What’s In
Activity 1. Image of meaning!

Direction: Presenting to you are 2 sets of images. Observe carefully these sets of
images and answer the questions below. Write your answer in your activity
notebook.

1.
ICE CUBES HOW TO REDUCE BODY HEAT
2

ACIDITY IMAGE PH SCALE

Guide Questions:

1. What information can you get from the first image? In the second image?
The first image talks about drinking cold water to reduce body heat while in the
second Image it talks about experiencing stomach acidity meaning that there is
change in the pH level in our body
2. What do you think is the relationship of these images?
pH of the standard buffers vary with temperature. pH decreases with increase
in temperature

3. What information can you get from this set of images? The image speak to deliver
about the importance of temperature and pH in enzymatic activity in our body

4. Is the second image important? Yes it is important, Our bodies live and die at a
cellular level and the cells must maintain alkalinity in order to function and stay alive.
Our body's pH balance, is the level of acids and bases in our blood at which
our body functions best. The human body is built to naturally maintain a healthy
balance of acidity and alkalinity.
5. What is the effect of the second image to the first image?
If the pH falls as temperature increases, this does not mean that water becomes
more acidic at higher temperatures. A solution is acidic if there is an excess of
hydrogen ions over hydroxide ions.

Activity 2. Connectivity

Direction. Answer the set of questions. Write your answer in your notebook.

1. What can you say about the picture? The picture talks about “Reducing body heat
by drinking cold water”
2. Is this activity important?
Yes, Drinking cool liquids, such as water or iced tea, can help reduce body temperature
by cooling the body internally. The regular intake of fluids can also prevent dehydration,
which can increase body heat.
1. What do you think the person is suffering from? STOMACH ACIDITY
2. Have you suffered from this illness? YES
3. How does this factor affects your daily activities? Stomach acidity has an impact on
the daily lives of affected individuals, interfering with physical activity, impairing social
functioning and reducing productivity at work

What I Can Do
Activity 7: Say something! Write a reflective journal!

Directions: In 5 to 10 sentences, discuss the importance of optimal conditions for an

enzyme to function properly and efficiently.

If an enzyme is not in its optimal conditions, it doesn't work as well. If this occurs, then tissues

can be damaged if the enzyme affected can't break down the substrate fast enough. Enzymes

work best within specific temperature and pH ranges, and sub-optimal conditions can cause an

enzyme to lose its ability to bind to a substrate.

Temperature, Raising temperature generally speeds up a reaction, and lowering temperature

slows down a reaction. However, extreme high temperatures can cause an enzyme to lose its

shape (denature) and stop working. pH, Each enzyme has an optimum pH range. Changing the

pH outside of this range will slow enzyme activity. Extreme pH values can cause enzymes to

denature. Enzyme concentration, Increasing enzyme concentration will speed up the reaction,

as long as there is substrate available to bind to. Once all of the substrate is bound, the reaction

will no longer speed up, since there will be nothing for additional enzymes to bind to. Substrate

concentration, Increasing substrate concentration also increases the rate of reaction to a

certain point. Once all of the enzymes have bound, any substrate increase will have no effect on

the rate of reaction, as the available enzymes will be saturated and working at their maximum

rate.

Additional Activities
Video clip augmentation. Watch the video clip on factors affecting the enzyme activiy
on youtube or open the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Old2ODOpDc
and check your understanding.

Guide Questions:

1. What concepts discussed in the video clip? Concepts that has been discuss in the video
was the Factors Affecting Enzyme Activity which is the temperature, Ph, Substrate
concentration, and enzyme concentration

2.What are new concepts did you learned from the video clip? The concepts that I’ve
learned from the video was : Enzymes become increasing effective as temperature rises
until a plateau is reached slightly above body temperature, as temperature increases the
rate of reaction actually increases. When we are sick sometimes our temperature will go
above 37 degrees celcius and our rate reaction will increase and presumably and that
gonna help us fight the infections. The most the enzymes function ideally at pH 7 where
enzymes won’t be denatured and we do have enzymes that operates in ph 2 within out
stomach it begins the initial breakdown of the proteins that we eat acid in our stomach
use to digest food and to kill bacteria which have enzymes of their own that don’t
function well. When we have high substrate concentration all the active sites are
occupied by substrate and the enzyme cannot catalyzed the reaction any faster. The
more the enzyme produce the more the substrate produce.
