PETE and KIN Curriculum

Becoming a physical educator was definitely a challenge and a learning experience. Both

Kinesiology and PETE curriculum taught me the importance of health and physical activity as

well as the impact that educators have on the students lives. Both curriculums helped me grow as

a person and an educator.

The Kinesiology curriculum helped me understand what it takes to live a healthy lifestyle

as well as learning the components of the body and the body anatomy in detail. Several of my

instructors motivated me to become a healthy human being and pushed me to participate in

events like marathons and community races which were very motivating and proven to be

beneficial for my health. I was able to learn to use different equipment and exercises that one day

I plan on sharing with my students for their own benefit and health. I believe that the

Kinesiology curriculum is what helped me understand what it is that I need to teach my future

students in order for them to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. The knowledge I learned in the

curriculum is something that I can use within my regular life and in my career.

When entering the PETE program, I was immediately caught by surprise at how serious

teaching students is taken. I never realized the amount of detail that is put into teaching, and how

important educators are in childrens’ lives. The PETE program taught me the impact that

physical educators have on students’ lives and how we are the ones who can help students live a

long, happy, and healthy life. PETE curriculum helped me expand my way of thinking and my

approach to reaching students, I learned the importance of getting to know the students and

demonstrating to them that you are there to help them and not against them. Both Coach

Cisneros and Coach Francis taught me what it takes to be a physical educator and the amount of
work that should be put into teaching students. The opportunities that we had teaching actual

classrooms and the observations we were required to do exposed us to real teaching situations

and gave us a feel of the environment for a physical educator. Student teaching has been an eye

opener for me, I noticed how students rely on us to be listeners and they see us as adults who

they can trust. Building a bond with the students will make it easier to communicate with them

and will improve your teaching.

Overall the PETE and Kinesiology curriculum gave me the knowledge required for me to

become a great physical educator. I was able to obtain a great amount of information from both

curriculums that I will forever use throughout my career. If I have any advice for the next

generation is to appreciate every opportunity you have to impact a student’s life and you will

quickly notice how much they appreciate you.
