Passive Voice

A. Pengertian.
Passive voice adalah lawan dari kalimat active voice yang merupakan kalimat yang subjek
kalimatnya menjadi objek penderita dari kata kerjanya. Pengertian yang paling mudahnya,
kalimat pasif adalah kalimat yang jika kita terjemahkan dalam bahasa Indonesia
mengandung makna “di” atau “ter”.

Contoh sederhananya adalah: my car was stolen (mobilku dicuri).

Mobil menjadi objek penderita dari kata kerja curi. Jika dilihat sepintas, maka kata my car
berkedudukan sebagai subjek, akan tetapi dilihat dari segi maknanya dia berkedudukan
sebagai objek. Seperti dipukul/terpukul. Passive voice biasanya dipelajari setelah kita
memahami ke 16 bentuk tenses. Caranya tidak jauh beda dengan tenses karena pada
dasarnya basisnya adalah tenses.

B. Rumus Passive Voice

Rumus utama dari Passive Voice adalah:

To Be + V3

To be = (is, am,are, was, were)

Contoh :

1. Active voice : Somebody cleans the room every day.

Passive voice : The room is cleaned by somebody every day.

2. Active voice : The students are using computers now.

Passive voice : The computers are being used by the students now.

3. Active voice : Sam has taken an English course.

Passive voice :  An English course has been taken by Sam.

Passive voice : The car was fixed by my father yesterday.

5. Active voice : The students were using computers.

Passive voice : The computers were being used by the students.

6. Active voice : They had cleaned the floor.

Passive voice : The floor had been cleaned by them.

7. Active voice : Rudolph will fix the computers.

Passive voice : The computers will be fixed by Rudolph.

8. Active voice : They will have visited to the hospital.

Passive voice : The hospital will have been visited by them

9. Active voice : Lucy and Tina are going to buy novels.

Passive voice : The novels are going to be bought by them.
