Background Information for Learners
A noun is a word used to name a person, animal, place thing or idea. There are kinds of nouns
and one of these is the count noun.
Count Nouns are nouns which can be counted. Books, dresses, and blankets are all examples of
count nouns. You can count the number of books in your bookshelves or your dress in your closet and
the blanket in your bed. Count nouns have also plural forms.

Exercise 1. Read the sentences below. Underline the count noun/s used in each sentence.

In the Market Place
Mother and I went to the market to buy some goods. Mother will cook Tinolang Manok
so she decided to buy chicken meat, onion, ginger, garlic and vegetables. My sister loves to eat
fruits, so we bought banana, avocado and mango. We also bought corn for our soup. If there will
be coins left, I will request Mother to buy me my favorite chocolate.
Going to market is such a wonderful experience, and so I will ask mother to let me
accompany her again next market day.
