Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF / Doctors without Borders) is an

Job title: Speedboat Second Skipper
Job location: Maungdaw Project (Based in Rathidaung)
Accountable to: Speedboat First Skipper
Base Salary: 367,000 MMK
No of Position: 1
Duration: 1 year with possible extension

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


Support the Speedboat First Skipper in operation, maintenance and repairing of the stab craft. To ensure
safety protocol and procedures are respected by all passengers. Any reasonable duty for the good of the
program as requested by the Speedboat First Skipper. Being able to replace the Speedboat First Skipper if
the need arises.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
 Instruct by and together with Speedboat First Skipper carrying out of all necessary maintenance of hull,
engines as well as support and safety equipment.
 Follow instructions from Speedboat First Skipper to keep craft clean and tidy.
 Support in unplanned repair or any other unplanned activities directly related to the boat and/or its
passengers and/or cargo as required by the Speedboat First Skipper or by the circumstances.
 Maintain constructive relationships with Port Authorities and Jetty owners and related personnel.
Travel operations.
 Perform all duties as required either by general good seamanship practices and/or by those explicitly
required by MSF (i.e. local and/or institutional guidelines, and line manager on ad-hoc basis).
 During clinic hours and as far as approved by the Speedboat First Skipper, carry out any reasonable
request of the clinic team (e.g. physically assisting with loading and off-loading of cargo and patients).
 Assist in navigation and lookout when First Skipper is driving.
 Performing any other additional duties when requested by the supervisors

REQUIREMENTS

Experience Essential: experience as Speedboat Assistant or similar function for a minimum


of one year, on a similar type of boat as the one MSF will be using i.e. speedboat
with pow-erful twin outboards, carrying up to 10pp (crew + pax).
Essential: in case of national or local administrative requirements: in possession
of any required license or other document in order to be legally authorized to
carry out the duties described in this job profile.
Essential: able to swim (or willingness to learn so directly after confirmation of
employment).
Languages Basic working knowledge of English (understanding) and local language of
Rakhine state essential
Knowledge Basic knowledge about engine maintenance and repair.
