Overview
This service manual supplement is for 9900 systems that have a reference monitor installed on the
C-Arm. The reference monitor replicates the Workstation left monitor image. Follow the instructions
in this document when installing, performing planned maintenance, or servicing 9900 systems with
the reference monitor.

Planned Maintenance
1. Connect the interconnect cable from the workstation and start up the system.
2. Verify that the system starts up with no errors, and that the reference monitor turns on and
displays the same image as the left monitor displays.
3. Verify that the control panel console keys, X-ray button, up-down buttons, and control panel
display function properly.
4. Verify that the reference monitor swivels left to right and pivots up and down smoothly.
5. Swivel can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the set screw located at the lower rear of
the curved arm.

6. Tilt can be adjusted by loosening or tightening the two (2) socket head cap screws located at
the upper rear of the curved arm. If the tilt screws are adjusted, both screws should be
adjusted the same amount.
Service Instructions
C-Arm Covers
1. Raise the vertical column 4 to 8 inches to make it easier to remove the C-Arm covers.
2. Power down the system.
3. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
Note: Remove the appropriate covers per the procedures in the following sections.

3. Remove Cross Arm brake handle.
4. Remove the four (4) 10-32 head cap screws and #10 flat washers at the base of the
reference monitor assembly.
5. Remove the two screws from the underside of the Control Panel cover.
6. Lift the control panel cover and reference monitor assembly from the control panel
chassis.
7. Disconnect the three (3) control panel cover internal cables from the three (3) switches.
8. Slide the entire reference monitor cover assembly into the mounting grooves on the left
side of the control panel chassis.

12. Remove the right Control Panel (when viewing from the rear of the C Arm).
13. Remove the Phillips 10-32 pan head screw and star washer from the control panel
chassis at the lower right corner that secures the ground wire.
14. Remove the four (4) 4-40 X ¼ flat head screws from the cover plate on the underside of
the control panel cover and remove the cover plate.

16. Remove the Control Panel cover and Reference Monitor assembly from the system.
17. Remove the four (4) 10-14 torx pan head screws from the underside of the Control Panel
cover and remove Reference Monitor assembly from the control panel cover.
18. Route the monitor cables through the top cut out of the control panel cover.

19. Make sure the reference monitor is oriented such that it can be fully rotated when facing
the X-ray switch, and then attach the reference monitor assembly to the control panel
housing using the four (4) 10-14 pan head screws removed earlier.

20. Ensure that the monitor cable, ground wire and X-ray switch wires are routed within the
monitor mount channels and that there is sufficient length at both ends such that the
wires do not bind or become pinched when the cover plate is installed.
21. Secure the monitor cable, ground wire and X-ray switch wires to the underside of the
control panel cover using the cover plate and the four (4) 4-40 X ¼ flat head screws as
shown below.

22. Install the coiled cord strain relief to the slot on the cover and secure to the two (2) cable
anchors using tie wraps.

23. Slide the entire reference monitor cover assembly into the mounting grooves on the left
side of the control panel chassis.
CAUTION: Be very careful to secure the cover in the grooves so the assembly does not fall during
installation and get damaged.
24. Connect the ground wire from the reference monitor assembly to the control panel
chassis at the lower right corner with the Phillips 10-32 pan head screw and star washer.

25. Reinstall the right control panel with the four (4) screws previously removed.
26. Reconnect the three (3) control panel cover internal cables to the three (3) switches.

27. Lower the reference monitor assembly onto the control panel chassis. Carefully dress all
cables inside the cover to avoid crimping, cutting, or short circuit.
CAUTION: The cables inside the cover are a tight fit. Dress them carefully.
28. Secure the reference monitor assembly to the inside cover mounting bracket with four (4)
10-32 head cap screws and #10 flat washers. Tighten the screws ½ turn past snug.
29. Reinstall the two screws to the underside of the Control Panel cover.
30. Reinstall the cross arm brake handle.
31. Install the coil cord strain relief to the front cover.

32. Route the RJ45 end of the coil cord through the mainframe circuit area down to the
balun in the base.

4. Remove the power supply retention clip.

Note: The power supply is mounted with double sided tape. Clean any tape residue from the base
wall after removing.

2. Slide the metal retainer clip over the power supply about halfway up the body of the
power supply. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.
3. Mount the power supply flush with the inside left wall of the C-Arm base (as viewed from
the rear of the mainframe) with the clip over the outside of the base wall. Press the power
supply firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the wall.

Balun Removal
1. Power down the system.

2. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
3. Remove the front top cover and front leg cover of the C-Arm.
4. Remove the balun retention clip.
5. Disconnect the black and white wires from the balun.
Note: The balun is mounted with double sided tape. Clean any tape residue from the base wall after
removing.
Balun Install
1. Remove the release liner from the double-sided tape on the new balun.
2. Slide the balun retainer clip over the balun. Do not let the clip stick to the tape.
3. With the BNC connector towards the front of the C-Arm, mount the balun to the inside
right wall of the C-Arm base (as viewed from the rear of the mainframe) with the clip over
the outside of the base wall. Press firmly to bond the adhesive tape to the wall.

4. Reconnect the black & white wires to the balun in the same receptacles from which they
were removed.
5. Reconnect the RJ45
6. Reconnect the BNC connector.
7. Proceed to the test section of this document.
Set-up
1. Power down the system.
2. Unplug the system and disconnect the interconnect cable.
3. Remove the front top cover, right side cover, rear cover, and front leg cover.

4. Remove the cable tie from P1 LEMO wires to gain access to the P1 socket.

5. Use a LEMO pin extractor to remove the two pins 23 and 21 (center and just above
center) from the interconnect receptacle.
6. Disconnect the other end of the LEMO Adapter cable BNC connector from the balun BNC
connector.

Installation
1. Obtain the new LEMO adapter cable and insert the white lead LEMO pin into P1 pin 21
and ground (white/black stripe) lead to P1 pin 23.
2. Install a tie wrap that was removed earlier to the P1 LEMO wires, including the new LEMO
adaptor cable.
3. Route the BNC connector end of the LEMO adaptor cable down through the side hole in
the chassis, taking care to keep the cable away from the high voltage lines, and down
behind the round bar into the base space.

Test
WARNING C-Arm covers are removed. Dangerous voltages are present when the covers are
removed. Take appropriate safety precautions.
1. With the covers still off, reconnect the interconnect cable from the workstation and start
up the system.

2. Verify that the system starts up with no errors, and that the reference monitor turns on

Finish
1. Properly shut down the system and unplug it.
2. Re-install all covers.
