Many school leaders today are experiencing many challenges to ensure that their
schools are successful. The school leader/administrator is at the front-line for their
school’s progress on a daily basis and just to name a few items, school safety, appropriate
curriculum and accommodations for students, high quality instruction service to all
students and utilizing technology to enhance instruction and management tasks. ASEAN’s
strategic objective is to ensure the integration of education priorities into ASEAN’s
development agenda and to create a knowledge based society; to achieve universal
access to primary education; to promote early child care and development; and to
enhance awareness of ASEAN to youth through education and activities to build an ASEAN
identity based on friendship and cooperation’- these are just some of the recent
development in the world of education in the region which everyone should be aware of.

Because of the emphasis to ensure that all students are successful in schools
today, all school administrators/leaders are expected to be strong instructional leaders.
School leaders and administrators need to know what effective instruction look like before
and when a classroom visit takes place. Schools are being asked daily, if the school is
meeting the needs of all students. Therefore, the school leader and administrator must
be a participating member of knowing what determines effective instruction with the
recent developments and trends in the education system.
School leaders/administrators must be aware of how the demographics and
composition of communities may be changing and new and improved ways of delivering
instruction to students in the most effective manner and up-to-date techniques must be
a strong consideration. Otherwise, the direction of the vision and mission of the school
will not materialize at the same time will struggle to produce learners who are fitted
globally and at par with those learners internationally.

With the pace of change accelerating in the 21stcentury, a key requirement to

thrive is lifelong learning and the ability to acquire new skills quickly from and for the
school head. Moreover, it starts with a recognition amongst all educators that the world
is changing. School head need to design an education system that is forward-looking and
not backward-looking and this is a result of being updated in the recent developments in
the education system.

The principal is in a unique position to influence the implementation of these

guiding principles and to affect the overall quality of teacher professional development,
students’ achievement and academic performance and school operations. If in case, a
school head lacks information, understanding and management with the present
developments and current needs of the education system, there might be some loosing
point on the implementation of a quality and valuable learning process.

As I end my shared ideas, as future school administrators, let’s always keep

ourselves updated with the system we are into. These will matters the direction that our
institution will be going through and this will give also the opportunity for all stakeholders
to bring out the best in them to cope with the changing world especially the teaching and
learning development. School head plays a vital role in shaping the learning facilitators
as well as the learners who will become or future leaders.

Remember, leaders are made, they are not born. We are made by hard effort,
which is the price we must all pay to achieve our goal.
