ENGLISH COMPREHENSION
After reading the first two pages of the chapter you all might be excited to know
the rest of the story. So be ready as the story unfolds -
After jumping out of the matchbox the mother scorpion scuttled onto Larry’s
hands with the sting raised up and ready. Larry glanced down, saw her and let out
a roar of fright exciting the dog Roger who started barking wildly. With a wave of
his hand Larry sent the scorpion flying down the table. She landed right in the
7
middle of Margo and Leslie, the author’s sister and brother respectively. As she
landed, her babies scattered all around like confetti. Then started the chaos. The
enraged scorpion sped towards Leslie, her sting quivering wildly. Leslie leapt to
his feet overturning the chair and flicked his napkin at the scorpion sending it
rolling towards Margo. She screamed so loud that a railway engine could be put to
shame. Leslie then gave the idea of squashing the scorpion and her babies with a
book. Mother was completely bewildered by the sudden chaos and peered through
her glasses to see what the pandemonium was all about. Margo in the meanwhile
threw water on the scorpion but missed her target and drenched her mother who
could not stand the cold and was left gasping for breath. Larry in turn shouted at
the author accusing him of trying to harm the family. The little boy promised to
catch the scorpion and started gathering the baby scorpions from under various
pieces of cutlery and returning them on to their mother’s back. The angry and
frightened family of the author retired to the living room while the little boy
carried the mother scorpion and her babies on a saucer and they were let loose on
the garden wall reluctantly. To give the family a break the boy and his dog spent
the afternoon on the hill side, but the repercussions of the incident were many.
Larry developed a phobia of match boxes but the worst was when mother decided
to get a tutor for the author so that he could not spent time exploring the animal
world.
