VI -15 -DROP ON DEMAND PROCESS OF SOLIDSCAPE

a - Principle
This process uses the principle of the ink jet printer. The material is a thermoplastic or wax sprayed
drop by drop through calibrated nozzles. The nozzle heads move in the XY plane, the Z-axis is used to
generate the layers.
The material is heated to a high temperature to be expelled through a calibrated nozzle.
A second device produces the supports.

patent
There are three steps in the manufacture of a layer:
- The two heads deposit the molten material
- a cooling phase freezes the materials
- a milling cutter shaves the layer to calibrate it.
The process is precise at the cost of a certain slowness.

b - Developments
Solidscape has developed a material jet control technology to smooth the outer layers of the parts:
Smooth Curvature Printing process.

c - Applications
The main applications of this process are the casting of precision parts with a size of less than 250
mm, with an accuracy of more than 0.05 mm. Investment casting requires detailed parts with the
smoothest possible surface finishes.
The process is also used in the medical sector, in the production cycle of bone and dental prostheses.
