Q#1: Explain Earth-quake force & Wind pressure and the rational formulae for calculation of these
forces on steel structures. (05 marks)

Q#3: Design number of Structural bolts required to hold three plate sections of 12” x 0.5” each. The

dead load at the connection is 20 kips & live load is 110. All members are made of A36 steel. Use A325

structural bolts of 0.5” diameter having fv=50 ksi and fu=120 ksi with threads excluded from shear plane

arranged with three lines of bolts. (10 marks)

Q#4: Design Fillet welded connection using E65X electrodes to connect three plate sections (W=20in &

t=0.75”) for transmitting dead load of 10k & live load of 140k.Consider minimum weld thickness

(S=5/8”) with “A36” member steel (fy=36 ksi & fu=58 ksi).
