Scientific Method :Bouncing balls
Question: Which ball will bounce the highest?

Your prediction:

Section 1 –Planning
1. What will be the independent variable? (What will you change?) Section 2 –Collecting results
THE TIPE OF BALL
2. Record your results in a table.
Average
Height 1 Height 2 Height 3
Ball height
What will be the dependent variable? (What will you measure?) (cm) (cm) (cm)
(cm)
THE HEIGTH OF THE BOUNCE
TENNIS 0,70m 0,73m 0,71m 0,71m

What are the control variables?

(What will you keep the same to make it a fair test?)
FOOTBALL 0,63m 0,65m 0,62m 0,63m
THE HEIGTH FROM THE BALLS ARE DROPPED
PING 0,60m 0,61m 0,64m 0,61m
PONG

2. Describe how you will carry out the experiment.

(Name the key equipment you will use and talk about how you will measure your results)

I WILL TAKE THE BALLS AND I WILLPUT THE IN THE SAME

ALTITUDE. THEN, I WILL THROW THEM AND A WILL MEASURE

THEIR BOUNCE.
3. Draw agraph of your results. Section 3- Conclusions
Remember to label your axes and include the correct units. 4a. Which ball bounced the highest?

THE TENNIS BALL

4b. Did any ball bounce higher than the height it was dropped from?

NO

4c. Data analysis. Using your results, can you compare the bounce
heights of the different balls?

TENNIS IS THE HEIGHER, FOOTBALL IS THE SECOND ONE

AND PING PONG Y THE THIRD.

4d. Scientific explanation. Why do some balls bounce higher than

others?

When all three balls are dropped from the same height, the

rubber ball will bounce the highest because it has the greatest

elasticity. When the rubber ball hits the ground it gets

compressed, or squished, and because it is very elastic, it quickly

returns to its original shape.
