CLASS ADVISER’S MODULE
DRY RUN
OBJECTIVE
This module is meant to guide class advisers (CA) on how to conduct the advisory program
orientation on the first day of the trial run on July 21, 2020. It contains a series of activities and
topics which the class adviser can do or discuss during the orientation.
Note: After the trial run, feedback from CAs can be incorporated into this module. The modified
module can then be used for the regular school year.
CONTENT
The following are topics and activities which the class adviser can do during the advisory
program orientation day. It is recommended that the CA prepares a PowerPoint presentation or
any similar media to aid him in discussing these to his students.
1. ATTENDANCE CHECK
CA can check the attendance using Google Meet Attendance or he can manually do this
since there are only around 15-17 students in class. If there are absentees, he reports
this to the CA and the staff assistant by writing the names in the shared attendance
google sheet.
2. KUMUSTAHAN/ICE BREAKER
It has been almost 5 months since the students were in a structured classroom setting. It
will be good to break the ice by first getting to know how each other has been and how
everyone has spent his summer and the quarantine period. A roll call in the google meet
will do. The CA can also use some tools like google slide or Jamboard or any similar tool
to elicit the responses from the students. An online game could also break the ice.
Several apps like Kahoot or Pear Deck could be used for these. (A list of online games
can be found in 6.a.ii)
Also, explain that their class size is half that of the previous school year and that their
other classmates are now in a separate section.
3. SCHEDULE FOR THE DRY RUN
The CA can then orient the students on the schedule for the next 8 days.
July 22 - Orientation on Google Classroom
July 23 - Orientation on Personal Formation
July 24 - July 30 Synchronous classes and Module days
1
4. SYNCHRONOUS CLASSES AND MODULES
After discussing the schedule for the dry run, the CA can segue into discussing the daily
schedule of his class.
Points to consider:
A. Emphasize that each week, students will attend 2 days of synchronous classes
and another 2 days will be spent for modules, on an alternating basis.
B. Wednesdays will be for
a. PE modules.
b. Student assemblies (once a month)
c. Mentoring chat
C. Advisory periods are 20 minutes for HS and 30 minutes long GS and will happen
twice a day. There will be one at the start of the day and another in the afternoon
to end the day. These periods will be used for various purposes and not just
limited to reminders and announcements.
D. Each subject period is 30/40 minutes long and will happen twice a week except
for some subjects like Music, Art, WE, and computer. In total, there are 14
synchronous classes in the JHS, 11 for STEM strand, and 10 for the ABM and
GA strands.
E. Each subject will have separate and individual classrooms. The subject teachers
should have already invited them to their respective subjects’ classrooms.
F. There is a 10-minute break in between classes. This can be used for a restroom
break or to rest their eyes or to take a breather. Remind students to enter the
classroom of their next class early.
G. Synchronous classes will be recorded.
H. Modules will be done on the day following the synchronous classes for HS and in
the afternoons for GS. The modules they need to work on a particular day are
already specified and the submission of these will be at 5 pm for HS and 9PM for
GS. In a week, there are 5 modules for the JHS and 8 for the SHS.
I. Consultation periods will happen on module days. The subject teacher will be the
one to tell them when his consultation periods are.
5. JOB ASSIGNMENTS
Even with the online setup, there are still job assignments that can be given to students.
a. Attendance checker takes note and reports to the subject teacher the absent
students at the end of the period.
b. Chatbox monitor informs the teacher if there are questions in the chat box.
c. Time keeper informs the teacher that there are only 5 minutes remaining for his
class.
d. Prayer leader leads the class in praying the different prayers of the day.
e. Tech support tells the teacher if the audio or the video is okay. He also assists
his classmates or his teacher who might have difficulty with the technical aspect
of online classes, e.g. sharing and accessing files, submitting academic work,
etc.. This could be assigned to one or two students.
2
f. President and the vice president take care of class meetings and bonding
activities. They also arrange for academic remediation among themselves or with
the subject teacher if necessary.
If there are not enough job assignments for everyone in the class, these job assignments
can be on a monthly basis. Meaning, after a month, these job assignments can be
reassigned to those who didn’t have in the previous month. It is also possible that some
students have job assignments for consecutive months.
6. PRAXES
CA should also discuss with the students the different praxes for the online classes.
These praxes summarize the appropriate and desirable conduct that is expected of
students.
A. Attire
a. Students should wear any collared shirt or the regular Southridge green
or blue polo shirt.
B. Grooming
a. Students should be cleanly shaven and should sport the prescribed
haircut. The hair should not
i. touch the back collar of the polo shirt
ii. the upper portion of the ear
iii. touch the eyebrows
b. If a student is not able to get a haircut because of quarantine restrictions,
he must fix his hair to look presentable at all times.
C. Place of Study
a. Students are highly encouraged to have a clean and orderly workspace
and background.
D. Don'ts
a. eating
b. sleeping
c. slouching
d. Using other devices other than the one used for online classes
7. NETIQUETTE
All students and teachers participating in online classes are expected to conduct their
communications in a professional, and respectful manner. The use of proper Internet
etiquette is expected at all times.
Here are some netiquettes which the CA can discuss with his advisory class.
a. Students must abide by rules, procedures, and policies established by the
subject teacher.
b. Students must be polite and courteous both in written and oral communications,
especially in Google Meet. Communications must be free of vulgarity, belittling,
3
offensive language, and any other forms of bullying. Always think before you type
or speak.
c. Students must respect the personal information and privacy of their teachers and
classmates.
d. Students must participate actively in all learning sessions.
e. Students must complete all assignments and work in a timely and thorough
manner.
f. Students must not commit any act of computer vandalism e.g. online hacking that
causes damage to the good name of the school, school property, and servers.
g. Students must not misrepresent an identity or assume the identity of another by
using login credentials other than those specifically assigned. This includes using
email or login information issued to another including family members.
h. Students must not share their login credentials with anyone else.
i. Students must not reproduce course content including assessments, emails,
digital captures, discussion or chat threads in any form and to any other server
without explicit written permission from the designated school authority.
j. Students must not write, use, send, download or display any information that is
critical of another student or teacher. Discussion forums and chat threads are
open to all students and teachers and are not appropriate media for private
correspondence.
k. Students must not engage in any of the following acts of academic misconduct:
i. Cheating. The act or attempted act of deception, in which a participant
falsely represents that he or she has learned information in an academic
exercise including unauthorized collaboration with others.
ii. Plagiarism. Representing the words, data or ideas of another as one’s
own in any academic exercise.
iii. Collusion. Intentionally or knowingly helping or attempting to help another
commit academic misconduct such as substituting for a test or completing
an assignment for someone else and collaborating with others while
taking online tests or similar summative evaluation.
iv. Leakage. The illegal distribution of an assessment prior to its
administration.
A student who is proven guilty of any form of academic misconduct will get a “zero”
in that assessment. Besides getting a zero in the assessment where the student
committed academic dishonesty, the following people will also be informed of the
student’s offense:
a. his class adviser
b. his mentor
c. the Administrative Officer
d. his parents
Likewise, these are the same set of people who are going to be informed if a
student violates any of the netiquettes above.
8. WHAT TO EXPECT DURING ADVISORY PERIODS
a. Class Bonding
i. The advisory periods will be avenues for students and teachers to interact
outside of academic periods.
4
ii. This could be in the form of simple ‘kumustahan’, much like the ice
breaker in #1, or the CA can initiate online games. Here is a link to a
variety of games that could be done online.
http://www.coqlibrary.ca/docs/default-source/pdfs/zoom-activities-for-child
ren.pdf?sfvrsn=0
iii. Birthdays could also be celebrated by e-ting together during breakfast or
lunch.
iv. All of these could be done to establish rapport among students and
between the teacher and students.
b. Guidance Videos
The guidance department will be preparing two 10-minute videos which
will be shown every second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. This is
to address the mental and emotional health of the students.
c. Commentary Reading
Similar to the physical setup, students will still be writing commentaries
and will read their output to their classmates every second advisory
period on Thursdays.
d. Flag Ceremonies
Videos of the National Anthem, Oath of SR Gentleman, and Panatang
Makabayan will all be pre-recorded so that on Mondays and Fridays the
CA can just play them. The students can stand up and sing or recite
along while these are being shown.
e. Devotion to St. Joseph and Mother Mary
i. We will still promote the practice of the norms of piety even if we are in
the online setup. These include the reciting of prayers like the Morning
Offering in the first advisory period, Angelus just right after the last period
before lunch, Memorare after the last advisory period/class.
ii. On Wednesday morning, the class will pray the Devotion to St. Joseph. A
PowerPoint presentation will be shown while praying this.
iii. On Friday after the last class or after the second advisory period, the
Salve Regina will be sung. Students can sing along to a pre-recorded
video.
Note that all videos and materials will be uploaded in your school unit’s Google
Classroom.
9. ADVISORY GOOGLE CLASSROOM
5
a. The CA will create and manage a Google Classroom for his advisory class. All
advisory periods will be conducted through the meet link that is automatically
generated in the classroom.
b. The classroom can be used to post announcements and reminders.
c. Class advisory headers will be uniform per school unit. The banner will be
released by the AO of the unit.
d. CA should set guidelines in the use of the google classroom.
10. ANNOUNCEMENTS AND REMINDERS
a. As usual, these periods will be used to communicate announcements to
students. These same announcements could also be posted in the advisory
google classroom. E.g. schedule of exams, academic policies, online activities,
etc.
b. CAs will also make use of these periods to remind students about the fulfillment
and submission of subject modules.
11. ADVISORY CALENDAR FOR DRY RUN
