Introduction
Video conferencing software has boomed since the Covid-19 pandemic has hit the world
and many people agree it’s here to stay. Many Companies and Schools have realized they can
now use video conferencing to hold meetings that prior to this pandemic would’ve been in
person. It’s more convenient and just as effective. My question is, is Zoom the best software for
this? It is by far the most popular in my experience but I’ve tried google meet and it seems to be
a very competent software as well. So I decided to compare them on 10 key abilities.

Methodology
Tasks
This test used ten distinct tasks to represent the typical needs of a user. They included:
1. Ease of access 5
2. Ease of joining 5
3. Security 5
4. Screen Sharing 5
5. Breakout rooms 5
6. Chat 5
7. Invitation to join methods 5
8. Scheduling 5
9. Background options 5
10. Cosmetic options
These tasks were chosen because they represent the primary tasks that an average user would
care about when using a video-conferencing software.
Environment
The usability test of Zoom and Google meet was completed on a 2018 Dell XPS 15 on the
University’s home wifi.
Metric
The five metrics used to judge each of the tasks are listed below.
1. It took fewer than 8 clicks
2. The tasks were completed in a timely manner.
3. The website/app user interface ease of use.
4. Errors did not affect the results and were easy to correct.
5. I felt satisfied after completing the task

Discussion
In total points Zoom won 227 points to Meet’s 181 points. Overall I would Personally
favor Google Meet more. I’m more involved in the Google ecosystem and it’s just a more
convenient product for me. Being able to join immediately from gmail is very valuable to me.
But if you're looking for more security, more functionality when it comes to breakout rooms, and
better implementation of augmented reality I would choose Zoom.
