The Difference between "naturalism" in Greek art and "realism" of Roman art and
Cultural differences,
The term realism concern with the true-life style of art which focus on observable facts
and social realities, however, realism not focus on aesthetics and ideals in art. So, the artist of
realism often paints in a naturalistic way but the naturalism is not their main goal. It is admitted
fact that the Roman art is largely depend on the Greek.

But with the passage of time, Romans developed more realistic approach to their art. In
the arcade period, Greek artist start statue building with their dresses designs and this was the
first time in the history, the black figures wear style introduced. It was the classical period of the
Greek art. Athens and Sparta were two power dogs in different states of Greek. They are good
with their armories and arsenal.

They were attacked by Persians in 480 BC and that time they together defend the invader.
After that war, Athens start the new era with golden age in art. Their leader order to built the
temple with new art keeping in view more idealistic and realistic. They start human body statue
with geometrical and naturalistic way with more emphasis on mass.

Greek artists discovered the average height of male was 6 ½ to 7 heads. In the Hellenistic
age of Greek, artists start building more emotional and actional statues in their art. In 214 BC,
the Roman took control on Greek, they were inspired by their art and start copied them. They
made statues, painting and architect. The Roman were more interested in realism instead of
naturalism. They used the real statues for their political agenda. Roman artist developed the
Greek art to more idealistic and natural. They convert the naturalism of Greek to realism of
Roman art.
