I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
1. Identify hardware tools and equipment according to function and task
requirement.
2. Discuss the four hardware tools and its uses.
3. Label/Name the tools given with the sense of self-confidence.
4. Appreciate the value of computer hardware tools through paying attention to the
discussion.

III. PROCEDURE
A. Learning Activities

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

1. Opening prayer I am requesting Let us put ourselves in the holy presence

everybody to please stand for the of God. In the name of the Father, the
prayer. Will you please lead… (point Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen The Lord’s
one student to lead the prayer) prayer.

2. Greetings Good Morning Class!

Before we will start, kindly pick up all Good Morning Sir. (students will start
the trashes and throw it inside the picking up the pieces of paper and plastic)
trashcans/bins.

3. Energizer Everybody stand; let’s have (Students stood up)

an energizer to warm up your mind
and body.

4. Checking of Attendance Let us check Okay, sir.

your attendance first, say present if
your name is called.
B. Motivation

Activity

Before we will proceed to our formal 1, 2, 3, 4, 5……(up to the last)

discussion, I will give you an activity first.
This will be a group activity. I will be
dividing the class into 5 groups.

Okay, let’s start counting from the right

side. (students will find their group according to
the assigned number)
All number 1, grouped together (the same
manner goes with 2,3, 4, and 5)
Okay, sir.
I will give you several pictures and I want
you to identify what those pictures/images
are.

Teacher Students
Before we will tackle the different types of A tool is a handheld device that aids in
computer hardware tools. Let us define first accomplishing a task. Tools range from a
what is a Tool? (the teacher randomly calls traditional metal cutting part of a machine
students) to an element of a computer program that
activates and controls a particular function.
Very good. (The teacher will give his
explanations)

Safe Use of tools Once selected, use the

tool for the purpose for which it was
designed.
Not all tools come with detailed
instructions, but there are those that do
spell out the safety ―Do’s and Don’ts for
your safety. Hence, Environmental Safety
and Health Program requires the following:

• All tools should be kept in good condition

with regular maintenance
• The right tool should be used for the job
• Each tool should be examined before
using AND damaged or defective tools
should not be used.
• Tools be operated according to
manufacturer’s instructions
• The right protective equipment for the tool
and activity be used.

Computer hardware tools are classified

into four equipment:

• Electro-Static Discharge or ESD Tools

• Hand Tools
• Cleaning Tools
• Diagnostic Tools

Under electro-static Discharge are the

following tools:

• Anti-static wrist strap – used to prevent

ESD damage to computer equipment.
• Anti-static mat – used to stand on or
place hardware on to prevent static
electricity from building up. While in Hand
Tools, we have:
• Flat head screwdriver – used to loosen or
tighten slotted screws.
• Philips head screwdriver – used to loosen
or tighten crosshead screws.
• Torx screwdriver - used to loosen or
tighten screws that have a star-like
depression on the top, a feature that is
mainly found on laptop. • Hex driver –
sometimes called a nut driver, is used to
tighten nuts in the same way that a
screwdriver tightens screws.
• Needle-nose plier – used to hold small
parts.
• Wire cutter – used to strip and cut wires.
• Tweezers – used to manipulate small
parts.
• Part retriever – used to retrieve parts
from location that are too small for your
hand to fit.
• Flashlight – used to light up areas that
you cannot see well.

The third one is cleaning tool that consists

of four tools, such as:

• Lint-free cloth – used to clean different

computer components without scratching
or leaving debris.
• Compressed air – used to blow away
dust and debris from different computer
parts without touching the components.
• Cable ties – used to bundle cables neatly
inside and outside of a computer.
• Parts organizer – used to hold screw,
jumpers, fasteners and other small parts
and prevents them from getting mixed
together.

And lastly, we have Diagnostic Tools

namely:

• Multimeter – used to test the integrity of

circuits and the quality of electricity in
computer components.
• Loopback Adapter – used to test the
functionality of computer ports.

C. Analysis

Teacher Students

Do you find the activity difficult? (mixed answers)

What do you think those pictures are? How

do we call them?
They are tools, sir.
(the teacher will point someone to answer)
Very Good. All of those pictures that are Computer, Sir.
given to you are tools. But what specific
thing that these tools can be used or
designed to?

Very Good, thus, in other words, we will be

discussing all about Computer Hardware
Tools and Equipment.

D. Generalization
“Now, class, let’s remember that (students answer)
Computer hardware tools classified into
four equipment. Can you again tell me
that four equipments?”

“And let us also remember that not all

tools come with detailed instructions, but
there are those that do spell out the
safety ―Do’s and Don’ts for your safety.”

V. Evaluation

TRUE OR FALSE. Direction. Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE if it is
wrong. Write your answers on ½ crosswise.
_______ 1. Selecting the best tool for each task requires training in the proper use of
the tools, field experience in their safe use, and following the manufacturer’s guidance
and instructions for that specific tool. (T)
_______ 2. When obtaining the tool, all the associated tooling and consumable parts,
as recommended by the manufacturer, must be included. (T)
_______ 3. The safe use of a tool depends on using the tool for the purpose for which it
