Introduction
For small business owners and first time website creators there are two popular tools to
use, Weebly and Wix. This white paper shows the results of a usability test of both of
these tools in regards to ten specific tasks. These tasks are for those who have basic
computer skills who would use the website designing tools as a first time user. Each task
will define usability with a five component standard result.
Methodology
Equipment and Environment
The test of usability was conducted using Safari on a 2015Macbook Air with macOS
Catalina version 10.15.6 with an additional Samsung curve monitor connected to be able
to conduct the usability test and evaluation simultaneously.
The environment I will be using is my home office with little distractions as a first time
user would want to do the same to be able to focus.
Tasks
1. Select a theme/template
2. Choose colors for the theme
3. Choose font for the theme
4. Add logo to the website
5. Create a pop up
6. Add a picture
7. Add a page
8. Add social media
9. Preview the website

Metrics
Efficient: I was able to complete the task in 5 clicks or less

Error Tolerant: Few errors, and of those errors they were easy to correct

For Wix, selecting the color there were different ways to select colors. The one that I
chose to do was the page background. For this I clicked the page background button and
from there I selected color. Once selecting color it gave me a selection of colors to choose
from, as seen in Image 4

For Weebly, this task could not be done within the editor. I had to go to my account to
complete. Once in my account, I selected pop ups and from there I was given different
types of pop ups to add to the website as seen in Image 9.
For Wix, I had to click the (+) button and then go down to interactive. From there it
gave me different types of pop ups to choose from, as seen in Image 10.

Summary
Overall, Weebly scored higher than Wix. Both of the editors were fairly easy to use and
the process of creating the website was fairly quick. Both of the editors rank high in
everything, but Weebly scored just a little bit higher. Weebly’s editor tool was user
friendly, especially for first time users. As a first time user, either of these editor tools
would be good to use, but I would recommend Weebly as it is a little more user friendly
than Wix.
