SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT

In a world where it is has become customary for some people to compare and conclude,
through Statistics, Mathematics continues to prove that these people are doing it the wrong way.
It essentially means that it should not be the manner that some people effortlessly and carelessly
judge, decide, react or say things about things. These lessons tackling about how we could say at
the end whether or not there is a statistically significant difference between parameters imply that
it is not instantly done and actually undergo important steps.

Scanning through the module made me believe that I need so much patience and focus as
I decide to embark on it. It made me breathe deeply the moment I started reading. Its overview
somehow sparked my interest because I thought that having the right understanding of the
concepts will greatly be beneficial for me, not only in this course, but also in our Research
subject. Though there were terms that I have just encountered for the first time, which means that
those are going to be challenging for me, I prepared and convinced myself to continue reading
because there has to be no turning back. I was able to make more sense of the difference
between Parametric Statistical Measurements and Non-Parametric Statistical Measurements by
organizing the information in a table that made it easy for me to come upon the assumptions that
they hold. Moving on with the Decision Trees, I honestly did not fully understand all the
interconnections of the elements, so I just literally read them. Nevertheless, it introduced me
statistical concepts through terms that are surely worthy of learning profoundly. As a
mathematics major, I see and understand the great need for the mastery of these concepts
because I am certain that this will not be the last and only time that I am going to encounter or
even use them. As I proceeded to the Comparative Statistical Measurements, I have really
become grateful for being able to understand the objectives, the limitations and the methods as to
how the test is going to be undertaken. For each example, I carefully read the situation and go
through the description on each step as to what needs to be done. I tried to work on what is asked
in each step by myself, without looking at the actual answer yet. In that way, I was able to
compare my work to the real answer and sustain the thrill as I go through the module.
Sometimes, I only get to have the right given from the problem and, most of the time, give up in
having it on my own, so, I just rely on the module. For me, it was fun doing that and at the same
time, I am able to keep track of how things have become the way they were stated in the
respective steps. The examples really helped me grasp the lesson on Comparative Statistical
Measurements. I was guided on how to use the references on the critical values of the different
distributions, illustrated of how the values went through the calculations, and helped in
understanding when to reject the null hypothesis and come up with a decision and summary of
the result. Through this module, also, the concepts from Module 1 particularly about the one-
tailed and two-tailed test as well as the region of acceptance and of rejection have come nearer to
my comprehension and visualization.

The importance of the methods and thorough calculations in this course to come up with
decisions and conclusions shows that it is not ideal to just carelessly and instantly compare and
say things about people or other entities in life. We have to know the entire story and understand
why things became the what they have become. While these remain true in Comparative
Statistical Measurements, so as in life knowing what it takes to be significantly different.
