DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSE
REMEMBER: DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES.
We can use relative clauses to join two English sentences, or to give more information
about something. A defining relative clause  tells which noun we are talking
about:Usamos una clausula relativa para unir 2 oraciones en ingles, o dar mas información
de algo o alguien.

EXAMPLE: The boy was playing. He is my brother.


DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSE: The boy who was playing is my brother.

Nota que en la respuesta el pronombre relativo que se requiere es who y que al unir las 2
oraciones debemos quitar o eliminar el pronombre HE de la segunda oración porque no se
necesita al formar una sola oración.

REVIEW ACTIVITIES

1. Join the sentences to make defining relative clauses. Make the necessary changes. En
este punto debes de unir las oraciones siguiendo las pautas de las clausulas relativas. Debes
Mirar los apuntes que tienes en el cuaderno de la guía pasada y debes tener cuidado al unir
las oraciones porque debes hacer cambios necesarios.

EXAMPLE: A man phoned. He didn’t say his name.


Answer: The man who phoned didn’t say his name.

3. I sent an email to my brother. My brother lives in Australia.
4. The customer liked the waitress. The waitress was very friendly.
5. We broke the computer. The computer belonged to my father.

7. She loves books. The books have happy endings.
8. They live in a city. The city is in the north of England.
9. The man is in the garden. The man is wearing a blue jumper.
10. The girl works in a bank. The girl is from India.
11. My sister has three children. My sister lives in Australia.
12. The waiter was rude. The waiter was wearing a blue shirt.
13. The money is in the kitchen. The money belongs to John.
14. The table got broken. The table was my grandmother’s.
15. Peter made a lemon cake. It is his speciality.
16. They sent me a postcard of the hotel. They stayed there on holiday.
17. This is my best friend. I met her at school ten years ago.
18. I want you to introduce you to Mrs Black. Her husband is an engineer.

2. Fill in the blanks with: who, whom, which, whose, where or when.

En este ejercicio debes llenar los espacios en blanco con los pronombres relativos que
están de color azul. Debes escoger el pronombre relativo correcto y que sea apropiado
para la oración.

EXAMPLE: I met a woman _____ can speak six languages.


ANSWER: I met a woman who can speak six languages
