Surbiton will once again be host to the world’s exclusive Suburban Ski event
and see skiers strap on blocks of ice to their feet and ski down St Mark’s Hill for charity.

The annual Ski Sunday and Seething Luge event will take place on 19th of October from
11am to 1pm. Teams of three will compete to try and break the official World Record for
Team Suburban Skiing currently set at 35.44 seconds.

Individuals will also have the opportunity to ski down the course and become the holder of
the official World Record for Individual Suburban Skiing currently set at 9.97 seconds.

The event organised by the local community group State of Seething not only offers a fun
activity to local residents but also raises money for two local charities, Creative Youth and
Shooting Star Chase Children’s Hospice.

Originator of the event, Robin Hutchison, said: “It’s one of the highlights of the Surbiton year
when people gather for this fun community event and strap ice to their feet to ski down St
Mark’s Hill or just cheer the competitors on. It’s fabulous how generous people are helping to
raise money for great charities.”

Each team and individual will receive a sponsorship form and is encouraged to ask friends,
family and colleagues to sponsor them for this world record breaking event.

Prizes will be up for grabs for the winning teams and individuals including a ski trip for two to
Austria donated by Surbiton’s Crystal Ski Holidays.

Suburban ski offers a truly unique challenge where skiing or ice skating skills will offer no
advantage to participants. With ice blocks strapped to their feet the competitors new to the
world’s only Suburban Ski event will discover a completely new and thrilling experience.

Those not confident enough to strap on their ice skies will have a chance to slide down the
sloop in the comfort and safety of a bath. This year organisers hope to introduce “the bidet of
fear” to the usual festivities.
Straight after the skiing the King’s Soup will take place in Claremont Gardens from
1.30pm to 4.30pm where everyone taking part is invited to help prepare, cook and serve the
community feast.

Participants are asked to contribute a leek or potato if they can but all are welcome. A charity
bar as well as entertainment will be provided.

Last year the community raised£2,500 for charity and organisers hope to make this year’s Ski
Sunday and King’s Soup even bigger and better.
