1. 7-poles lowpass Butterworth filter with cutoff frequency in 3dB and unitary gain.

the filter is of order 7 needs four stages in cascade, three of which will be of second order and one
stage of first order.

The design parameters for each filter stage are established from table A.1, and the order of each
stage is indicated in the following table

stage

the design procedure starts below

Stage 1

the first stage is a RC circuit composed of a single capacitor and resistors, which is connected to an
amplifier model LM741CH (attached data sheet).

The commercial values of resistors and capacitors are indicated in Table A.2 and Table A.3.

The circuit must comply with the 1000 Hz cut-off frequency, which is calculated with the
expression 1.1.

1
f c= 1.1
2 πRC
Then

1
RC = =159,15 x 10−6
2πfc

selecting the commercial values that best fit this condition was obtained:

R=R 1+ R 2=750 Ω+51 Ω

C=C 1=200 nf

Now

f c =993.48 Hz

the maximum gain of the system is calculated using the following expression

RG 1
Amax =1+
RG 2
the addition of an amplifier stage allows the gain of each block that makes up the filter to be
adjustable, however, when a unit gain is required, the resistor RG2 must be much higher than the
resistor RG1.

standard values of RG1=1kΩ and RG2=1MΩ are then selected. Then:

Amax =1,001 ≈ 1

Taking the Texas Instruments document on active filters as a reference, stage 1 is constructed as
follows:
