4 Material selection

Only materials tested and approved by Miele may be used.

With coloured materials, original bulk coloured materials must always be used.

With small quantities or special colours, following discussions with the departments
GTG/PH(WSTG) or BI/EW(LA/GK), a colour concentrate (batch) with the same polymer basis may
be used.

5 Mill material

5.1 Requirements for the use of mill material

Fundamentally, only so much mill material may be used such that the property profile of the
material and the function of the component are not adversely affected.

The declared proportion of mill material must be reliably maintained and must not be exceeded.

Initial samples are to be prepared in accordance with Miele's requirements with regard to the
maximum planned proportion of mill material for series production.

Only mill material from clean castings, dead volumes or parts that have not been thermally
damaged may be used. The use of bought-in material and material from other parts is not
permitted.

If no explicit requirement has been made by Miele, then, in accordance with UL 746D, the
maximum proportion of mill material is to be 25% or less as otherwise listing will no longer be valid.

Deviations are given in drawings:

Example:

Proportion of mill 11
material %

Mill material from hygroscopic mouldings must be used immediately or must be dried before reuse.

Material that due to machine down times or faults has been exposed or rested for too long and has
thus been thermally damaged may not be used.

Layering or inhomogeneities between new and mill materials must be prevented.

Production-related modifications must be agreed with Miele before initial samples are prepared.

6 Material details

Material details in drawings, orders and deliveries must be identical:

 Plastic designation in accordance with DIN ISO 11469

 Type designation from plastic manufacturer

7 Colour details

Only colours approved by Miele in accordance with MWN 2015 may be used.

8 Surface gloss

The degree of gloss for components in the directly visible area is to be measured at an angle of 20°
using a reflectometer in accordance with DIN 67530: The value ≥70 is to be maintained.

9 Dimensional tolerance details

Tolerances in accordance with DIN 16901 - Plastic mouldings, DIN 16941 - Extruded parts and DIN
ISO 2768 - General tolerances, are to be maintained.
If tolerances cannot be maintained, consultation must be carried out between the supplier and the
Product Engineering Dept.

10 Drawing details

Each plastic part drawing must contain the following details in full:

Material details in accordance with MWN 2014 Part 3.

Material no. or specification sheet Material no.

No details may be copied from old drawings unless they have been checked beforehand.
All edges, corners and inner corners are to be marked with a radius, see information label. For
visible parts or surfaces, the Design Dept. stipulates the radii.

Strengthening ribs, which must not cause any sinking on visible surfaces, are connected via
sharp edges (consultation with Product Engineering Dept. necessary).
If the avoidance of sinking does not need to be considered, then when for functional reasons a
sharp inner corner is required, a minimum radius of 0.3 mm is to be ensured.
All workpiece edges must be clearly marked and dimensions must be shown in accordance with
DIN ISO 13715.

1. Functional radii dimensions must always be given even if they are as standard.
2. All radii that vary from the standard must be given.
3. Dimensions of sharp edges must be clearly given (it is essential to discuss the degree of
sharpness with the toolmaker so that unrealistic requirements are not made).
4. If a dimension is not given, R = 1 applies to all workpiece inner edges.
5. If a dimension is not given, R = 2 applies to all workpiece outer edges.
The given rules are not a substitute for discussions with the toolmaker.
The date of manufacture is to be marked in accordance with MWN 2020.

Stamp or text with CAD drawings for the Material no. (Mat. no. = Material no. may only be omitted
if agreed by the Product Engineering Dept.):

Identification of base polymer in accordance with MWN 2014 Part 3

- Lettering size in accordance with DIN 1450.

- For clear differentiation, each material and colour should be marked with only one Material
number.
- On individual visible parts the name "Miele" is not required.
An electrical safety check is to be carried out in accordance with MWN 2014 Part 4.
On every drawing for a plastic part, the following information regarding electrical safety checks
must be included: Stamp or text with CAD drawings:

- Requirements are to be clarified with the electrical safety departments.

- The stamp can be modified for special requirements (e.g.: Complete component).

11 Initial samples and moulding trials of alternative and/or new materials

With the moulding trials, a sufficient number of components are to be prepared in order to confirm
process reliability. With new, unknown materials, the appropriate application technician from the
granulate manufacturer is to be contacted in order to ensure optimal processing.

12 Stress crack development

The material must be processed or subsequently treated to ensure components have low internal
stress. If this is not possible during processing, the subsequent treatment, e.g. tempering, must be
carried out to reduce stress crack sensitivity. This is to ensure that components in Miele finished
goods do not fail due to stress crack corrosion.

13 Material complaints

With material complaints, material suitability checks can be carried out by the Rubbers/Plastics
Laboratory at Bielefeld (BI/EW (LA/GK)). In this case, a test order must be submitted.

14 Procedure for approval of polymer materials

14.1 Plastics test in accordance with MWN 2014:

possibilities exist. Otherwise via GTG/PH (WSTG) or after agreement with a test order submitted
