2nd Reflection

We are colonized by the Spaniards for 333 years and since then we have established our liberty
and identity. I understand that it already a part of us, and whatever we do, we can never be rid of the
Spanish identity and Spanish as a language. I just think otherwise about Spanish being a part of our
constitutional law for it to be preserved and studied, because Filipinos today are not even fluent in
Filipino, and with that I could not find any reason why we should add another language in our curricula.

I am pro-Filipino in all aspects, that is why I find it treacherous to preserve the Spanish language.
If we would go back to our history, specifically to our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, we’d remember how
he fought hard through pen and paper to let us have our nationality, identity, culture, and liberty that
our ancestors longed for over 300 years. Moreover, our ancestors fought bravely and tenaciously to give
us the freedom we have today, that is for us to know our real culture, identity, and nationality. If we
would preserve the Spanish language, then their efforts, sufferings, and deaths would be in vain; the
reason why they risked their lives, it is for us to be rid of the oppressions that they experienced in the
hands of the Spaniards. I understand that I am currently taking Spanish in AB and I’m also studying in a
Spain-affiliated university, and I am fine with that. I know the reasons why we must accept it as it,
because I am in a private institution, therefore I should abide by the curriculum in my chosen program,
but to make it a nationwide subject is unnecessary. I stand by my opinion that studying Spanish should
remain optional.

Somos colonizados por los españoles durante 333 años y desde entonces hemos establecido
nuestra libertad e identidad. Entiendo que ya es parte de nosotros, y hagamos lo que hagamos, nunca
podremos librarnos de la identidad española y del español como lengua. De lo contrario, pienso que el
español forma parte de nuestra ley constitucional para que sea preservado y estudiado, porque los
filipinos de hoy ni siquiera hablan con fluidez de filipino, y con eso no pude encontrar ninguna razón por
la que deberíamos añadir otro idioma en nuestros planes de estudio.

Soy pro-filipino en todos los aspectos, por eso me parece traicionero preservar la lengua
española. Si volviéramos a nuestra historia, específicamente a nuestro héroe nacional, el Dr. José Rizal,
recordaríamos cómo luchó duro a través de la pluma y el papel para dejarnos tener nuestra
nacionalidad, identidad, cultura y libertad que nuestros antepasados anhelaban durante más de 300
años. Además, nuestros antepasados lucharon con valentía y tenazidad para darnos la libertad que
tenemos hoy, es decir, para que conozcamos nuestra verdadera cultura, identidad y nacionalidad. Si
preservaramos la lengua española, entonces sus esfuerzos, sufrimientos y muertes serían en vano; la
razón por la que arriesgaron sus vidas, es para nosotros deshacernos de las opresiones que
experimentaron en las manos de los españoles.

Entiendo que actualmente estoy tomando español en AB y también estoy estudiando en una
universidad afiliada a España, y estoy bien con eso. Sé las razones por las que debemos aceptarlo,
porque estoy en una institución privada, por lo tanto debo acatar el currículo en mi programa elegido,
pero hacerlo una asignatura nacional es innecesario. Estoy de pie, según mi opinión, que estudiar
español debe seguir siendo opcional.
