Re: Request for contingency for power and internet interruptions during exams and
quizzes

Dear Ma’am:

We write with regard to the concerns raised to us by the 4 th year students of AUF School of Law in
relation to the conduct of online exams and quizzes.

Since the beginning of the school year, many students had experienced interruptions in the internet
connection or electricity prior to or during online classes. There are even some who had been
disconnected from their session in the middle of recitations. In this regard, most professors would
excuse those who are not able to attend the sessions, and allow those whose recitation was
interrupted to continue therewith. While certain contingencies have been set for recitations, the same
is not true for exams.

There are only two possible ways to connect to the internet during exams: WiFi and cellphone data.
It has been the practice of many students to rely on WiFi as their main connection, and have their
phones ready for data connection as back-up. However, it has been raised to us that some students
do not have very good connection or sometimes have no access at all to data connection in their
respective locations. This leaves them unable to reconnect altogether in case there is a power
interruption or a sudden disconnection with their WiFi. Given the current season and unpredictable
weather, interruptions are very likely to happen during the midterm week.

The 4th year students are one with the School of Law when it comes to the preservation of the
integrity of online exams. They opine however that the same be accomplished through reasonable
standards. More particularly, it is prayed that the exams be not automatically invalidated in the
event of interruptions. It would lessen the worries of the students and help them to just focus on the
exams if they know what recourse are available to them in cases of interruptions.

Respectfully, the AUF-SOL Student Council deems the foregoing concerns worthy of note because it
could affect not only the 4th year students but also the entire student body of the School of Law. In
view thereof, it is hereby humbly prayed that the AUF School of Law set a contingency in order for
the students to accomplish their exams and quizzes in the event of internet and power interruption.

Pray that you will merit this request with your prompt action

Best regards,

MARTON EMILE DESALES
