SOLIDWORKS PROJECT
ENGINE
I picked this project because I was inspired by an amazing animated model of an engine.
I didn’t know engines worked so I felt like it would be a good learning experience to design
The most difficult part about the project was putting the multiple pieces together. The
hardest part was getting the crankshaft into one piece. I learned how to duplicate parts and
orient them with the rotate tool. I did manage to learn some basic animation.
However, the most important skill was the ability to manipulate mates to the highest potential
I learned many technical things about solid works from this project, but more
importantly several things about CAD in general. The most important part about CAD is
planning ahead. It was easy to forget to plan and just get started, but I quickly found out that it
was hard to organize all my ideas. If I had just brainstormed first or had hand draw sketches, it
1.PISTON
1.Selecte front plan and create a section view of piston with the help of line and three-point arc
3.seclect front plane draw a circle and three-point are with the given dimension
4. Make a mid-plane extrude cut of 95.00mm to cut both the side of piston.
5.Selecte front plan and create two circles at the center point of hole with a diameter of 12.50mm
and 14.50mm
7.selecte front plane and make the Mirror of the last extrude boss.
2.PISTON PIN
2. Create a Mid plane extrusion to a depth of 49mm.also Appling thin feature of 2.50mm.
3.CONNECTING ROD
1.Selecte front plan and create a section view of connecting Rod with the help of line and spline
3.Again Create a Mid plane extrusion to a depth of 10.00mm. In selected contours select the
remaining region which is not extrude in the previous extrude boss. Here also check the merge
result option
6.selecte Right plane and make the Mirror of the last extrude cut.
4.CRACKSHAF
1.Selecte front plan and create two circles with diameter of 34.00mm and 38.00mm
4.Selecte face of current extrude and make the following dewing with help of three-point arc
6.Selecte face of current extrude and create circle with diameter of 32.00mm. make concentric
relation with the upper smaller arc
8.selecte face of last extrude and make the Mirror of the total body.
9.Selecte face of current extrude and create circle with diameter of 34.00mm. make concentric
relation with the Centre of the body.
11.Selecte face of current extrude and make the following dewing with help of convert entities of
second sketch
13.Selecte face of current extrude and create circle with diameter of 32.00mm. make concentric
relation with the upper smaller arc
15.Selecte face of current extrude and make the following dewing with help of convert entities of the
previous sketch
17.Selecte face of current extrude and create circle with diameter of 34.00mm. make concentric
relation with the Centre of the body.
19.selecte face of last extrude and make the Mirror of the total body.
5.UPPER BLOCK
1.Selecte top plane and create a top view of upper block with the help of rectangle and three-point arc
3.select the bottom face of upper block. With help of convert entities convert the edges of the
block into sketch and with help of offset entities make offset of 5.00mm also make the sketch
close with the help of line.
5.With the help of linear pattern make 15 number of the boss-extrude3 with distance between 7.0mm.
6.LOWER BLOCK
1.Selecte front plane and create the following sketch with help of circle and trim entities commands
3.Selecte front plane and create the following sketch with help of circle and line commands
7.select the face of lower block. With help of convert entities convert the edges of the block into
sketch and with help of offset entities make offset of 5.00mm also make the sketch close with the
help of line.
