CLP Leadership Statements

Fall 2020
Noah Cavendish
Leadership is the process of humbling yourself before the needs of your community and influencing
others through service, truthfulness, and love; it is done without expectation of personal gain, but
solely to produce fruitfulness within a community in pursuit of a greater mission.

Chris Craig
Leadership is accepting where others are, acknowledging where you are, and meeting in the middle
to accomplish some good. It will be hard, but nothing good is gained from sitting around.

Josh DeKlotz
Leadership is pure dedication to the growth, wellbeing, and success of others. It is having the courage
to be vulnerable, to trust yourself, and to place your trust in the hearts and minds of others. It is
having the will to change culture, to say “hell no!” to hegemony, and to intentionally craft
environments in which others can reach their fullest potential. It is a curious and unending thirst for
justice. It means calling people in and calling hatred out. It is faith in the goodness of people and a
hopeful vision for the future. Leadership is service with conviction.

Patrick Donoghue
Leadership is having faith in yourself to take on new experiences, serving in authentic communities,
communicating the importance of all people, and fully living into environments of home.

Scott Flintoff
Leadership is not being afraid to stand up for what you believe is right.

Zach Gerhardt
Leadership is listening closely, empowering those around you, and drawing a clear,
adjustable roadmap from goal to reality.

Morgan Graves
Leadership is seeing your own strengths and weaknesses and working with others to make something
greater than yourself. It is simultaneously caring for others while prioritizing a goal and promoting the
betterment of the collective.

Rachel Haas
Leadership is on the peripheral, leadership is communicating conviction for the common good while
habitually using the tools of positive influence to deliver change.
At its core, leadership is service.
Marlin Jones
Leadership is galvanizing others - through collaborative processes - toward a shared vision, while
always centering justice and equity in whatever work you are doing.

Brendan King
Leadership is enabling others to tackle the everyday complex struggles of life by accompanying them
on a shared journey. It thrives in connection, comradery, and courage.

Bryce Kreiser
Leadership is caring for yourself just enough to maximize your capacity to look out for others. It is
finding both the courage to stand out, and the humility to fit in. It is balancing satisfaction with what
is real with vision and excitement for what is ideal.

Michael Larson
Leadership is all about relationships.

Leila Lewis
Leadership is bringing safety with you everywhere you go. Leadership is walking in a room and
making the people there feel safe enough to be a little more themselves than before. Leaders are
people so deeply convicted in who they are that their very presence makes it safe for others to be
who they are too. That’s really all- leadership is creating safety.

Sophie Marks
Leadership is having the courage to be yourself, loving yourself, and loving others.

Sam McEwan
Leadership is using your platform and position to elevate the voices of others, specifically members
that aren't often welcomed to the table.

Isaac Pacor
Leadership is an opening up to the self and world in order to understand. It is not showing others
what to do, but rather creating the environment for people to be heard and empowered, challenges
to be identified, and collective action to be formulated. Leadership is gentle.

Garrett Pattee
Leadership is helping others realize their true potential. Using empathy and compassion to relate to
others, a leader puts others before him/her. One must remain humble, and confident in times of both
great success and stress.

Max Ramos
Leadership is the ability to inspire others and being able to turn everything into learning opportunity.
Grace Rogers
Leadership is being attuned to what the present moment is asking to become, offering the openness
and action that is necessary to create new form.

Helen Roosevelt
Leadership is resilience.

Abby Serbousek
Leadership is a role that is bigger than just a single person; it requires commitment and compassion
from all involved to work adaptively towards change and improvement.

Kalika Singh
Leadership is understanding what makes you unique, and learning how to make it a beacon of hope
towards others.

Ellie Smith
Leadership is investing in the development of yourself and others in order to reach goals that benefit
the common good.

Caroline Sonnen
Leadership is about positively influencing a life and ultimately the world.

Kam Stewart
Leadership is resiliency even in the darkest times. Leadership is that slither of hope even when you’re
feeling broken. Leadership is adjusting the thermostat until you can sleep peacefully.

Paulina Thurmann
Leadership is manifesting your inner constitution so strongly and so passionately that it radiates
outward and becomes contagious.

Emma Ulring
Leadership is the ability to wear someone else’s shoes, take a walk in them, and finish the journey with
a greater understanding of that person based on the sights and sounds gathered along the way.

Kalleigh Wagner
Leadership is a quiet confidence and sacrifice of self, the small voice in your heart that speaks the
truth and inspires others.
