A) My personal reason to think about this venture arises from a personal problem of privacy. The two
way float glass that I use on my window ensures privacy in the day time due to higher light intensity
outside compared to the lower light intensity inside. It reverses and fails to maintain the same privacy at
night due to higher light intensity inside compared to lower light intensity outside. This causes lack of
privacy at night which ironically is needed more at night. I want to solve this problem for me and other
businesses and consumers -- who use two way mirrors as well.
B) I personally can contribute to this venture by being a quality assurance manager who will be able to
comprehend the schematics of the engineers and the work process of the labor hired. Due to being an ex
student of pure science I will be able to comprehend the process ranging from Design of product to
execution of production. This particular aspect gives me the opportunity to fuse my existing and growing
business knowledge to my pre-existing knowledge of physics.
C) Justification: Let's say that the product needs a circuit design and implementation of circuit on the
surface of a glass. The engineers will draw up a schematic which will contain all the components of
circuit design. They will create & fixate the circuit upon the glass by the usage of a transparent adhesive
film.
Due to possessing the base level knowledge of electric circuits, each and every component will be
identifiable to me. Therefore as the quality assurance manager, I may check for circuit defects, ensure
efficiency in resource usage, ensure maintenance of delicacy during circuit placement, prevent resource
waste. Also, I can directly contribute to the design viability test, and the development methods of the
product itself.
Market Gap: A gap in the market that is arising from unmet customer demand for particular
goods or services which inturn has arised from a problem unsolved.
The above two survey questions try to identify the demand for the reflective glass market, this will in turn
help to estimate the demand for Tech glass, how? Reflective glasses do not function at night, individuals
who feel the lack of privacy due to having such big windows may actually turn towards Reflective
glasses, and then towards Tech Glasses to enjoy the same privacy at night as experienced at day.
Question is, the apartment portrayed in the first picture is a luxury apartment and such apartments are
mostly found around the Gulshan region. Built under luxury apartment builders like Shanta Holdings Ltd.
Concord, Rancon Apartments etc.. this justifies that our initial primary customers will be individuals with
luxury apartments, which further implies that the market scope is narrow in the beginning, and the market
segment is Niche. Small market segments can be expected from middle class apartments which have a
typical Thai glass system.
7
Above are the two outcomes which show positive results for the first two mentioned survey questions,
these outcomes support the assumption held and mentioned previously. These positive outcomes justify
the identification of the Market gap generated from the Floating glass industry due to dysfunctionality of
reflective floating glasses at night.
8
Even though Reflective glasses do not function at night the way it functions in the daytime, people may
not find it bothersome, due to living on a highrise or simply due to personal level of self consciousness.
The above survey question was designed to look out for such issues, the picture seen above is a scenario
of what reflective glasses look like at night.
The outcome further justifies that people are indeed bothered by the dysfunctionality of reflective glasses
at night, which calls for a definite solution. Meaning, our assumption that there is a market gap in the
Floating glass industry under the segment of Reflective floating glass is viable, and reassured. There
indeed is a problem which is generating a demand for a particular solution.
9
Previous market gap for a solution is now being justified by a survey question which directly states the
problem itself and judges the outcome of an assumed solution. On a grade of five, scales of 4 and 5 have
been selected the most depicting strong belief that functionality of reflective glasses at night will indeed
cater to the unmet need rising from the unsolved problem.
This further means that the market which was expected to be niche and limited to luxury apartments
actually can be expanded to a degree which can be considered an approaching mass market, How?
Massive five star hotel buildings have been using such reflective glasses and installment of Tech glasses
will ensure privacy at night, although the question is, do the customers demand for extra privacy given
their short stay? Are the hotel owners going to opt for extra cost from installment of tech glasses, how
will they adjust the cost in their revenue scheme? Such questions are answered by the proceeding survey
questions.
10
Now that a market gap is identified and the Tech glass is assumed to be commercially viable, the
assumption can be judged upon the following survey questions and results portrayed above and below.
The survey question which deals with the need for increased privacy of hotel rooms at night seems to
have mixed opinions. The proportion of people strongly agreeing to strongly disagreeing matches up,
while the proportion of people agreeing seems to overcome the proportion of people with neutral and
negative opinions. This implies that the expected demand for tech glass in the hotel industry is not strong
enough for us to be optimistic about rapid market growth in the short run. In fact, we may need to stick to
our niche market strategy and expect new luxury hotels and apartments to consider our product.
Interestingly the positive response for tech glass automatically rises when a proposition of “glass
replacing curtains” is made. This particular circumstance takes us back to reconsidering the middle class
houses as our potential market, why? Because the luxurious apartments may already be using motorised
blinds and may switch to tech glass after a market is established, while on the other hand the middle class
houses may switch to tech glass for it being a brand new experience causing them to become the early
explorers of the product. Replacement of curtains may also reduce the washing cost of hotels in the long
11
run for curtain laundry, new hotels may not even need curtain holders, leave curtains. Ultimately it can
be concluded that the commercial viability of tech glass is not necessarily strong, although it is feasible
enough to persist through a phase in order to survive and profit in the long run due to technological
developments.
The last survey question expresses the quality of our data collection by depicting the attributes of our
participants, these attributes are relevant to the collection of data and a certain combination of the
attributes makes our participant much more reliable in case of their responses. As it can be observed that
38.8% of our participants directly use reflective floating glass whereas 28.6 percent has experienced the
problem arising from reflective floating glass -- this ensures that the data which we used to identify
market & justify commercial viability is trustworthy and reliable to some acceptable extent. Lack of
enough Business entities has caused our data collection to have a commercial sector data limitation, as in,
it is hard for us to assert the need for Tech glass in offices and buildings used by business entities,
although market of our product for business entities like hotels are in a state of uncertainty as responses
are quite proportionate in case of positive and negative opinions from the participants.
Conclusion: Tech Glass is a commercially viable product for a niche market in the starting phase,
although advancing technology and modernisation of windows will expand the market for tech glass
on the long run in Bangladesh.
Political: The current political trend followed in Bangladesh is “Neopatrialistic” (Ahmed, 2020),
meaning that politicians use state resources to maintain client relationships in the general
population. This has caused politics to become path dependent which led Business to play a
major role in policy making instead of politics itself (Ahmed, 2020). Although this weakens the
political infrastructure, but at the same time strengthens the Business structure of the country.
This strongly benefits the uprising entrepreneurs who are aspired enough to execute their
innovative startups in this coronavirus affected economy.
(Socio) - Economical: The economy of Bangladesh has taken a strong unexpected hit from
Covid19, IMF in a “country focus report on Bangladesh“ pointed to remittance fall, RMG sector
export decrease and domestic economic activities drop (Jamal, 2020). The socio-economic class
difference increased due to mass unemployment leading to increased poverty; under such
circumstances “creating employment” is the major call of the hour (Jamal, 2020). Small startups
can utilise such opportunities to create jobs for laborers who are excess in supply but have
required expertise. Due to being higher in supply they are cheaper to hire allowing the startups to
utilise the most of what they have as funding for investment.
Legal: Alongside cheap labor and favorable policies there exists legal obligations when it comes
to opening a company in Bangladesh. An entity should register under the Company Act 1994
under the supervision of Registrar of Joint Stock Company and Firms (Rahman, 2014). The
registration is quite cheap although the tax rate is not quite the same, the expected budget for
fiscal year 2020-21 proposes a tax on revenue fall, from 35% to 32.5% for non listed companies
(Ahsan, 2020). The fall is intended to aid businesses after being affected by Covid19, despite the
decrease it is not significant enough to be considered advantageous to startups.
Despite such balance Covid19 has caused an existing Floating Glass Industry to close down
temporarily. “State run Usmania Glass” was closed by its management in 2020 March 29 due to
“CoronaVirus issues” (“Four listed cos’”, 2020). Unsurprisingly, Usmania was actually having a
bad time prior to Covid19, it was incurring heavy loss from 2016-2019 due to increased gas
consumption & outdated technology (Hasan, 2020). Its parent Institution Bangladesh Chemical
Industries Corporation assured of a new plant promising efficiency in production (Hasan, 2020).
The question is why would Usmania incur loss in the time when the floating Glass industry was
at full swing?
Before 2005 the floating glass was “imported in small scale” , PHP glass entered the floating
glass market in 2005, and after PHP, The Nasir Group entered the market (Rahman, 2015). Nasir
group holding 70% and PHP holding the rest of market share, have been monopolising the glass
industry by creating high barriers of entry to local importers (Rahman & Ahsan 2015,16).
Usmania Glass being a company aging from 1959 failed to keep up with the advancement in the
already monopolised market, this might be a contributing factor to future shut down of the long
existing state run company.
Foreseeably, there has not been any new entrant to the floating glass industry in the last three
years. Existing industries have been expanding while introducing new products continuously.
Some of their products “include dark blue, green, lake blue, bronze, reflective glass in sheet, clear
float glass, tempered and laminated safety glass, and mirror glass” (Ahsan, 2016). The expansion
capacity increment has not been any less than amusingly vast -- Nasir group set up an additional
“manufacturing unit for nearly Tk 1,200 crore, while PHP Float Glass planned to double its
production capacity to 300 tonnes per day” (Rahman, 2015).
Global Smart Glass Industry in a Nutshell: An industry that caters to energy and privacy
problems.
14
The main mechanisms in smart glass production: “Electrochromic, Gasochromic, Micro Blinds,
Nano Crystals, Thermochromic, liquid crystal and Electrophoretic or Suspended-Particle
Devices, Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal”, and photochromic (Beatens & “Growing presence”
2010,19). The smart glass industry is mostly capitalising three of the mechanisms mentioned
above -- “Electrochromic” , “SPD” and “PDLC”. Despite the Covid19 setback, the “Smart Glass
Market is estimated at US$ 4. 2 Billion in the year 2020, it is forecasted to reach a size of
US$10 Billion by 2027. In the race of Smart Glass Market the front runners are USA with a
market share of 28.5 percent and China with a market share of 45.2 percent, rest of the market is
shared by Canada, Japan, Europe, Australia, Germany, South Korea etc. (“Global smart Glass”,
2020).
Apart from indirectly catering to the need for privacy “ the key proposition of smart glass and
windows is it’s” efficiency in power management (“Growing presence”, 2019). It is aimed to
reduce the rising cost incurring from “Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning. Increased “use
of smart glass” is prevalent among industries such as “automotive, aircraft, construction, and
marine”, this “has further augmented the demand in this market”(“ Growing presence”, 2019).
Despite such popularity and demand the sale for smart glass has not been proportionately high
due to its high price, and status of still being under development. Popular finished products with
price and company from smart glass Industry are as follows:
From the above given chart it can be observed that the price per square feet of smart glass is
$100 compared to TK65 to max TK120 per square feet of clear float glass in Bangladesh.Aside
from a price that is not worth paying for a window in Bangladesh, the durability of smart glass is
a matter of question, due to being relatively new it has additional drawbacks, such as, lack of
rapidity when switching from full tint to clear (Woodford, 2020).
15
3. Plan of generating a new market and establishing my new product in the new market:
Market generation: Bangladesh glass industry produces reflective glass which malfunctions at
night, consumers of reflective glasses could switch to Electrochromic “smart glass”, but even if
they are from the upper class society of the city, they will still not consider switching to Smart
Glass, why? Clear float glass carries a rate of 130.1% import tax duty (NBRB, 2020). The
Smart Glass costing 100 dollar per square feet with a duty of 130.1 percent on the price paid for
the product will put out an amount which would be unreasonable for a citizen to pay. Estimated
calculation for one typical thai window:
Length = 4ft 6.5 inch = 4.5 ft (All prices mentioned above with source)
Width = 4ft 11.5 inch = 4.96 ft
Area = 4.5x4.96 = 22.32 square feet.
Smart glass = $100 per square foot
Cost without fitting, shipping and tax = $2232/ thai “smart glass”window = BDT 187,488 min.
Such cost discrepancy makes switching impossible, and causes consumers to adapt instead of
solve the long existing dysfunctionality of reflective glass at night. According to our primary data
analysis there exists a market which expects a solution to this particular problem. Despite being
niche the market is broad enough to generate a considerable amount of profit to incentivise our
effort to solve the problem.
By the use of Tech glass we decide to reduce the existing problem to a minimum if not solve and
eradicate the problem to the fullest extent.
Market Proposition & Product: We propose to fasten transparent intensity sensitive led light
sheet against the existing reflective floating glass of the customer. LED circuits with light
dependent resistors will be wired against the front of the glass pane to put out a light intensity that
adjusts to the light being emitted outside. This will cancel out the light being emitted out, causing
the reflective glass to function the same way as it functioned in the daytime. Higher the
efficiency of light cancellation, higher the functionality of the reflective floating glass sheet.
It is the only product that resolves the reflective glass malfunction problem, customers who
already use reflective glasses and can not switch to smart glass, but want to get rid of the privacy
problem, will resort to our product for a temporary fix. Although in future they may switch to
Smart Glass or a better solution for reflective glass’ problem solution, by that time we will not
stay put and instead ensure advanced products with better quality and minimal price.
Customer Analysis:
(All customers are assumed to be using “reflective glasses” clear glass or tinted glass users
do not apply)
Desire to switch to
“Smart glass” over Low Medium High
Reflective glass.
Probability of using
our product to
temporarily suffice
the need arising Low Medium High
from inability to
switch to “smart
glass”.
Ideal Customer: Based on the chart above it can already be seen that Bungalow house owners
are our ideal customers, although the primary data that we collected consisted of “Economic to
Moderate and luxury” apartment owners/occupants. Also on the bright side, due the data
collector himself being an occupant of Bungalow, he strongly shares the preferences of other
Bungalow occupants. Therefore, based upon observation, experience and justification we can
assert:
Our ideal customer is “The Bungalow owners” & our second ideal customer is “The Medium and
Large apartment owners”.
Data description:
The participants were selectively selected. The participants are mostly medium to large sized
apartment occupants/owners.
Customer Base:
Profit scheme:
The growth rate depends on our ability to switch to smaller components in circuit production, and
our ability to provide more efficiency in the system being implemented. Higher the efficiency
higher the demand, higher the demand, higher the profit, and higher the profit -- higher the
reserve to allocate to design development.
The smart glass is expected to grow by 6 Billion US Dollar in 2027, (refer to Smart Glass
Industry analysis). The industry will reach that peak due to technological advancement which
would be occurring due to compactness in component size and advancement in mechanisms used.
As mentioned in our growth strategy -- we expect to grow with the flow of tech advancement by
implementing the better methods of using a mechanism, to include and embody technological
equipment on float glass in a cost effective way.
5) Business Model:
The core of the business stands upon Research and Development, which will exist to improve the main
three factors of its resource bundle, “Rare” “Inimitable” and “Valuable”.
Employee line up will include one lead designer with a masters degree in EEE, followed by EEE students,
who will in turn be followed by Electric technicians from diploma college. The Research base will be set
up by the team mentioned above.
No physical product will be made before sale, rather components from suppliers will be carried to
customers house for construction of product on spot. Fitting charge and product sale will be our source of
revenue. The production and implementation will occur in presence of a Diploma technician, the work
will be carried out by general Electricians.
Customer service relationship management will be ensured by phone and live chat system. Sales will
occur at Research cum office or at the online platform. Customers will be shown the outcome of our
solution before their purchase.
Our ultimate goal is to sell a design worth patenting for monopoly, also we decide to conduct research for
publication in Journals.
3) Strong
expertise in the
field of “Smart
Glass”
4) R&D base.

A. Product
Tech Glasses is the product of our business, our product is new and innovative to the Bangladesh
market , where we give the ultra tech glasses which works both day and night and give full privacy
to our consumer.
The country is developing everyday, we are using glass to look fancy in our house, office and hotels.
In this decade we can see many buildings are designing with glass interior so we will do best in our
job for our product , even though in the famous building like “ Burj Khalifa have no privacy
transparency glass”. So this is our great opportunity as a new in Bangladesh
We will use sensor infra sheet between the glasses and filling with light that is unique in Bangladesh
and thus the light at night cannot be seen from the out side.
B. Service(s)
Our consumer’s comfort is our service and policy. We will ensure the quality of our tech glass
model. We will maintain the ethical response from our customer and consumer. Glass is fragile and
risk of breaking into pieces so we will put much effort in this procedure and we will provide some
glass architecture specialist for the plan , how to evaluate the overall model and providing of tech
glass.
We would also service by repairing the glass and sell patent in future after getting response and
understand the market.
Tech glass would be the size of firm and the capital employee, labour would be vary from the
beginning of the tech glass journey.
We will take officers/managerial employee punctual , skilled , sincere and responsible because this
will create an impact on the service.
Where as we will take careful , generous and skilled workers as labour for our product as well as
service.
We will take skillful and effective employee of R and D , Marketer, Manager who will run this
operation smooth and efficient.
Our tech glass product is standardized, complex, and durable so the size of the firm is moderate.
25
In the economical view of point we glass industry has a huge response in Bangladesh so we
hopefully say that we can grab customers for our tech glass. We will expand our business as per
consumer and customer response.
Skilled labour of glass industry is available in our country and we can absorb the market we will
successfully maintain our core policies.
We will survey and research about the market 2 months interval to read the parameter and
compare the results so thus it will tell us about the extend and the size of the market and business as
well.
To keep the items separated and organized use a Desk drawer organizer
Paper & Stationery Supplies:
Filing Supplies:
Many things like the sample and glass model equipment like light sensor, drill and many more
thing will also required and this will vary as long as the model of the building will appear.
For making the tech glass workplace productive and efficient we need to maintain and manage this
items by purchasing new or old it depends. May be we will start for small but the size of our firm
may expand day by day so we eill measure the items at the beginning of our start up.
27
For officers and employee will get desk and official items to use and tech glass specialist will get
high end desktop computer and software to use and make model smoothly and efficiently of our
clients.
What is the mission of the new venture?
Mission of the new venture of tech glass would be why should we have privacy only at day , we
should have at night as well.
New line in glass technology is our main motive of the business and firm.
People getting modern day by day so does the glass.
We will be success because we are innovative as well as there is a high demand for glass interior in
new buildings nowadays and this will be continue. So in term of survey we can say there also a high
demand of tech glasses.
It is a critical work due to fragile and skill issue so development work will vary to complete with
time. There is no boundary of time to complete but we will give a potential time to complete.
Our product is tech glasses that will give privacy both day and night.
This is innovative in Bangladesh so far but not by globally. So we will patent our product by law
and authorized our innovation and as well as we will claim a trademark of our company brand
value and image by officially.
Business will located in Uttara because in Uttara their is a high chance to grab the customer
because many space left around Uttara for building a new apartment , Hotel.
Later may we locate new branch in Purbachal, Bashundhara.
⦁ Is your building new? Old? In need of renovations? (If renovation is needed, state
costs.)
28
No it is old building.
We will be in Uttara, because Uttara has many plot is for built and there are many under
construction building which will require Glass for interior. So we think this is the best place for
running this business.
12. What experience do you have and/or will you need to successfully implement the business plan?
There will be a requirement for experience because without idea of glass and transparency this may
create an impact of our business. At least 1 or 2 years in the glass line would be highly preferable.
