Let’s test your practical skills!


Practical Skills 1: Write your name on the space provided below. Under each
letter of your name, write its corresponding braille character using the Braille
System Alphabet as shown in the abstraction. If you don’t have slate and
stylus download application in the internet for braille writing just attach a
screenshot of your braille name.

Practical Skills 2:
Close your eyes tightly for few hours. Better still, cover them with an eye shade
or a piece of dark cloth so that you cannot see anything at all. Then, walk
around the house and look for familiar things that you see every day in the
bedroom, bathroom, living room and kitchen. Next, do the usual activities you
engage in every day such as cleaning the house, cooking, changing your
clothes and others.
Questions:
1. How well did you do the usual activities?
Although I am familiar of the places where I am going but it’s hard
for me to do the usual task without failing or having some difficulties by
doing a simple task like preparing the table and cleaning it. The hardest
part is that while eating you couldn’t get familiar the dishes unless
someone will do thought you of what is that certain dish that you are
going to touch.
2. How did you solve them?
In the corner of the house I have my patterns of where I am
certainly standing so it’s not hard for me to move to another places but
sometimes I stumble down because of unwanted objects in front. But
with task or chores in the house my sister is my great helper by doing
some activities, she will warn or orient me of some important points.
3. What did you feel about the whole experiences?
It’s a different level of experience, because I get to experience of
what are the feeling of having these kind of disability. Yes! It’s difficult
and doubt that it’s irritating sometimes when you get to failed something
that seems so easy to accomplish but because of some interventions it’s
really difficult to achieved things easily.

Practical Skills 3: Demonstrate the following orientation and mobility in


assisting learners with difficulty seeing below. If you don’t have canes just use
bamboo stick or any stick you can around you. Just make sure that the height
is at the level of your armpit. Attach a picture as an evidence or you can
submit a video of your performance.
1. Walking with the learner in a narrow space
2. Walking with the learner and taking turn to avoid road block
3. Passing through a door
4. Ascending and Descending in a Stair
