realistic and achievable goals to meet the
specified criteria.

understanding of what the performance
will look and feel like to meet the criteria.
1.3 The learner has evidenced accomplished
skills in taking part in the performance.
Grade Commentary
Merit The work is brief but the learner
has written with clarity and
evidenced a good understanding. It
feels very much like this learner
could achieve a distinction for this
task if they were to go into more
detail.
Pass Again, brief and clear. Except this
time, too brief to be described as
‘broad and detailed’ for the merit.
The feedback to this learner should
include developmental guidance on
going into greater detail as they
could be working at distinction
level and this feels like an
opportunity missed.
Distinction Although the audio distorts, it’s
clear that the learner gives an
accomplished performance and a
strong vocal delivery for this level.
There are areas for her to develop
(mostly relating to stage craft) but
for level 2 this is a comfortable,
distinction standard performance.
1.4 The learner has evidenced a broad and
detailed understanding of the degree of
success of the performance and strengths
and areas for development are clearly
defined.
Overall Grade
Merit This is potentially approaching
distinction standard as the learner
shows good insight for her
strengths and areas for
development (especially
considering the feedback she
quotes doesn’t offer much).
Again, although it’s clear and
insightful, it isn’t comprehensive as,
for example, the insights are
undeveloped and her assessment
of the overall success is brief.
This could be a distinction with a
little more effort and the feedback
should make this clear.
