Activity 2

Animal and Plant Tissues

Introduction:
Cells that group together to perform a single function are known as tissues. Within the
body of an organism, tissues are closely related to either the development of an organ or the
structure usually damaged by diseases. Animal tissues are classified into four types (a) the
epithelia, which are considered as the organ linings; (b) the connective tissue, which is mainly
responsible for linking the tissues to one another; (c) the muscles, which are responsible for the
movement of an organism; and (d) the nervous tissue, which is related to signal transduction and
memory. On the other hand, plant tissues can be classified into three types (a) the dermal tissue,
which are the body linings; (b) the ground tissue, which are usually related to the metabolic
processes; and (c) the vascular tissue which are the material transporters.

Materials:
● None

Methods:
1. Observe the microscopic images.
2. Try to identify which specific type of tissue can be seen.
3. Locate the tissue in the image by placing a circle in the area.
4. Give a short description for the tissue being focused.
5. For the plant specimen, identify and locate all the tissue present. For the animal tissue,
you only need to correctly identify and locate at least 1 tissue type.
