FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES BEGIN NEXT WEEK

The first day of Guam Department of Education (GDOE) face-to-face classes will take place on
Tuesday, January 19, 2021. Due to the weekly face-to-face schedule, only three schools will begin
face-to-face classes on January 19, to include Vicente Benavente Middle School, F.B. Leon
Guerrero Middle School, and Simon Sanchez High School. All other schools will begin
face-to-face classes on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

“We are excited to welcome our students back to school,” GDOE Superintendent Jon Fernandez
said. “We have been preparing for many months in collaboration with the Governor’s Office,
Public Health, and the Physicians Advisory Group to ensure that this transition back to face-to-face
classes is as smooth and safe as possible. I want to thank all of our parents, faculty and staff for
their continued hard work and support as we adjust to this new normal.”

Schedules
All schools, with the exception of Vicente Benavente Middle School, F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle
School, and Simon Sanchez High School, will follow the schedule below:

Vicente Benavente Middle School, F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School, and Simon Sanchez High
School are the only schools that will use three face-to-face cohorts. Due to the higher number of
face-to-face cohorts, these schools will follow the different schedule below:

Parents/guardians should contact each school directly for hard copy distribution times.
Parents/guardians should also contact schools directly with any questions regarding face-to-face
registration and schedules.

Safety
Parents are reminded to screen their children for any symptoms of COVID-19 before sending their
children to school. If children are sick, and especially if students have any symptoms of
COVID-19, they should not be sent to school. Students are also reminded to comply with all safety
protocols, to include wearing face coverings, temperature checks upon arrival, physical distancing,
frequent cleaning of common areas and surfaces, and frequent washing of hands.
