• HARDNESS OF THE STELLITE DEPOSITION

• SEAT RING FINISH BEFORE WELDING
• SEAT RING DISTORSION REDUCTION
• BODY SEAT RING - LAPPING PROCESS
• DISC FINISH - GRINDING PROCESS
• 1500 psi WASHING SET UP
• TESTING PROCEDURE

CAUSE
• LOW HARDNESS OF SEALING SURFACES
CAUSES SCRATCHES LEADING TO LEAKAGE IN
TESTING & IN SERVICE.

REMEDIAL ACTION
• USE OF HIGH HARDNESS STELLITE POWDER TO
ACHIEVE 42-45Rc @ VENDOR END.
• STELLITE DEPOSIT THICKNESS TO BE 6mm &
AFTER M/C’ING 3mm.
• DRAWINGS CHANGED.

• SEAT RING SURFACE FINISH - FOR NON SRFL
BODIES

REMEDIAL ACTION
• SEAT RINGS ARE WELDED WITH TURNED
FINISH. GRINDING THE SEAT RINGS BEFORE
WELDING IMPROVES THE FINISH & FLATNESS
AT LAPPING.

• DISC SURFACE FINISH- FEED RATE IS VITAL
FOR THE FINISH GRINDING. NO PROVISION IN
THE MACHINE TO INDICATE THE FEED RATE.

REMEDIAL ACTION
• DIGITAL FEED INDICATOR HAS BEEN INSTALLED. =>
• WITH THE HELP OF DIGITAL FEED INDICATOR,
PROCESS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED TO ACHIEVE
THE SPECIFIED 0.2Ra FINISH.
• USE OF LAPPING PAPER 600,800 &1000
INTRODUCED.

• SHARP EDGES IN DISC CAUSING SCRATCHES.

REMEDIAL ACTION
• WHILE MACHINING, INTRODUCE RADIUS ON THE
LEADING & TRAILING EDGES OF DISCS.
• WHILE GRINDING, RADIUS BOTH THE EDGES
WHILE EMERY LAPPING.
• DRAWINGS REVISED TO INDICATE THE ABOVE.

• PROPORTIONAL INCREASE OF CLAMPING LOAD


W.R.T TESTING PRESSURE TO AVOID DISTORSION.
• PROVIDE RIBS TO STRENTHEN THE CASTINGS
• INCREASE THE THICKNESS OF THE SEAT RING
• USE OF NON-COMPRESSION METHOD OF TESTING.
