Foreign Policy: -

Foreign policy is the reflection of domestic politics and interaction with


other states and it indicates principles and differences of a country
want to maintain relation with another country. It is necessary for
every country to formulate a sound foreign policy. Keeping in mind is
geographical politics and economics.

Principles of Foreign Policy of Pakistan: -


The principles of foreign policy were based on Islamic values and
traditions.
1) Security and freedom: -
The security and freedom must be preserved for the prosperity of
the country. Pakistan should be strong enough to resist for all
kind of internal and external danger. After independence
Pakistan has faced number of problems. Because of the hard
attitude of Indian leader, to make its defense strong, Pakistan
had to take military aid and economic aid from America and join
CENTO.
2) Brotherly Relation with Muslims Countries: -
Pakistan always tried to stablish close and friendly relation with
Muslim countries. Pakistan always came forward to help them for
the cause and safeguard the rights of Muslims, Pakistan is an
active member of OIC.
3) Regional Cooperation: -
Pakistan stablish peaceful and mutually beneficial relation with
neighboring countries. Pakistan is firmly committed with SAARC
and ECO. Pakistan is the largest contributor of SAARC after
India and provide 25% SAARC secretariat budget.
4) National Interest: -
i) Keeping away from superpower politics: -
Experiences shows that involvement in military conflict with
superpower is very harmful for developing countries.
ii) Peace: -
Pakistan is deeply conscience with International peace.
Atom bombs are threat to human civilization.
iii) World Economics: -
Pakistan beliefs that to overcome the economic crisis in
international economics relation particularly in trade and
international cooperation.
iv) Four Phases of Foreign policy of Pakistan: -
 Era of Neutrality 1947 to 1954
 Era of Alliance 1954 to 1962
 Era of Bilateralism 1962 to 1979
 Era of Non-Alignment 1979 to till now

Objectives of Foreign Policy of Pakistan: -

 Promotion of Pakistan as a dynamic, progressive, moderate, and


democratic Islamic country.

 Developing friendly relations with all countries of the world,


especially major powers and immediate neighbours.

 Safeguarding national security and geo-strategic interests,


including Kashmir.

 Consolidating our commercial and economic cooperation with
international community.
 Safeguarding the interests of Pakistani Diaspora abroad.
 Ensuring optimal utilization of national resources for regional and
international cooperation.
