Running Header: The Creation of a Website Using Google Sites
Website Choice
This is the first website that I have ever created, so I am totally new to this experience. I
consulted with my program mentor Shannon Rogers about which program to use as I am a
complete layman on this topic. She gave me several choices to pick from including WIX,
Squarespace, etc. After some discussion about the positives and negatives components of these
website, I took Shannon’s recommendation and went with Google Sites. I felt that this would be
the best fit for creating a website with my knowledge base as well as high marks that my mentor
gave it.
2. After signing into my account, I went to the top right corner of google and went into my
google drive.
5. I went to the right side of the page, to Pages and created the four pages for my
assignment.
6. The four pages are Home, Print Instructional Materials, Graphic Instructional Materials,
7. Back at the top right of the page I then click themes. I chose a theme that I felt best fit
my idea for the site. My site will be a collection of links, materials that will help students
8. The home page also has a (2) photos of my classroom. I choose this photo because I teach
math and it is a place where students can relate to and know that they are about to take on
the great adventure of learning. I used an image editing feature to crop my images to they
would fit, but Google Site was friendly in how easy it was to upload the images.
9. Under the pictures, I added a caption of what users will expect to find on my website.
10. One the home page, I added a link to a YouTube video that will give visitors an example
11. I also added a slide for sources so visitors could also see where my collection of sites
came from.
12. I now went to my other slide that you can click from the main page in the upper right
side. These all had the same themes and I added that they are under construction and will
be completed soon.
13. I clicked the preview page on the upper right side to see how the page would look
published. This is my first time publishing the page, so I was nervous. I think everything
went well. I saved my page, paper, and saved my webpage as PDF files as well before
submitting my work.
