . K means
What you Know, W means What you Want to Know and L means What I Have Learned. You will only fill out the
first two columns. The third column will be filled out after the lesson.
Today, we are going to have an activity on what happens to solid materials when mixed with other solid materials.
We will do it explicitly, meaning we will follow the “I Do” We Do and You Do Steps”
What are the things that you must remember while watching or observing what the teacher is doing?
1. Watch and listen carefully.
2. Take down important details.
3. Be ready to answer some questions.
Let’s begin:
“ I Do”
What do I have here on the table? ( fried rice, sliced egg, sliced carrots, salt, sliced hotdog)
Let’s start:
Watch and learn!
Procedure:
Guide questions:
.What did I do?
. What was formed?
. Describe the mixture.
. Can you still see the green peas, carrots, and the rice?
. Does the combination appear uniform or non – uniform?
. What do you think is this mixture called?
. What happens to the color of the solid materials? Did it change or it remain
the same?
. How about the size of the solid material, did it change or it remain the same?
. Why did the color, size and shape of the solid material remain the same?
“We Do”
Let’s have another examples of non – uniform mixtures. But I need somebody here to help me to prepare the
combination. Class , where do we usually see these combinations?
A- onion, garlic, pepper ( for cooking adobo)
B- sand and gravel ( for construction)
C- clips , thumb tacks, staple wires ( for school supplies)
Procedure:
1. Get the onion, and put it in a mixing bowl.
2. Then add the garlic and pepper into it.

formed? Does the combination appear uniform or non – uniform? ? What kind of mixture is this? How would you
describe a non- uniform mixture? What happens to the color, size and shape of the solid materials when mixed?
