POWERPOINT PRESENTATION I

PREPARATION

 Set of slides - make a tentative title for each

 No more than one slide for each min

 Allow time for questions and discussion - fewer than one slide per
minute

 Any message can be made any length

 Lousy impression on an audience - a presentation that is too long for

the time allowed

1
GOOD IMPRESSION

 A talk that is

 Short

 Emphasizes what is important (the take-aways)

 Is well organized

 Allows time for questions and discussion.

PLANNING SLIDES

 Complete the slides that initially were given only a title

 best slides - 3 to 5 bullets

 Main subtopics – no more than 1 sentence attached

 Slide has more than about 40 or 50 words – too detailed.

 Should contain only the basic ideas and outline.

 Elaborating while you speak

2
LAYOUT

 Size of letters must be large enough

 The minimum letter size is a ¼ inch

 Even ½ inches may be necessary for larger rooms

 Layout of material on your slides is

 Logical

 Balanced

 interesting

 Colour is generally unnecessary

TIPS

 Never, ever, read what is on your slides to your audience.

 The information on the slides is not there for you to read.

 Its purpose is to provide an outline (only) for both of you and your
audience to follow.

 Your speaking will collaborate on the brief points made on the slides.

3
EXERCISE

 You are required to make a 5mins powerpoint presentation on

‘Sustainable Manufacturing’. What are the 2 main take-aways you
would choose?

 Work out the titles for a total of 5 slides!
