BRIGADA ESKWELA SUCCESS STORY

Molugan Central School

“Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan”, this year’s Brigada Eskwela

Theme that advocates on the spirit of volunteerism among all aspects in the
society; parents, stakeholders, GU, private individuals etc. and generous
Samaritans in the community. The purpose is making the school ready for the
coming opening of classes and motivates learners to really come on the first day
in school.

Molugan Central School, being an institution that is responsible in molding the

learners into a responsible individual in the society, we tapped different
organizations, stakeholders, private persons and public servants in helping us
doing different activities in making the school a very conducive for learning
specially on the first day of school. The school personnel cannot do it alone, the
MOOE, PTA and school funds cannot suffice all the financial needs for school
maintenance and improvements. Thus; we need volunteers to do this for our
learners. All the activities is anchored from DepED Memorandum No. 40. series of
2017, engaging everyone to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring
that everything is set off for the coming opening of classes.

MCS started Brigada Eskwela by a Pre implementation Phase; The activities are
the following:
1. PRE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

a. Assessment of Physical Facilities and maintenance needs of the

school
b. Organization of Brigada Eskwela Committees
c. Advocacy (GPTA Meetings, announcements) and social marketing
(FB)
d. Resource mobilization
e. Firming up on the planned activities for BE
f. Motorcade around the community as advanced Information drive

This phase is a very important stage for refining and

strengthening all the planned activities, I

considered this as a major activity of the whole school year. I and the organized
Dimension Leaders (SBM) in the School collaboratively do it. We have different
assignments, assigned stakeholders and organizations to be tapped during the
implementation and specific day/s for implementation. We did it to avoid
overlapping of work and stakeholders to handle. Advocacy, advanced
announcements and social media information was also assigned to a specific
group. Me and the Brigada Eskwela Coordinator do the constant monitoring and
giving reminders to every one of the coming event. We do it with our Messenger
page and cell phone texts. The Barangay Officials helped the school through
advanced advocacy and information by having a motorcade around the
community, encouraging and inviting people to help and extending support to El
Salvador City Central School. Aside from that, I conducted short meetings even in
summer to speak out on the different plans and activities in BE and the opening of
classes. The result was satisfactory since all teachers and PTA officials were
present during the said meetings.

The Division of El Salvador City formally launched BRIGADA ESKWELA 2020 at

San Francisco De Asis Elementary School and San Francisco De Asis National
High School. The kick off Ceremony was done a week before the actual brigade
Eskwela. I was there during the occasion with the School’s Brigada Eskwela
Coordinator, Dimension Leaders, stakeholders and our Barangay Officials. It was
a heart-warming activity witnessing everyone committing for support and promise
for help on the coming Brigada Eskwela Activity. It serve us as a guide also of our
own implementation in the school.

May 20, 2020, Our own Brigada Eskwela in ECCS started with

everyone of the purpose on this biggest activity of the year. Few reminders on the
conduct of different activities were also tackled, like: no burning of garbage. I can
see all the excitement of the stakeholders who were assigned on the first day. The
Dimension leaders and members of the day were so busy in instructing and guiding
on the specific work that was assigned and to be done on that day. Many came to
help and support though it was hot and warm, I can hear laughters and saw smiling
faces of the stakeholders. They told me, it’s OK for them to work and sacrifice for
their children. The Veterinary Team was also with us to give injection to pets
roaming around the school vicinity, so that the spread of rabies can be avoided
and making the learners safety. According to our vets, An ounce of prevention is
always better than cure.

Aside from doing the Brigada Eskwela Activities, we also launched the “BASA NI
ELSA” Project. A one week summer reading camp for all the learners in ECCS,
we even invited other campers from private and other nearby schools who wanted
to join the fun ,excitement and learning planned for them. Many learners came
with their parents and guardians.

May 21, 2020. The second day of ECCS Brigada Eskwela. Like the first day, many
came to help and support the different activities. The City’s Dental Team was also
very generous in helping the school children for dental problems. The team was
spearheaded by DR. MIRABEL TANGCALAGAN AND THE CITY DENTIST DR.
CHU. Many learners were benefited with free tooth/teeth extractions and cleaning.
The retirees group and senior citizens also extended help by giving us cash
donations for snacks and meals for laborers coming from the different
organizations, they were sent to do some repainting and diggings for drainage.
The 4P’s beneficiaries was accompanied by their city link Mr. Bajao for their clean-
up activities in the school. Dr. Edith L. Ortiga and Mrs. Lita Bace our Regional
FTAD came to visit, evaluate and give suggestions for the success of BE in our
school. Indeed, we ended up the second day with smiles of satisfaction in our
faces.

May 22, 2020. The third day of BE 2020. This day was assigned to the Barangay
officials, SK officials, BJMP and Air Force. They need to do some repairs
for the school WINS, clean ups and electrical rewiring. Aside

from doing the tasks assigned for them, they’re also bringing school supplies for
the children, clean up materials for the school, painting materials and big garbage
cans. The BJMP group were providing free haircuts to our learners. We’re so
thankful of their generosity and constant support in the school.

May 23, 2020. The fourth day. This was a heavy day to all of us. We need to
continue the unfinished tasks of the previous days. We’re so blessed to have the
LGU on this day. They sent heavy equipment, bulldozer, grader and pizon for
school ground improvement. Big stones were lifted from the ground, a hole for our
garbage and flatting some area in the school. This will make the school safe for
the learners. I’m so blessed to have this kind of people in the locality. I call Mayor
Edgar Lignes and personally thank him in behalf of ECCS personnel, parents and
stakeholders.

May 24, 2020. A fruitful day of the week since we’re receiving 20 galloons of paint
from DPWH. They were also sending painters and laborers to do the painting task.
They were doing it for 3 days, so until May 26, 2020. Honda Philippines gave us
also 2 gallons of paints and painting material. Thanks and gratitude was also
extended also to Micro Finance PAG ASA for the clean-up materials, garbage cans
and doing some clean-up activities in the school’s mini forest. Parents of our
campers were so generous also in giving and donating different kinds of fruits for
the Dessert Festival of our learners during the Summer reading camp culmination
program. Mac Donald Philippines were also joining our learners. That was an
exciting and fun filled day. I am thanking Mac Donald for continuously supporting
our school by giving cash assistance and doing some painting and renovation of
ECCS SPED Centre, aside from giving joy and excitement to our learners. So
blessed to be their friend and school beneficiary.

The school also conducted a 2-day seminar workshop on Digitized Making of Big
Books through Adobe Print shop. This seminar is for teachers who needs to be
acquainted and trained in the modern way of making big books. The school invited
some experts from the Division of Iligan City. The seminar workshop was initiated
by our School Paper Coordinator. It was a very informative and important seminar
workshop for teachers.

May 25, 2020 UP TO October 2020. Brigada eskwela on this time of pandemic
is a year round activity, thus we did not commence all the Activities. Majority of us
teachers in MCS is still on the go and continue our brigade Eskwela. We still have
so many concerns to address. People from the different sectors were still here
doing different activities. Some were doing roof markings and landscaping
activities. There are parents who were fixing the temporary gate at the back. It
seems eternity!! ..BUT I’m happy seeing stakeholders and private individuals who
sustained their energy and support amidst the health crisis. Seeing their
perspiration inspire and motivate me to accept challenges and keep moving on.
We ended the day with hope and courage in making our work worthy and in
accordance with God’s will. We instill in our mind that; we need to challenge
ourselves always for growth and development.

3. BRIGADA ESKWELA PLUS

a. continuation of the work/s and activities not finished during the
actual brigade week

4. POST IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

a. Preparation of Final consolidated school BE accomplishments
report
b. Submission of report
c. Planning Activities for Brigada Eskwela Plus Continuation and
Planning Activities on the Incoming Brigada Eskwela 2020
(Success stories for the remaining 2 phases will be posted later..)

The success of Brigada Implementation relies on the HANDS ON planning of the

school head, BE coordinator and Activity Leaders. Pre implementation phase is
very important and I believe a non-negotiable phase for success. I am not a perfect
leader but I believe that doing the activity by heart , self-motivation and inspiration
leads to the success of the activity. I’m conditioning my mind always that: It’s not
for winning but for MCS ELSA learners. I am always hoping and praying that
DEPED SHOULD STOP IN CONSIDERING THE ACTIVITY AS A CONTEST, IT HONESTLY
DEFEATS THE PURPOSE AND SPIRIT OF VOLUNTEERISM.
