H. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Creative writing is an advanced writing course designed to empower students in developing
creativity while learning new skills in rhetoric and self- expression. The course further intends to
help students develop a taste for creative texts and an interest in the development and creation of
such texts which illustrates the various traits expected learning outcomes from BSE- English
graduates.

This subject aims to practical and creative skills in reading and writing; introduce students to
the fundamentals techniques of writing fiction, drama, and poems; and discuss the use of such
techniques by well-known authors in a variety of genres.

I. COURSE OBJECTIVE: 
Write quality texts as products of creative, critical and literary minds which aligned with the
basics, principles, qualities of creatively written outputs.

J. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES: 


On the completion of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

1. Differentiate technical writing from creative writing;


2. Determine the general terms and concepts relative to writing and creative writing
processes;
3. Create/compose his/her own creative texts;
4. Organize thoughts and information for writing;
5. Use literary elements to establish a situation, plot, point of view, setting, conflict and
character;
6. Write for reflection and self-expression;
7. Read, interpret and evaluate given written and oral responses to literary works;
8. Make connections to prior knowledge and experiences;
9. Develop literary and poetic devices, sound devices, sensory details and concrete
language; and
10. Develop drafts, analyze, revise and edit work as appropriate for audience and
purpose.
11. Write various poems, short stories, essays and screenplays both individually and in
groups.

K. LEARNERS’ PROFILE: 
Students enrolled in this course are education students (regular or irregular) who can
adapt to the remote learning mode as specified in this course. Delivery of instructions are

synchronous and asynchronous using digitized and non-digitized methods in the delivery of
learning materials.    

L. ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION DETAILS: 


Example: Both formative and summative tests will be administered remotely using the
following modes:
 
a. Google classroom and other applications in Google suite such as google forms, google
meet etc. may be used for required assessment/evaluation activities. Note that evaluation may
include demonstration thru video.
b. Aside from the traditional mode of assessing, authentic assessment in the form of
reflective essays, reaction and term papers, and movie analysis and/or video critiquing shall also
be employed. In terms of rating, a rubric for each task will be provided.

M. MODE OF DELIVERY:
Flexible learning using both face to face and remote learning modalities will be used as follows:
a. Google meet for lectures, orientations, meetings, group activities.
b. etc.

N. RULES:
Examples:
a. Synchronous meetings such as orientation, examinations etc. should be pre-scheduled (it should
be stated in the Course outline).  Invitation to attend the meeting must be provided a week before the
schedule.  Rescheduling shall not be allowed without the approval of the head and the dean.  
 Live lectures (thru google meet) should be set (for the whole semester) and be strictly
followed. Hence, the said lecture will be recorded for the benefit of those who are not
able to participate in the live lecture.  

b. Use of the messenger group to clarify lessons and instructions in the activities
including student interaction. This will allow exchange of information and practice
critical thinking among students. The professor shall set a particular schedule to
respond to all the queries posted in the group chat. Scheduled consultation meetings with
the professor are allowed through google meet. 

c. Monitoring of student activities (feedback) through a personal message, text, telephone


call or a chat.  Feedback should include returning students' activity weekly and discussing
work improvement to the students.

d. The use of textbooks to support the learning process are encouraged.  Students can
purchase the textbook in any available bookstore. Hence, a handout which will be sent
through email, the PowerPoint presentation will be made available for the students. 

e. Changes in the schedule are not allowed unless approved by the head and the dean. A
communication letter bearing valid reason must be accomplished for approval. 

O.  STUDENTS’ CONDUCT:

a. Students are expected to join the live lecture and participate in the discussion via chat
forum. Students are expected to standby 10 minutes before the schedule of each live
discussion.
b.  Mute your microphones while listening, unmute when the facilitator asks a question
or use the raise hand application or chatbox to ask questions.
c. Do not multi-tasks to focus and understand the lesson clearly.
d. Do not interfere either with your facilitator or any of your classmates to better understand
each other’s point of view.
e. Read all the lessons given prior to the scheduled synchronous discussion to ensure active
participation. TAKE DOWN NOTES.
f. Considering pre-requisite or lessons which should have been learned prior to the next
lessons, students are required to submit activities as scheduled through google classroom
(or any platform as appropriate). Be mindful of the instructions given for each task such
as deadlines, format including number of pages as required etc.  
g. Be polite in expressing your concepts or ideas in any chat box available.  Remember to
respect one’s idea.  Bear in mind that individuals are unique thus, diversity will surely
arise in many aspects. Before posting your queries, kindly browse and check previous
posts to avoid duplication.
h. Manage your time in consideration of the other modules to be accomplished from other
courses. AVOID PROCRASTINATION. Remember to sustain quality education.  You
are advised to read and understand the tasks given to you and settle with an output which
is of quality and high standard. 
i. You can post your questions and clarifications in the Chat box.  These will be attended by
the professor either during, as necessary, or after the lecture.  The participation of
everyone during the discussion is highly encouraged.

B. You may request a consultation meeting with the professor thru google meet (for group
work/activities as necessary).  It shall be set 1 week prior to schedule.
C. Any form of academic dishonesty, e.g. plagiarism and cheating shall not be tolerated. This will
be dealt accordingly based on the degree of the offense.
D. This course guide is intended only for students enrolled in this particular subject and
schedule.  You are prohibited to share and post videos and learning materials related in this
course to any platform. Violators will be dealt accordingly.
