IV. PROCEDURES
A. Introduction
Look and study the picture.

1. Can you identify the ingredients that are needed to bake bread? What do you do in
order to make bread? How do you call this combination of different substances?

2. Have you ever submitted yourself for a blood test? What do you see after blood extraction?
Just by looking, do you think you can identify the components of blood?

B. Development Learning Task 1: Comparing Homogeneous and Heterogeneous Mixture

Problem: How are mixtures classified?

What you need: different kinds of seeds or nuts, salt, water, forceps, spoons, 2 glass jars
What you need to do:
1. Place the different kinds of seeds in a jar. Mix them.

2. Label the jar as container A.

3. Fill the other glass with water.

4. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of salt in the water. Mix the two substances evenly until the salt have completely
dissolved.

5. Label the glass jar as container B.

What have you found out:

Republic of thePhilippines

1. What kind of mixture did you form when you mixed the different seeds in the container?

2. Can you still recognize the components of mixture? Why?

3. What type of mixture did you form when you mixed salt and water?

4. Can you still recognize salt from water? Prove you answer.

5. What type of mixture is in container A? in container B?

C. Engagement Learning Task 2: Study the given sample materials. Identify the type of mixtures for each sample. Write your
answer in your show me board.

1. coffee and cream dissolved in water

2. milk solution
3. mixed toys in the room
4. paper clips and pins
5. soy sauce
6. halo-halo
7. gravel and sand
8. buco salad
9. juice drinks
10. iodized salt and pepper

Learning Task 3: Using kahoot application, identify if the given characteristics of mixtures is homogeneous or
heterogeneous mixture.
1. Components can be separated by physical means.
2. The additive component is so finely dispersed in the main ingredient such that it can’t be seen.
3. Particles are uniformly distributed.
4. The substances are identified in different phases.

5. Particles are non-uniformly distributed.

D. Assimilation Learning Task 4 : Open the link given, read and analyze the question and choose the letter of the best answer.
1. Mixed nuts, halo-halo and buko salad are examples of what kind of mixture?
A. gas B. heterogeneous C. homogeneous D. liquid
2. What do you call the combination of two or more substances present in varied proportion where each
materials are distinct and visibly seen by naked eyes?
A. compound B. cream C. mixture. D. water
3. Which of the following is an example of heterogeneous mixture?
A. corn oil B. water and salt C. water and sand D. water and sugar
For numbers 4-5, choose from the given choices below:
I. Air II. Fruit salad III. Salt solution IV. Pizza
4. Which of the following material(s) are homogenous mixture(s)?
A. I and II B. I only C. I and II. D. II and IV
5. Which of the following material(s) are heterogenous mixture(s)?
A. I and II B. I only C. I and III D. II and IV
6. Your mother prepared pinakbet for lunch. How will you describe its ingredients?
a. It is a homogeneous mixture because it was evenly mixed.
b. It is a heterogeneous mixture because its components are visible.
c. It is a heterogeneous mixture because of its uniformity.
d. It is a homogeneous mixture because it is not uniform.
7. A vinegar mixed with soy sauce is a homogeneous mixture because:
a. you can easily identify its components
b. you can only see the dark color of soy sauce
c. the mixture appears one or uniform
d. the mixtures did not mix well
8.Mixtures can be homogenous or heterogeneous. A sachet of 3 in 1 coffee contains coffee, sugar and
powdered cream. Thus, making it heterogeneous. When hot water is being poured into
the 3 in 1 mixture, it turned homogeneous. What idea supports the said occurrence?
a. The components of mixtures when dissolve in hot water cannot be identified.
b. The components of mixtures mixed with hot water taste sweet.

9. What is the best description of a heterogeneous mixture?
a. It could break down easily.
b. We could easily see the components.
c. We could not easily see the components.
d. It could transfer the particles to another place
10. Why does the salt disappear when mixed with water?
a. The grains of salt are absorbed by the water
b. The salt settles at the bottom
c. The salt particles spread evenly in the water
d. The grains of salt become very tiny.
