INTRODUCTION:

Overall plan of rotation of all students in a particular educational institution,


showing the placement of the students belonging to totalprogramme ,includes both
theory and practice denoting the study block, partial block, placement of student in
clinical blocks, team nursing, examinations, vacation, co-curricular activities etc

DEFINITION:

Master rotation plan is an overall plan which shows rotation of all the students
in a particular educational institution.(Nurses of India- Journal).Master rotation
plan denotes duration of the placement that includes theoretical block, partial block
(Half clinical, half theory block) and clinical block.- (Nurses of India-Journal)

PURPOSES OF MASTER ROTATATION PLAN:

 Availability of an advance plan before implementation of curricular


activities during an academic year for the entire programme.
 All concerned are aware of the placement of students in clinical fields.
 Coordination becomes more effective when theory, practice correlates, &
integrity exists.
 Helps the students & teachers to prepare themselves for working in the
areas.
 Any modifications are required based on situations concerned,
collaborations between the faculty & service staff can be made for smooth
running of organizational activities, & meeting the objectives of educational
programme
 Assessment of the curricular programme is more effective.

PRINCIPLES FOLLOWED

 Plan in accordance with the concerned curriculum plan/syllabus for the


entire course/ program
 Plan in advance for all students in all years of program.
 Plan the activities by following maxims of teaching.
 Select areas that can provide expected learning experiences.
 Acquint the clinical supervisor with clincal obejctives & rotation plan.
 Provide each clinical experience of same duration to all the students.
 Rotate each student through each learning experience or block.

CLINICAL ROTATION PLAN

DEFINITION & MEANING

In nursing education clinical rotation refers to "regular, successive & recurrent


posting of various groups of nursing student belonging to different classes in
specific nursing fields i.e. OPD's, speciality, wards,OT, delievery room, clinics,
community health fields- clinics, out reach centers, subcenters, health centers,
schools etc.

FACTORS CONSIDERED

The objectives of the course have to be clearly stated.

 Number of students in each class.


 Number & size of dept. teaching units, or wards where student should be
given opportunity for practicing clinical skills/ clinical experience.
 The duration of clinical experience in each area as per INC &
university/Board norms.
 The number of teaching faculty available for clinical supervision.
 Adhere to rotation plan.

BASIC PRINCIPLES

 The clinical rotation plan must be in accordance with the total curriculum
plan.
 It has to be prepared in advance.
 Theoritical instructions should precede as closely as possible with clinical
experinece.
 The teacher & student ratio will be 1:4 or as prescribed by INC.
 Select the type of learning experience from simple to complex.
 Clinical supervisor must be familiar with the rotation plan.
 Each student should get all the experience on rotation wise.
 All student should enter & leave the clinical area at the same time & they
should complete the assignment in time.
FACULTY ROLE IN CLINICAL POSTING

 The teacher has to prepare objectives for clincal experience.


 Based on objectives, clinical experience has to be planned in advance to
provide specific planned learning experiences
 If necessary for some of the topics provide spot clinical teaching & such
topic has to be repeated to each group of student as they rotate.
 Plan the course outline & so that theory can be correlated to practice.
 Get permission from clinical authority.
 Ensure that each student is aware of the objectives & assignments & criteria
for evaluation.
 Place & guide the student to get required clinical experience.
 Orient the student to the clinical area, ward staff, etc. where they are posted.
 Participate in teaching, supervision, & evaluation of students in the ward.
 Arrange ward teaching, ward discussions & case presentation.
 Help the students for effective charting of records & reports.

CONCLUSION:

Master rotation plan provides a blue print of the whole plan for academic year.
The teacher will know exactly where the students are and how far the students are
learning and getting the experiences the require.
